Chapter 4: MHA : Chapter 4 : Cell Mates I
"Huh?"
The girl in front of him rolled her eyes, her gloved hand still outstretched as her left ear twitched slightly.
"You deaf or somethin'? I asked why you're in here. Must've been a hell of a fight ya' got into to get that black eye ya' got there." She told him, Peter felt like he wasn't all there at the moment.
"W-Wait, where is 'here'? Am I in jail right now?" He asked, that feeling of panic slowly starting to overtake his body once again.
"Yeah? Where else do you think you are? Is this a foreigner thing or you just stupid?" The girl informed him of where he was as if it were obvious. Seeing how her cellmate still needed a second to become fully aware of the world around him, Rumi plopped herself down next to him on the bed, waiting for him to answer.
Alright, Parker! Relax! You got arrested and now have this girl as your cellmate, you can deal with this! Just ask her about the specific things and you can figure out the rest later! Yeah, that should work.
"You okay, dude? You seem a bit freaked out there." She asked him, tapping her foot on the floor at a rapid pace, Peter guessed it was a rabbit thing or something.
"What? Ye-Yeah, I'm fine. Sorry about that, I'm still trying to wrap my head around this and all. What'd you ask earlier?"
"What're you in for? Some guy with the head of a cat just showed up and threw your unconscious ass in here a couple hours ago." She stretched, her bones popping as she yawned. Peter saw her foot was still tapping on the floor.
"Vigilantism, I tried to help a guy being held hostage but then All Might showed up and punched me in the face." Peter rubbed his sore face, didn't that guy know how to hold back on kids?
"You got punched by All Might?! That's sick! High five!" The girl shot up from the bed in excitement, an incredibly grin on her face.
Peter was… put off, to say the least. He had never talked to Tiger Bunny that much during fights, they just shared a waiting room from time to time. Apparently, she just crashed underground fight clubs and fought everyone there, the one Peter was at let her stay since she drew in a crowd.
From the small conversations they've had while waiting for matches, the girl seemed incredibly intense. Maybe that was an understatement? She always had this huge grin when fighting, a battle crazy look in her eyes at nearly all times. That was probably the type of personality a middle schooler who crashed fight clubs would have, huh?
Back to reality, Peter reluctantly gave the girl a High five. She pumped her fist in the air and sat back onto the bed.
"Oh, man! That's amazing! Ya' have to wear that black eye like a badge!" The laughter the girl gave off echoed across the room.
She was crazy, no way she wasn't crazy! Alright, relax! Just ask her about what's going on and figure out the rest later. Peter turned and met those red eyes, they seemed to shine in the setting sun's light, radiating a sense of dangerous excitement.
"I guess? Hey, you're in for underground fighting, right?" He asked her, running a hand through his messy hair. It always looked like he had just taken off his mask.
The white ears fell a small bit, those eyes adapting a look of slight confusion.
"How'd you know that? You a stalker?" A small smirk grew on her face, the tapping of her foot being the only sound in the cell for a couple of seconds before Peter answered.
"Oh, you probably don't remember me. Before this whole vigilante thing, I used to do fight clubs for cash. We met a couple times, you're tiger bunny, right?" He hoped he was right, it'd be so awkward if he wasn't.
The gears in the girl's head visibly turned for a second as she looked the boy over. Suddenly, her face lit up as she laughed slightly, shooting up from the bed with a hop once again.
"Hey! Now I remember! You were that one guy who never took off his mask! Spider-Boy, right? I always wanted to fight ya' but they never let me! Some people were wondering where ya went! It's weird to see we're the same age, though."
She wanted to fight him? It kind of made sense, he had heard she talked to the guys in charge of the whole thing so they would let her fight specific people.
Truth be told, the girl kind of scared him back then. I mean, she just showed up in a school uniform and a luchador mask! Who does that? And one time she dented the cage around the ring with a kick! He could do that, but he didn't want to be on the receiving end of that!
"Yeah, some… stuff happened that made me leave. How'd you get caught? That thing was pretty hidden, right?" The girl scoffed, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest.
"Some dude with a scarf showed up and busted the whole thing today, they found out the name of my school so here I am! Sucks, huh?" She told him, Peter only nodded.
Scarf dude showed up? He was pretty sure that guy was an underground hero, so it made sense. Small world, huh?
The pair sat in relative silence for a couple of minutes. Rumi seemed way more relaxed than he was, Peter was kind of jealous. He couldn't stop thinking of what might happen. He thought of what May would think, what would happen at school, and if he could continue to be a hero.
He messed up, didn't he?
Skipping hero school? Just using his quirk illegally? He could've just waited to get to UA, he'd get into the school no problem! And to think it all came crashing down cause he went help out Bakugo of all people, it was borderline ironic. His vigilante career coming to an end due to helping a guy he couldn't stand.
Dragging a hand through his face, he sighed. He looked over his outfit only to see it covered in soot and a couple of burns, the right sleeve was completely burnt off and his web-shooters were gone. The police probably confiscated them or something.
Peter couldn't even be mad at anyone but himself. He tried to do the right thing the wrong way, and he royally screwed up it. The only things that brought the boy comfort were the memories of all those people he helped.
"Damn, you gonna keep sulking there?"
Oh, right. He was in jail with a slightly crazy rabbit girl, why'd he even have to end up like this? Couldn't he have gotten an alone cell? That'd be nice.
"Sorry… It just sucks, you know? I wish I could've done things differently." He replied, hanging his head low, hands intertwined.
"You helped people, right?" She asked him, her red eyes looking right at him
"I mean, yeah? That was kind of the whole point." What was she getting at?
"Alright, fuck what anyone else thinks! You did what you did cause it was the right thing, right? If people's lives are better off cause of you, what does it matter? I would've done the same thing, the idea of kicking ass and helping people all in one is great." She chuckled, lightly punching him in the arm.
One second.
For one second during that small conversation, the girl seemed to give off a genuine smile. It lacked that crazy intensity or battle lust he had seen on her face every time they've met.
She looked nice.
"Yeah… Thanks, Usagiyama… I really needed that." He gave off a small laugh, somehow feeling better. It was weird how relaxed he had gotten now.
"Don't worry about it, man! Oh, and call me Rumi, you also never gave me your name!" She presented her gloved hand once again, trying to introduce themselves properly this time.
"Peter Parker." he shook her hand, it was incredibly small.
"Pffttt! Your name sounds fucking stupid!"
And there goes the moment.
It could've been nice.
But now it was gone.
She laughed and placed a gloved hand on his shoulder, wiping a tear from her eye.
"My bad! I didnt mean to laugh like that! But anyway, it's nice to meet ya' Parker." She told him, her laughter finally settling down.
"Call me Peter."
