Chapter 20 - Woman, Thug, Invincible-Genre Male Lead
Chapter 020:Woman, Thug, Invincible-Genre Male Lead
Su Mingxuan and Xiaomeng sat at a table nearby. She rarely came out, and everything around her seemed new and curious. Her eyes kept darting everywhere.
Seeing her like this, Su Mingxuan didn’t bother to interrupt her, instead continuing his internal dialogue with the system. “System, can you directly lock onto the Fate Child’s identity?”
Not yet. Host, you haven’t had any significant interaction with her. You haven’t been drawn into the Fate Child’s storyline or conflicts, so the system cannot yet detect him. You could beat her up, or do what you did with Jiang Ting…
Su Mingxuan: “…”
What the hell? Beat up a woman?
Even though he’d been in this world for nearly twenty years, the system had only awakened shortly before he arrived in Tianhai City. When he first met Jiang Ting, there had been no signs of her being linked to a Fate Child. Only after a month of close relationship did the system lock onto Lin Feng.
Thinking about it now, it might have been because her connection to Lin Feng was too weak—or Lin Feng’s fate value was too low—or perhaps this new Fate Child’s luck was just too overwhelming.
Just as he considered this, the system pinged again.
Host, please be advised—this is not a developing Fate Child. He is a fully formed Fate Child, meaning his power in all aspects has reached its peak. He poses a real and direct threat. Host, proceed with caution.
Su Mingxuan: “!!”
A fully formed Fate Child? That means… this guy is like a protagonist from one of those invincible-type web novels? The kind that’s maxed out from the very beginning?
Damn.
Su Mingxuan knew well—this was a fusion world. Since there were development-type protagonists, it was only natural that invincible-type protagonists existed too. In their respective stories, they would stand at the absolute pinnacle of power.
But unfortunately for this guy… this was a fusion world.
Being invincible in your own story didn’t mean you’d be invincible here, because this world housed multiple Fate Children and many higher-level forces. One Fate Child might not be able to beat him—but what about two? Three?
Realizing this, Su Mingxuan didn’t feel fear. Instead, he grew even more excited. The stronger the Fate Child, the stronger he would become too. After all, your power becomes mine, and my power… is still mine.
“Thanks for waiting,” a soft voice said.
The woman from the food stall had returned, carrying a tray. On it were a large plate of braised meats and two bowls of white porridge. As she set them on the table, Su Mingxuan noticed how fair her hands were. Even running a night stall, her skin hadn’t roughened at all.
“Enjoy your meal,” she said with a smile in her voice.
Su Mingxuan nodded and handed a duck neck to Xiaomeng. She took it and bit in hungrily, looking like a full-on foodie.
“Slow down,” he said, helplessly.
In the Su family, etiquette was trained from a young age. But in front of him, Xiaomeng rarely followed the rules. No surprise—girls tended to drop their guard in front of someone they trusted.
“How is it? Tastes good?” he asked, smiling.
Xiaomeng glanced at him and huffed, “I’m still mad at you, Brother Mingxuan.”
Alright then…
Su Mingxuan picked up his porridge and took a sip. It had a light fragrance. They continued eating in silence for over ten minutes, the atmosphere oddly quiet.
Eventually, Xiaomeng leaned in slightly and whispered, “Brother Mingxuan… are you really getting married?”
Su Mingxuan: “???”
Well, that’s kind of how it works, isn’t it? What, stay single forever?
“What’s wrong?” he asked while wiping his mouth.
“I don’t want you to get married…” she said softly, looking at him with a trace of sadness. “If you get married, you won’t treat me the same. That woman is so pretty too, one of the Four Flowers of the Capital… you’ll think about her all the time.”
Su Mingxuan: “…”
Four Flowers of the Capital? When did that become a thing?
Back when he was still in the capital, he hadn’t heard of any such title. But then again, after graduating high school he went overseas and had been studying abroad for years. Plus, the Su family’s rules were strict—he didn’t socialize with those playboy rich kids, so he wasn’t plugged into their circles.
It made sense that he didn’t know.
He smiled at her and said, “Silly girl, even if I get married, you’ll always be my dear Xiaomeng. As long as you still call me Brother Mingxuan, I’ll treat you well forever.”
“Really?” Her eyes sparkled like stars.
“Of course.”
“Then… you can’t lie to me. I trust you more than anyone,” she said softly, eyes filled with watery light.
Just as Su Mingxuan was about to respond, a loud crash interrupted them.
Clang!
Smash!
“You damn hag, I told you no money, no stall! Can’t you hear me?” a loud voice barked nearby.
Su Mingxuan frowned and looked over. A few tattooed thugs had gathered in front of the woman’s stall. The man leading them was pointing a finger at her, expression fierce.
Tables had been flipped, dishes shattered on the ground.
“I’m sorry, Brother Sheng… I only run the stall for two hours each night, just two hours… please…” the woman pleaded in a trembling voice.
“Fuck off!”
With that, Brother Sheng smashed her stall with an iron bar. Glass shattered instantly. The braised meats fell to the ground, scattered and ruined.
The woman looked at the mess and began to cry, hopeless and desperate.
Su Mingxuan: “…”
What’s this now? Woman plus street thugs? Are we really doing the cliché hero-rescues-beauty scene right now? Is a Fate Child about to show up?
