Chapter 13: Chapter 13: A Beautiful World
These creatures were not only bizarre but also felt wrong, like things that should not exist in the real world.
There was a watermelon-sized snail lying on Nancy's back, its body moving slowly, leaving behind a strange shimmering trail of slime. On Sidney's shoulder, another snail stood upright, as if surveying its surroundings. Not far from them, a giant lobster with three heads and six claws, complete with teeth that looked like saw blades, was dancing in a grotesque and unnatural manner.
"Oh my God! What is happening here?!" Nancy exclaimed in a restrained voice, while Sidney stood rigid, her eyes wide.
"Is this... your doing?!" Sidney glared at Lance with a mix of anger and fear.
The two women, usually known as brave female detectives, were now frozen in place. They dared not move, even to take a deep breath.
Lance, seemingly unfazed by the strange creatures, simply smiled. Casually, he walked closer and reached out to tease the large lobster. The creature lifted one of its claws, as if responding to Lance's touch.
"Don't be afraid," Lance said in a calm tone.
Lance's movements only heightened Sidney's fear. Her usually colorful face turned pale as ash.
"What... what is this?!" Nancy's voice trembled.
Lance turned, still smiling. Calmly, he explained: "They are extraordinary entities in the invisible spectrum. These things are born from shadows. You seem to be in the same place as them, but in reality, they come from a different dimension. They cannot touch you, and you cannot touch them."
"Different dimension?" Nancy and Sidney exchanged glances, still with confused expressions.
Nancy tried to overcome her fear, carefully bending her arm. She reached for the large snail on her back, but when her hand touched the snail's skin, it was as if she couldn't touch it—like it had never existed.
Despite the cold sweat soaking her temples, Sidney mustered the courage to try to catch the giant lobster. Her hand swung nervously, but just like Nancy, Sidney could touch nothing but empty air.
The two women finally let out long sighs, a sense of relief beginning to flow. However, their gazes soon shifted, now looking at Lance with suspicion.
Nancy pursed her lips and asked sharply, "Is this just your magic trick?"
Lance shook his head with a flat expression. "No."
Lance continued to tease the large lobster, which now showed its teeth and claws. Nevertheless, Lance did not seem worried. He even casually placed his hand into one of the lobster's claws. Strangely, the creature did nothing to harm Lance.
"This is not an illusion. They are real," Lance asserted.
Nancy and Sidney looked at the creatures once more, but their inability to interact with them made everything feel increasingly surreal.
Lance then continued, his voice calm yet also felt stirring: "The human body is a perfect medium for microorganisms. Whether you realize it or not, your body is home to billions of bacteria. Right now, there may be tiny mites living on your face, feeding on your dead skin cells."
"Similarly, your soul can also attract 'parasites,' but not ordinary parasites. From what was once only at the microscopic level, they are now at the level... magical." Lance stepped a little closer, looking at Nancy and Sidney with an expression full of mystery.
"These things," Lance continued while pointing at the giant lobster, "can be considered extra-dimensional bacteria. They may look like monsters to you, but like the mites I mentioned earlier, they are not all harmful. In fact, most of them are beneficial to humans. When your emotions are chaotic or stressed, they can help alleviate that burden by absorbing negative energy."
Nancy tilted her head, confused yet fascinated. "So they... cleanse negative emotions?"
Lance nodded slowly, but his expression hardened slightly. "However, of course, if the negative emotions are too much—like an uncontrollable flood—they won't be able to do anything. Balance is the key."
Nancy looked at the large lobster with curious eyes. She reached out her hand again, hoping this time to touch the strange creature that looked so real. But, just like before, Nancy's hand only touched emptiness. The lobster remained still, standing in place as if indifferent to Nancy's attempt.
"Extra-dimensional bacteria that can absorb negative emotions... Do magical creatures like this really exist in this world?" Nancy whispered to herself, her wide eyes shining with enthusiasm like a child who has found a new toy.
On the other hand, Sidney looked at Lance with a different expression. Sidney's focus seemed to shift elsewhere, with a mix of curiosity and ambition. "So, is this world as you see it, Sorcerers? Hey, Lance, is there a chance I could become a Sorcerer like you? If you want to teach me, I could help you get closer to Nancy."
Nancy suddenly turned, looking surprised by her friend's blatant betrayal. But instead of being angry, Nancy's lips curved into a small smile. Her cheeks flushed gently, while her eyes sparkled as if hearing something delightful.
Indeed, as Lance had once said in his prophecy, Nancy was someone fragile and full of uncertainty. However, in front of Lance, Nancy felt a strange warmth that she had longed for. There was something about that man that made Nancy feel... safe.
Lance looked at Sidney with an amused expression, then shrugged. "Not everyone can learn magic. The qualifications to become a Sorcerer are very strict."
Lance stepped back a little, looking at both of them with a serious gaze. "Imagine this: in a world with nearly seven billion people, the number of Sorcerers is no more than a thousand. If you look at that simple comparison alone, you can imagine how difficult it is to meet the qualifications."
However, Sidney was not the type to give up easily. He crossed his arms over his chest, staring at Lance with his chin raised. "How do you know I don't meet the qualifications? Don't judge too quickly, friend."
Lance chuckled softly but did not respond immediately.
"I've never met a teacher who teaches magic," Sidney said challengingly, his eyes narrowing sharply. "Maybe my qualifications are better than yours!"
