Marvel Transmigration: I Possessed Iron Man

Chapter 18: Chapter 18: A Date with Betty

"Come in."

A rich, magnetic voice with the crisp, confident tone of an all-American woman rang out.

Pushing open the door, Aetheris stepped inside and saw Betty Ross hunched over her lab bench, immersed in a chemical experiment. It was most likely connected to her research on the gamma serum.

She was still hopelessly in love with her boyfriend.

But as a messenger of ancient wisdom from the East, sent to save this Marvel Universe, it was only natural for Aetheris to help this poor woman escape the emotional quicksand of her last relationship.

She needed a fresh start — a passionate, unforgettable love story filled with warmth and hope.

And the hero of that story? None other than Aetheris — Tony Stark — the embodiment of love and justice.

Betty's long, slightly wavy black hair framed a delicate face with a straight nose and eyes as green and deep as a mountain lake. Her slender figure was draped in a thin blouse, graceful yet subtly curvaceous.

"Excuse me, are you Professor Betty Ross?" Aetheris asked politely.

"I am. And you must be... Tony Stark?" Betty's eyes widened slightly, surprised to see this man — a frequent fixture on magazine covers and television screens — here in her lab.

"I asked one of your students where I could find you," Aetheris explained, smiling gently. "I was wondering if you had some time to talk. May I sit?"

"Of course. Please, have a seat," Betty said, her expression flustered, clearly caught off guard by the unexpected visit.

"Would you like something to drink? Coke? Coffee? Or..." Betty fidgeted with her hands, uncertain where to rest them.

"No need. But if you're free, I'd love to treat you to a cup of coffee," Aetheris offered.

"Um... sure. I know a café nearby. It's not very big, but the coffee is excellent," Betty replied after a moment's hesitation. She suspected this wasn't a simple social call.

"Is it far? If you'd prefer, we can take my car."

"It's just across from campus. We can walk."

The two of them strolled side by side through the grounds of Culver University. The evening breeze stirred Betty's dark curls as they walked.

Aetheris inhaled the faint jasmine fragrance that drifted from her hair, his heart lightening with each step.

If only he could both talk and act on his feelings. But if he made a move now, he'd probably get punched into next week for being a creep.

"Sorry to show up so suddenly," Aetheris said apologetically.

"I was just wondering what brought you here. We don't exactly run in the same circles," Betty replied, her composure returning.

As the daughter of a general and a professor at Culver University, Betty Ross had seen her fair share of powerful people. She'd even glimpsed the President of the United States once, standing beside her father.

Still, faced with a billionaire worth hundreds of millions, she felt slightly suffocated. The stares from others, the whispers — it all made her feel like a gold-digger clinging to wealth.

For someone as proud as Betty, that was hard to swallow.

"True, we didn't know each other before. But who knows what the future holds?" Aetheris replied with a small smile.

"Have you heard of Oscorp Industries?"

"You mean Norman Osborn's Oscorp?" Betty's eyes brightened with curiosity.

"I heard they've recently been developing a serum that enhances human potential and physical performance."

"Wow, you're well-informed."

"Of course. I interned there during my undergrad. Oscorp is top-tier in bioengineering and human genetics," Betty explained, a hint of nostalgia in her voice.

"But the company's boss, Norman Osborn, was... unpleasant. He often called me to his office under the pretense of 'discussing hairstyles.'"

What? Norman Osborn tried to "discuss hairstyles" with his future fiancée?

"And you..." Aetheris hesitated, unsure if he should say what was on his mind.

"Of course, I never went. The senior staff warned me about him. Osborn's a complete creep. A lot of female interns fell victim to him. But the Osborn family is so rich, any scandal gets buried overnight."

"Oh? We're here."

"Sir, miss, table for two?" The doorman — a tall, burly international student working part-time — greeted them politely.

"Just the two of us," Aetheris confirmed with a nod.

"Right this way, please." The student led them inside.

"Two cups of civet coffee, please," Aetheris ordered after scanning the menu, going straight for the most expensive option.

Truth be told, he had no clue what cappuccino, mocha, Blue Mountain, Shangri-La Esmeralda, or hot Mocha Java tasted like. His humble life experience consisted mostly of Nestlé instant coffee.

And honestly? Nestlé wasn't bad at all.

"By the way, do you grind your coffee by hand here?" Aetheris asked casually.

"Sir, all our beans are freshly ground. You're welcome to take a look at the process if you like," the student replied with a smile.

"Haha, no need. I trust you," Aetheris chuckled warmly.

"Your coffee will be ready shortly."

"No rush. Good coffee deserves patience," Aetheris replied, slipping a crisp hundred-dollar bill onto the table with a wink.

"You didn't have to order something so expensive. The regular coffee here is great," Betty remarked.

"That wouldn't do. It's my first time treating a beautiful professor to coffee. I had to make it special," Aetheris replied with a gentle smile.

"Earlier, you said 'who knows what the future holds.' What did you mean by that?" Betty asked, her large, luminous eyes fixed on him.

Under the soft candlelight, a golden glow surrounded her, making it look as though she were wrapped in a sheer veil of light.

"Mr. Stark, staring at a woman like that isn't very polite," Betty teased, a playful smile lifting the corners of her lips — a glimpse of the carefree girl she'd been during her college days with Banner.

Aetheris was momentarily dazed. He'd never imagined a woman could be this beautiful.

No doubt about it — she was destined to become a breathtaking elven princess in the future.

"My apologies. I have a weakness for beauty in people and in life. It might just be my greatest flaw," Aetheris admitted with a shrug.

"People say Tony Stark is a playboy. Looks like the rumors are true. Is this how you usually charm women?" Betty asked, a faint smirk on her lips. But beneath her playful tone, there was an undercurrent of vulnerability.

Recently, she'd been caught in emotional turmoil — torn between her father and her boyfriend, both people she cared for deeply, yet unable to choose either.
