Chapter 224: C153(1)
"We made it, boss."
It has been six months since the last meeting and inquiry, and Dr. Ashford reported some good news to Kain. Although he had been studying the T-virus in the laboratory, Ashford was not ignorant of the outside world.
More and more zombies were sent to the headquarters, and news unfavorable to Umbrella came from outside from time to time. It was enough for Dr. Ashford to know what Umbrella was up to now.
Even so, Ashford had no intention of betraying Umbrella. He had some concerns before, mainly because Isaac didn't respect him, and he and Isaac's radical ideas didn't align.
But things were different now. With a new boss in charge, they placed great importance on their researchers and gave them a lot of autonomy.
Moreover, Umbrella's influence was too strong, and most people viewed working for Umbrella as an honor.
Dr. Ashford took out a tube of Green's potion and showed it to Kain. "This is the detoxification serum for the T-virus. It can break down the remaining T-virus in the human body, and it can be transmitted through the air. If we release it in 32 locations around the world, we can eliminate all T-viruses on the planet."
"You did a good job, Dr. Ashford," Kain said with a satisfied smile. "Let me know when you have enough serum produced, and then Alina will connect with you."
Kain had single-handedly promoted Alina, and she was now the head of the bio-disaster countermeasures team.
In the past, she had only followed his and Alicia's orders in the company, but now she had the Red Queen to assist her.
Although it was a bit late, it wasn't too late. The number of deaths due to zombie outbreaks around the world had exceeded 10,000. Some countries were starting to point fingers at Umbrella, but they lacked evidence.
In the first two months, the bio-disaster countermeasure force struggled to collect zombies.
The local governments intercepted those infected with the T-virus due to political pressure from some European heads of state.
It was only under the Red Queen's supervision that they discovered the truth: The President of the United States had been in contact with them.
They believed the zombie outbreak was a plot by Umbrella to destroy the world. However, aside from Umbrella's products, only the United States could spread the virus across dozens of countries.
The President of the United States, however, swore on his honor that it wasn't their doing.
The President of the United States passed away last month. Kain had Shadow Clone take half a day off to attend the president's funeral in person.
It was reported that he collided with the Secretary of Defense's car, which had braked out of control, and both died quite miserably.
Umbrella employed two or three times as many people as the U.S. military, making it very easy to quietly replace a president.
And without Kain's direct involvement, the Red Queen would handle it, leaving the rest to the special operations force. The American political sphere lost two of the most hostile politicians to Umbrella.
After the Vice President assumed the presidency, the relationship between the White House and Umbrella eased considerably. At least in the United States, Umbrella was safe and secure.
"Dr. Ashford, you have a new task," Kain said. "You are to use those infected zombies to study the perfect T-virus and its variants. Umbrella will give you the greatest support."
Kain issued the new order but noticed hesitation on Ashford's face. He asked, "Is there a problem, Dr. Ashford?"
"Boss, if you want to conduct tests on T-virus variants, you may need a lot of live volunteers. Relying solely on those zombies..." Ashford hesitated.
"Don't worry about that. There will be a steady stream of voluntary subjects sent to your research center. Umbrella is not short on money," Kain reassured him.
Kain went on to explain that with Umbrella's resources and some financial support, they could easily acquire a large number of volunteers from the African continent.
Though different races might be needed for the experiments, the variants of the T-virus that were promoted early on, were sufficient.
After hearing Kain's words, Dr. Ashford had nothing more to say and agreed. Though this boss was easier to talk to than Isaac, Ashford knew that if Kain insisted on a particular course of action, it might end up worse than falling into Isaac's hands.
In the past six months, while Ashford had been focused on researching the antidote for the T-virus, he was not blind to the company's affairs.
All four directors and 17 senior executives had been fired. As for their current safety, Ashford had only seen one of the "voluntary subjects."
The battle among the company's top executives had been fierce. To many, Kain was just a strange outsider who had suddenly acquired a majority of the company's shares.
His management skills were thought to be inferior to those of James and Isaac.
However, anyone who thought that was sorely mistaken, and those with that mindset paid a heavy price.
After finishing his conversation with Ashford, Kain tapped on the table and summoned the Red Queen's virtual projection.
A mature woman, she perfectly mirrored Kain's vision. This time, he didn't allow Isaac's preference or Alicia's voice and face to be used.
"Red Queen, how is the copy of the technical documentation coming along?"
The Red Queen replied, "All technical materials have been collected and stored according to classification. This includes all the technical data that could be gathered from 31 countries. There are a total of 13,572 data sets."
Kain nodded, satisfied with the Red Queen's performance, but his intelligence could use improvement. "It's still a bit sluggish. It seems that Isaac and the others need to spend more time on optimizing the Red Queen."
"Sir, I can simulate 21 expressions and 27 emotions. However, if it is not necessary, my program logic advises against doing so. If you require it, I can add this capability."
The Red Queen responded proactively. It had only been two months since her development, and her first mission was to eliminate certain individuals who shouldn't exist, followed by collecting and storing various advanced technologies.
