Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Rescue of Senator Padmé Amidala

Aboard the Malevolence, a tactical droid nervously approached General Grievous with an urgent report: "General, we have detected unauthorized communications originating from within the ship."

"What was the nature of these transmissions?" Grievous demanded.

The droid replied with obvious reluctance: "We... we were unable to intercept the full content before the signal was terminated."

Grievous predictably erupted in fury and roared, "Monitor all internal communications immediately! We must locate that Senator at all costs!"

Suddenly, the massive warship shuddered violently under some kind of impact, and emergency alarms began blaring throughout the vessel.

"What is happening now?" Grievous growled with mounting rage.

"General, Hangar Bay Two has sustained severe damage from an unknown explosive attack," a battle droid reported with mechanical precision.

"What?!" Grievous bellowed in disbelief. "How is this possible? The Senator is still aboard this vessel. The Republic forces would not dare launch an assault. Activate all security cameras immediately and determine the cause of this attack!"

A surveillance monitor quickly switched to display Hangar Bay Two, revealing that the area had clearly suffered extensive damage from some kind of coordinated assault.

The screen showed an armoured figure hovering in mid-air with arms extended, firing multiple rockets into the hangar bay and systematically destroying everything within range before the monitor feed was cut off by the explosions.

Fortunately—or unfortunately—another surveillance camera in the hangar remained operational, and through it Grievous could observe Obi-Wan Kenobi in action. The Jedi Master wielded his blue lightsaber with masterful precision, deflecting blaster bolts fired by battle droids while systematically cutting down enemy forces. Simultaneously, what appeared to be an invisible force was dismantling droids throughout the area with supernatural efficiency.

Grievous seethed with mechanical fury and stormed out of the monitoring station, issuing an absolute directive to all remaining battle droids: locate the Senator and bring her to him alive.

Meanwhile, Steve, Sam, and Anakin had reached one of the Malevolence's main corridors and were carefully surveying their surroundings for any signs of enemy activity or their missing target.

"Where do you think she might be hiding?" Steve asked Anakin while keeping his shield ready for combat.

"I think our primary challenge right now is determining our exact location within this ship," Sam observed, then deployed his mechanical wings and took flight to conduct aerial reconnaissance of the area.

Anakin couldn't help but express his admiration: "I really wish I had equipment like that."

Suddenly, the distinctive sounds of blaster fire and explosions echoed from the lower decks of the ship.

"Found her," Sam called out, spotting Padmé's position and flying directly toward the source of the conflict.

Anakin, lightsaber ignited and ready for battle, ran toward the Senator's location with Steve close behind.

Sam arrived first at the scene and immediately opened fire on the battle droids that were pursuing Padmé.

"Cavalry's here, Senator!" Sam announced.

"Lieutenant Wilson," Padmé said with obvious relief. "You've come to my rescue twice now."

"There are multiple droid squads converging on this position," Sam called out urgently. "We need to evacuate immediately."

Sam carefully lifted both Padmé and C-3PO, adjusted his wing thrusters to maximum power, and flew at top speed to reunite with Steve and Anakin.

"Anakin," Padmé said with obvious emotion, unable to restrain herself from running to her husband and embracing him tightly.

Steve observed their interaction and sensed there was definitely more to their relationship than appeared on the surface, but he still expressed his genuine relief: "I'm glad to see you're safe, Senator."

"I cannot adequately express my gratitude to you and your team, Captain Rogers," Padmé said warmly as she stepped back from Anakin's embrace. "You've rescued me twice in such a brief period. If this pattern continues, you'll soon match Anakin's record for saving my life."

Anakin smiled and immediately contacted Obi-Wan through his communicator.

"Obi-Wan, we've located Padmé and she's safe. What's your current status?"

Obi-Wan, who had just finished destroying a super battle droid with his lightsaber, replied, "Excellent news, Anakin. Rhodey and I have neutralized the threats in this hangar section, but Scott appears to be missing."

"I'm fine, Master Kenobi," Scott's voice interrupted. "I'm right here near you and Rhodey—you just can't see me."

"Really? But we cannot detect your presence," Obi-Wan said while scanning the area around him.

"Give me just a second."

An almost imperceptible object moved through the battlefield debris and then suddenly expanded to full size, revealing Scott brushing dust and debris from his uniform.

"Alright, what's our next move?" Rhodey asked while his armor's systems conducted threat assessments.

"Anakin, Steve, and Sam have successfully located Senator Amidala, and we're prepared to begin evacuation procedures," Obi-Wan reported.

