Chapter 32: Training Pt. 3

"Since your class is so eager to fight I will give you a chance to do so," Aizawa spoke loudly to be heard above the rumbling.

In the middle of the training hall a large patch of the hexagonal floor fell away before a rising platform emerged revealing a massive hexagonal arena that looked straight out of a pro fighting league but instead of chain link walls a shimmering blue force field isolated the potential fighters.

Class 1-A stared at the scene in awe but Aizawa's next words stole their attention back, "But instead of fighting each other you will be fighting me, and there's no need to tell the class your quirk or its weakness. I'll tell everyone myself once you lose."

No one dared raise their voice in objection as Aizawa's piercing gaze roamed over the class looking for a victim. To no one's surprise they eventually settled on Bakugo who had already resigned to his fate, "Katsuki get in the ring."

The normally brash boy was now painfully quiet, but his hands still clenched into fists and a fierce rage burned in his eyes as he spun on his heel and made his way to the fighting arena.

"While I understand it may be enjoyable for some of you to see your classmate struggle, I suggest you focus on me. You will rarely see your opponent perform before you fight, even the slightest insight can make a difference when you clash."

With those final words Aizawa followed Bakugo the blue force field dissipating for a brief second allowing them to step into the arena. Begrudgingly Bakugo walked to the far side of the hexagon before turning around to face Aizawa with a tense look on his face.

As cool as ever Aizawa regarded Bakugo dismissively before speaking out loud, "Initiate duel protocols, two combatants, quirks allowed, win condition is first to land a clean hit or the other party forfeit."

The blue force field flashed as a monotone voice responded, "Duel parameters received, combats identified Aizawa Shota vs. Katsuki Bakugo, fight will begin once both combatants say ready."

"Ready," Aizawa immediately responded, his posture and attitude not changing the slightest, he clearly wasn't planning on taking the fight seriously.

Seeing his teacher's nonchalant attitude Bakugo's teeth ground together as his hands clenched and unclenched, "Ready."

"Both combatants are ready, fighting will begin in three…two…one…fight!"

When the countdown reached zero Bakugo's hands flashed out to either side of him as twin explosions from his palms sent him rocketing across the arena.

In an instant Bakugo was less than a foot away from Aizawa who still hadn't moved. With a savage grin Bakugo thrust his hands forward, his palms pointed point blank at Aizawa's chest, and roared with glee. The air between the two sparked as the beginning of the explosion blossomed to life unfolding with devastating potential. But in a flash of movement Aizawa crouched down low, practically flattening himself against the floor in an insane display of flexibility.

Bakugo blinked as his explosion ripped through empty air before he felt his world toppled to the side as his legs were swept out from under him. For a brief moment Bakugo was airborne nearly parallel with the floor, then something slammed into his stomach with enough force to drive all the remaining breath out of his lung and send him flying back through the air.

With a loud thud Bakugo slammed into the blue force field with a choked gasp before collapsing to the floor in the fetal position.

"This fight has concluded, winner Aizawa Shota."

The robotic announcer's voice echoed in the silence as everyone stared at the scene in shock. While everyone expected Bakugo to lose, they didn't expect it to be so quick nor so brutal.

Breaking out into a hacking coughing fit as he finally managed to draw a breath, Bakugo managed to work up onto his hands and knees.

Meanwhile Aizawa turned to face the stunned locked crowd, "Bakugo's quirk is called explosion, it allows him to ignite his sweat at will in order to produce powerful blasts. However overuse will cause his arms and shoulders to cramp and increase the time it takes for his sweat to combust."

Aizawa then turned to face Bakugo and for the first time something other than cold indifference spread across his face, "Your strategy was good, you assumed that I would use my quirk to cancel yours, if that was true going all out to end the fight as quickly as possible was the right move. The problem in your strategy was that you assumed I needed my quirk to beat you. Always have a backup plan and always assume your initial one will fail."

Bakugo could only nod as he struggled to his feet and limped out of the arena, his head bowed low so as not to meet anybody's gaze.

"Kenji Aotoma."

Kenji's heart pounded in his chest as he heard his name being called and he turned around to see Aizawa staring at him, "Enter the arena."

For a quick second Kenji couldn't help but wonder what he had done to incur his teacher's rather when his heart pounded again sending a tingling wave of electricity arcing through his body. He was about to be embarrassed in front of the entire class, Kenji had no illusions about how the fight would end.

But the instant Kenji accepted that reality Kenji found himself in the eye of the storm and a calm passed over him before it ignited with a burning desire, 'I wonder how long I can last.'

Walking up to the cage, Kenji waited for the force field to dissipate before stepping inside.

"Initiate duel protocols, two combatants, quirks allowed, win condition is first to land a clean hit or the other party forfeit." Aizawa spoke in the same leveled voice Kenji expected of the man, but his eyes never left Kenji.

"Duel parameters received, combats identified Aizawa Shota vs. Kenji Aotoma fight will begin once both combatants say ready."

"Ready."

"Ready."

"Both combatants are ready, fighting will begin in three…two…one…fight!"
