Chapter 70: The Fairy Tail Library
Looking at the chaotic state of the guild hall, George sighed and flew up once again, using the Repair Charm to restore the hall. Afterward, he politely addressed everyone:
"Thank you all for your enthusiastic invitations. However, my current magical abilities are still quite limited, and I don't feel ready to join a team for missions just yet. I hope to stay in the guild for now to study magic and improve myself.
In the future, when the opportunity arises, I will definitely team up with everyone to complete missions together."
Going out on missions with the guild was out of the question for now. Even helping other mages with cleanup would have to wait until he had grown stronger in a few years.
For the time being, he could only help repair the frequently damaged guild hall.
After the recent commotion, George had clearly understood his importance to the guild, and his perspective on certain matters had shifted.
Originally, he had thought that in order to stay in the guild, he would need to go out frequently to help other mages with cleanup, using the Repair Charm multiple times for larger damages.
It would be exhausting, but as long as he could stay in the guild, he would have the opportunity to learn the most advanced magic in this world.
However, it now seemed that this wasn't necessary.
Given how much the Master valued him, George could afford to stay in the guild for a year or two, focusing on improving himself. Once he had mastered Apparition and significantly improved his Repair Charm, he could start helping out.
This would save him a lot of time that would otherwise be wasted on travel.
Sure enough, when he expressed his thoughts and looked at Makarov, the guild master nodded almost without hesitation.
"Since George doesn't want to join a team for now, you can all disperse. Go check the mission board and find tasks you can handle. Get out there and start working!"
For Makarov, he hadn't expected George to be of much use right away. What he valued was George's potential.
After all, if George struggled to repair the guild hall, it would likely take him ten days to half a month to fix the kind of destruction caused by Gray and Natsu.
Rather than that, it was better for George to focus on improving his magical abilities first. Once his skills were up to par, he could be more effective and efficient.
Realizing that their efforts were futile, the mages stopped bothering George and turned their attention to the mission board to find suitable tasks.
Mages took on missions not only to earn money but also to gain experience and improve their magical abilities through combat.
In this world, few mages preferred to quietly study and improve their skills through theory and research. Most enjoyed adventure, pushing themselves in battles, and unlocking their potential in desperate situations.
As a result, the mortality rate was also high.
George, however, didn't like taking risks. He preferred to steadily improve his strength in a safe environment.
"Levy, come here. You're heading to the library, right? Take George with you and take good care of our new member."
Makarov sat back down at the bar and called out to a blue-haired, petite female mage who was heading toward the basement entrance with two other mages.
The blue-haired mage quickly ran over.
"Understood, Master! I'll make sure to complete the task!"
"Levy is the most knowledgeable mage in our guild. She's read most of the magic books in the library. If you want to learn any magic, you can ask her for guidance."
Makarov looked at George with a kind expression.
George nodded and extended his paw to Levy.
"Hello, I'm George. I'll be in your care from now on."
"No trouble at all. Helping each other is what companions do. And the Master is exaggerating—he's actually the most knowledgeable mage in the guild."
Levy bent down and gently shook George's paw with two fingers, her eyes sparkling.
She wasn't particularly interested in George's Repair Magic, but she found the serious little cat incredibly adorable.
"Hahaha, George, feel free to ask me any questions about magic in the future."
Hearing Levy's praise, Makarov laughed heartily. The older he got, the more childlike he became. At 88 years old, Makarov still enjoyed being admired and complimented.
"I will definitely seek your guidance, Master."
George's eyes lit up, and for some reason, Makarov felt a drop of cold sweat form on his forehead.
Thus, George and Levy walked and chatted as they made their way to the basement library.
Levy was indeed highly knowledgeable. She effortlessly explained various magical concepts, and George listened with great interest, immediately asking questions whenever he didn't understand something.
Levy rarely encountered mages who were so passionate about magic, and she thoroughly enjoyed playing the role of a teacher.
The two quickly grew closer, with one teaching and the other learning.
Upon arriving at the basement library, Levy kindly helped George find the essential books for learning Giant Magic and Light Magic, knowing that he was interested in these two types of magic.
After spending most of the day together, George also learned more about Levy and her two companions.
Most mages in the guild, aside from the few exceptionally strong ones, formed teams to take on missions together.
Levy and her two companions were also a team, called the "Shadow Gear" team.
The two companions were named Jet and Droy. They were her fans, teammates, and suitors.
Jet's magic was called "God Speed," which greatly enhanced his running speed. He claimed to be the fastest mage in Fairy Tail, and his attack style involved running at high speeds to deliver powerful kicks.
Droy's magic was called "Plant," which allowed him to throw seeds with various abilities and grow them to attack enemies.
As for Levy, her magic was the unique "Solid Script" magic.
Solid Script magic involved solidifying written words and throwing them at opponents, with the words possessing corresponding abilities.
Levy gave George a small demonstration. She wrote the word "Silence" in the air, and instantly, all sound in the library disappeared. Everyone could be seen speaking, but no sound could be heard.
The power of Solid Script magic depended on the user's knowledge of magic. The more magical knowledge one had, the more versatile the words they could create.
Therefore, aside from taking on missions, Levy spent most of her time in the library, expanding her knowledge.
George was very interested in the magic of all three, but his time was limited. For now, he decided to prioritize learning Giant Magic and Light Magic.
Seeing Master Makarov effortlessly take down all the mages in his giant form had further solidified George's determination to learn Giant Magic first.
Moreover, Levy had told him that Makarov hadn't even used a tenth of his power in that display. If he were to use Giant Magic to its fullest extent, even if all the guild mages attacked him together, they wouldn't be able to break his defense.
Giant Magic not only enhanced strength but also greatly improved defense, both physical and magical. At its peak, it was said to rival the legendary dragons.
And what were dragons? Even the unintelligent dragons of the Harry Potter world could withstand the Killing Curse, let alone the dragons of this world.
In other words, if George mastered Giant Magic, modern missiles or dark magic like the Killing Curse wouldn't be able to harm him unless they reached a certain level of power.