Padmé's voice came through Obi-Wan's communicator with urgent intelligence: "Wait, Master Kenobi. I overheard the battle droids reporting that the Malevolence's hyperdrive systems are not as severely damaged as initially assessed. They believe repairs can be completed in a very short timeframe."

"Didn't you mention the hyperdrive was located nearby?" Rhodey asked Obi-Wan with tactical interest.

Obi-Wan nodded, understanding Rhodey's implication, and spoke into his communicator: "Anakin, you and the others should return to the Twilight immediately. The three of us will handle the hyperdrive sabotage mission."

"Understood, Obi-Wan. We'll be waiting for you aboard the Twilight," Anakin confirmed. "Let's move out, everyone."

The two teams separated to execute their respective objectives.

After fighting through several waves of battle droid reinforcements, Obi-Wan and his two companions finally reached the vicinity of the hyperdrive systems. However, as they approached their target, a massive force of battle droids surrounded them from all directions, forcing the three men into a defensive circle formation.

A much larger, partially humanoid mechanical figure approached from the direction they had originally come. Its yellow optical sensors fixed on them with obvious malice before speaking with barely concealed sarcasm: "Well, hello there."

"General Grievous," Obi-Wan said with calm recognition.

"Wait a minute," Rhodey said, pointing at the cyborg general. "That's General Grievous?"

"Ah, you must be honored to meet someone of my considerable reputation and power," Grievous said with characteristic arrogance.

"Honestly, this guy looks like he needs serious medical attention," Scott called out loudly. "He looks like he's been poisoned or something."

Grievous's mechanical voice turned menacing: "If I am not mistaken, you two are members of these so-called Avengers. You have been interfering in a conflict that does not concern you. Are you eager to meet your deaths?"

"You're quite the arrogant villain," Rhodey taunted back. "I thought you'd be something special, but it turns out you're just this half-mechanical freak."

"I will tear you apart with my bare hands," Grievous snarled in fury.

"Destroy them all," Grievous commanded through gritted mechanical teeth.

Scott immediately activated his shrinking capability and disappeared from view. Obi-Wan began deflecting blaster bolts with his lightsaber while maneuvering for tactical advantage. Rhodey took flight, activated his armor's weapons systems, and began counterattacking with his repulsors and machine guns, firing at the continuous stream of incoming battle droids while launching shoulder-mounted missiles directly at Grievous.

Grievous dodged the incoming missiles with surprising agility and drew two lightsabers from his collection. His arms began spinning at inhuman speeds, creating an impenetrable barrier that deflected Rhodey's projectiles. The three heroes' coordinated counterattack completely enraged the cyborg general, who dropped to all fours and transformed into his more bestial combat configuration.

Both Rhodey and Scott immediately recognized the escalating danger and called out, "We need to find an exit strategy right now!"

Obi-Wan also observed that although they had destroyed the initial wave of battle droids, additional reinforcements were already en route to their position. Recognizing that a prolonged engagement would be tactically disadvantageous, he nodded and said, "Agreed. Let's withdraw."

Rhodey and Obi-Wan followed the escape route that Scott had cleared for them, with Grievous pursuing them relentlessly through the ship's corridors.

While retreating, Rhodey contacted Steve through his communication system: "Steve, we've encountered serious complications. The enemy forces at the hyperdrive location are too numerous to handle. We need to develop an alternative method for disabling this ship."

After Steve received this update, his team stopped their movement to reassess their situation.

"Then we need a new plan," Steve replied quickly. "You three focus on reaching the Twilight safely."

"Looks like we need to change our tactical approach," Sam observed. "What's our next objective?"

"We're going to the bridge," Anakin announced with renewed determination.

"Why the bridge?" Steve asked with curiosity.

Anakin explained as they began moving, "We're going to set a trap for Grievous that he won't be able to resist."

"What kind of trap?" Sam asked with puzzlement.

"We'll reprogram the Malevolence's navigation system," Anakin said with a mischievous grin, "so that the ship crashes into the nearby moon instead of escaping. No wasted firepower required."

Steve suddenly experienced a strange sense of déjà vu, similar to the unsettling feeling he'd had during his meeting in Palpatine's office, though he couldn't quite identify why. When they rounded a corner and encountered two battle droids, he was forced to set aside these troubling thoughts for the moment.

"Look, it's a Jedi!" the droid on the right shouted, raising its blaster rifle to fire.

Before it could discharge a single shot, it was struck down by Steve's vibranium shield flying through the air with perfect precision.
