Chapter 139: Seeking Water Sources
Outside the Laboratory~
As the bulletproof glass began to crack, the scientists inside promptly followed emergency protocols. They swiftly packed their belongings and started evacuating in an orderly manner.
Outside the lab, the security team armed themselves with electromagnetic rifles and riot shields, quickly forming a defensive line near the entrance.
*BANG!*
With a loud crash, the bulletproof glass shattered.
Wade climbed out of the broken window and lunged forward.
The security team, seeing this, immediately pulled their triggers.
"Zzzzzz…"
The electromagnetic rifles' energy projectiles pierced through Wade's body, hitting the walls and glass behind him.
However, the places where Wade was hit morphed into black liquid before reverting to their original form as he continued his advance.
Nearby, Adam raised his hand and froze Wade mid-air.
"No resistance to mental abilities. Looks like Felia deemed it unnecessary and removed it," Adam muttered.
Suspended mid-air, Wade returned to his normal form.
"Hey, buddy, can you put me down? I admit I was wrong."
This was Deadpool, a chatterbox who could bend and adapt to situations, but he would never forget a grudge.
When Adam released him, Wade instantly lunged again, only to be restrained once more.
"I really know I was wrong! Can't you just let me go?"
Adam ignored him and turned toward Felia.
"He's all yours now."
Felia, while diligently recording data, nodded. "Got it, boss. But this place is compromised. We need to move to another lab."
She then instructed the security team to attach an X-Gene Suppressor around Wade's neck.
The Blacklight-2 Virus was developed using X-Gene research, so Felia instinctively assumed the suppressor would be effective.
Wade, as the suppressor was fastened around his neck, flashed a strange expression for a moment but quickly masked it.
"Wait," Adam called out as Felia was about to escort Wade out of the lab.
"Red Queen, summon Sentinel-X," Adam commanded.
"Yes, Master," the AI replied.
Moments later, a towering three-meter-tall robot, its body gleaming with black and silver metal, walked into the room.
Felia was stunned at the sight of Sentinel-X.
"Boss, when did you develop this?"
"Last week. I built it myself. Unfortunately, due to material limitations, it's the only one in existence."
Adam's gaze lingered on Sentinel-X, a trace of satisfaction in his expression.
Regrettably, mass production was impossible without access to large quantities of vibranium or the formula for adamantium.

In Another Laboratory~
Felia led Wade into a new lab.
Although the X-Gene Suppressor had little effect on him, the presence of Sentinel-X made Wade feel inexplicably uneasy.
"Here, try using your abilities on this," Felia instructed, presenting a small white mouse.
Wade looked at the mouse, then back at Felia, confused.
"What do you want me to do?"
"Absorb it."
"Absorb? You mean… eat it? No way! It's such a cute little mouse; that's too cruel!"
Felia gave him a cold glance, clearly not in the mood for his antics. "Absorb it."
Glancing at Sentinel-X, Wade reluctantly muttered, "At least take off this suppressor."
Felia agreed, stepping outside to disable the X-Gene Suppressor via the Red Queen.
With the suppressor deactivated, Wade hesitantly picked up the mouse. Just as he closed his eyes and brought it closer to his mouth, his arm turned black and transformed into a liquid-like substance, engulfing the mouse.
Moments later, Wade opened his eyes to find the mouse gone, confusion etched on his face.
But then, faint and fragmented memories surfaced in his mind—memories that seemed to belong to the mouse.
Additionally, he noticed a slight restoration of his stamina.
"Could it be…?"
Further experiments confirmed his suspicions.
Felia brought in various animals for him to absorb. Each time, Wade gained snippets of memories and a small boost to his physical state.
This forced him to confront a harsh reality—he might no longer be human.

Elsewhere in Baghdad~
Meanwhile, in the ruins of Baghdad, it was a late afternoon.
Lorna, accompanied by a group of mutant subordinates, patrolled the city.
After the Mutant Sovereignty Declaration, most of the world's mutants had gathered here. While this eased her burden in some ways, it also made management more challenging.
Fortunately, with Adam's assistance, she managed to stabilize the situation.
For now, the United Nations remained entangled in bureaucracy, unable to take action against the mutants. This had created an uneasy calm in the city.
Baghdad was surrounded by tens of thousands of zombies. However, thanks to mutated zombies capable of controlling the ordinary ones, mutants could live relatively safely within the city.
To support the mutants, Lorna also recruited ordinary humans to help produce resources.
After completing her patrol, Lorna returned to the best hotel in the city, which now served as her residence.
As soon as she arrived, a man and a woman, both civilians, approached her.
"Miss Lorna, our water supplies are running low. Please make preparations as soon as possible," the woman said.
Lorna frowned.
"How can that be? We don't have that many people, and our daily consumption shouldn't be that high."
Currently, Baghdad housed over a thousand mutants and more than twenty thousand ordinary humans.
The man explained, "Although we don't have many people, there's been no rainfall recently, and much of the water supply has been contaminated. Usable water is scarce."
The woman added, "We could use the contaminated water, but that risks turning people into zombies."
Lorna shook her head firmly. "That's out of the question. The risk of infection is too high."
"Then what should we do about the water supply?"
After a moment of thought, Lorna instructed, "Summon Ms. Monroe."
Shortly after, Ororo Monroe, clad in silver-white attire with flowing white hair, arrived.
Under Adam's mental control, Ororo had forgotten about the X-Men and Professor Charles Xavier. She now resembled a soulless automaton.
"Miss Lorna, what are your orders?"
"Ms. Monroe, we need you to summon a storm to replenish our water supplies."
Without a word, Ororo nodded. Her pupils disappeared as she gazed at the sky, preparing to unleash her weather-controlling abilities.
