Chapter 30: Chapter 30: The Iron Armor Leak
From the moment Aetheris first laid eyes on that girl, it felt like his entire world had been filled with her presence.
Especially when she looked up with that gentle smile. The tenderness in the slight downward tilt of her head reminded him of a delicate water lily trembling in a cool breeze.
Because of that girl, Aetheris experienced a passion for studying like never before throughout high school.
During evening self-study hours, he would always head to the library.
Whether he was actually reading or simply watching her... well, his final exam results told the story.
Her seat was always fixed, so Aetheris would choose a spot diagonally across from her, or sometimes behind her.
Night after night, he found himself staring blankly at her graceful figure and beautiful face.
He liked her long, straight black hair, and the way her swan-like neck occasionally peeked into view.
But back then, Aetheris was just an ordinary high school kid. His grades were average, his athletic performance unremarkable. He didn't fight, didn't argue with classmates. He was the kind of well-behaved student both teachers and parents appreciated.
He never dared to look at her directly. At most, he'd steal glances from the corner of his eye or quietly admire her slender figure wrapped in a school uniform from behind.
Even though it was silent admiration, it was enough to satisfy the lovesick teen inside him.
But time had passed. Aetheris was no longer that unnoticed, insignificant boy. Now, he radiated confidence and brilliance. With just a wave of his hand, countless stunning women lined up, eager to share his bed.
"Hey! Why are you zoning out?" Betty Ross waved her fair fingers in front of his face.
"Heh, just remembering the past. What book are you reading?" Aetheris snapped back to reality and smiled at Betty's stunning face.
"Just some biology textbooks," Betty replied, stretching lazily. Her voluptuous curves were impossible to ignore, and Aetheris couldn't help but feel his body react again.
"What time is it?" Betty rubbed her tired eyes.
"Almost nine. Just a few more hours before bedtime," Aetheris replied as his gaze drifted to her luscious, rosy lips, reminding him of Nova.
Perhaps it was the stuffy air in the library or maybe his rising internal heat. Pointing to the cup in front of Betty, he asked, "Can I have a sip? I'm dying of thirst."
Betty gave him a look and rolled her eyes but didn't say a word.
Without hesitation, Aetheris picked up the cup and noticed a bright red lipstick mark on the rim.
"Sweet," he muttered after taking a sip.
He handed the cup back to Betty.
"I think you're teasing me," she said, her voice carrying a hint of seduction.
"I think we're just attracted to each other."
Aetheris suddenly leaned in. For a long moment, their eyes locked.
"Mmm..." Betty's eyes seemed ready to overflow.
Aetheris licked the corner of his mouth.
"What brand of lipstick is that?"
"Guerlain."
"Tastes good."
Just as Aetheris was about to suggest they take things further tonight...
♪ "Wandering through New York for ten years, sometimes I miss what we once had. Though things have changed, the sky still connects you and me..." ♪
His phone started ringing.
Who the hell is ruining the mood right now? Don't they know I'm in the middle of humanity's greatest mission? Continuing the human race?
If they don't have a damn good reason, I'm going to spank her hard!
"Hello? HAPPY?"
"Shithead, get back here, quick! Pepper's been kidnapped by some lunatic in a goblin costume!"
"What the hell?!"
Aetheris shot up from his seat, startling Betty Ross.
"What's wrong, Tony?"
"Nothing serious. I'll have to cut tonight short. Rain check on our date." Without waiting for Betty's response, Aetheris leapt straight out the second-floor window.
"Hey, that's the second floor!" Betty cried, realizing what he had done. The library's second floor was at least ten meters above ground. Jumping from there could easily be fatal.
She rushed to the window and looked down, but Aetheris was already gone.
Didn't expect the Hulk's bloodline to be this insane. I'm basically a human tank now. An amphibious assault tank wearing spring-loaded boots.
Aetheris didn't bother with his flashy sports car. Instead, he bounded across New York's forest of skyscrapers. Leaping tens of meters was nothing for someone with Hulk's bloodline. It felt like jumping over puddles as a kid.
In just ten minutes, Aetheris returned to Stark Industries.
By now, the building's front was already packed with rubbernecking Americans, along with the typically late-arriving NYPD.
Aetheris had no intention of relying on the police to save Pepper.
"HAPPY, get me on the line with someone named Natasha Romanoff from the legal department!" Aetheris rushed into the office and pulled up the surveillance footage of Pepper's abduction.
"Damn it! It really is that freak Norman Osborn! I planned to let him linger a little longer... wait until I fully took over Oscorp before kicking him out. Never thought he'd act like a cornered dog!"
Aetheris was annoyed. He'd never taken that clown seriously. Just some guy who got beaten by the original Spider-Man. Aetheris figured getting rid of him would be easier than squashing a bug.
But now wasn't the time for regret. His transmigration had already altered the original Marvel storyline.
His ability to predict future plotlines was significantly weakened.
"Boss, there's no one named Natasha Romanoff in the legal department," HAPPY panted as he ran in.
"No? That's impossible..." Aetheris frowned. He clearly remembered that in Iron Man 2, Natasha infiltrated Stark Industries as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in disguise, assigned to manipulate Iron Man at a critical moment.
Then suddenly, it hit him. Something extremely important.
No one knows he's Iron Man. Except for Pepper!
In the original timeline, after Tony Stark took down his uncle Victor, he held a press conference—a classic Marvel moment. He was supposed to read from a script but famously went off-script and said the line etched into Marvel history:
"I am Iron Man."
But now, no one knew Aetheris was Iron Man. Which meant S.H.I.E.L.D. had no reason to send Natasha undercover.
After all, no matter how rich Aetheris was, he was just an ordinary guy. Why would S.H.I.E.L.D. care about another wealthy civilian?
There were plenty of rich people in America, and S.H.I.E.L.D. probably had limited manpower.
So laying low and trying to grow quietly was a mistake now? Looks like I'll have to blend in with local customs. I can't rely on my past life's knowledge anymore.
"JARVIS, bring up the Mark II suit!"
A hatch in the floor clicked open, and the Mark II Hellfire Armor slowly rose up.
Once fully suited, Aetheris began issuing commands without pause.
