Marvel : The God Of Punishment System

Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Mephisto, the Conspiracy Continues

"AAAHHHH!" Corvus Glaive Glaive roared in pain, spinning and hurling Steve away. By pure dumb luck, he landed right next to his famous shield.

Grabbing it, Steve noticed that Corvus Glaive had moved his hand from covering his crotch to covering his eyes. Without missing a beat, he aimed with his thumb, "WHOOM!" The vibranium disc shot away!

"Damn!" Jason sucked in a sharp breath.

Holy crap! If I'd known you were this badass, I would've driven my beat-up truck to the North Pole myself to dig you out!

The shield flew in a straight line, heading right for Corvus Glaive's groin. At the last second, a shadow flashed—his right hand actually caught the shield!

With one eye bloodshot, his whole body shaking, Corvus Glaive forced out words through gritted teeth: "You dirty bastard! I'll peel your skin off, drink your blood, and rip out your guts!"

"Ha!" Steve snorted: "What good does killing me do?"

He pointed at Jason chilling nearby, announcing: "Him, over there! That's Jason, The Savior—the strongest defender on this planet, the guy who represents our values, and the hero millions of people worship! You wanna conquer Earth? You gotta beat him first!"

Corvus Glaive immediately locked eyes on Jason, seeing Ebony Maw still trapped in the electricity.

Jason focused, turning the lightning in the sky into a giant net, completely binding Ebony Maw. He pulled her toward him, opened and closed his absolute zero dimension, and Ebony Maw vanished inside.

Seeing this display, Corvus Glaive got much more careful.

Jason slowly floated down next to Steve, looked into his calm eyes, and said: "Holy shit! I like you even more now!"

Steve shrugged casually: "I won over beautiful women not with just my abs!"

Turning to Corvus Glaive Glaive, Jason said: "Obviously you can't beat us both. I won't say I'm being unfair. Here's your chance—call for backup!"

Corvus Glaive gritted his teeth, spitting: "You arrogant prick!"

With that, he charged in with his weapon raised.

Jason shook his head with a sigh: "Some people don't know when to quit!"

One swing of Mjolnir brought the thunder roaring back!

...

Far away at Stark Tower, in the middle floors, some totally forgettable corner—Mephisto, dressed sharp in a suit and leaning on his skull cane, quietly watched the fight from a distance.

Chitauri soldiers kept flying past him, but they acted like he wasn't even there.

Watching Steve fight from afar, he muttered to himself: "Captain America... yeah, he's stubborn as hell... I tried everything and this is as far as I got changing him. Playboys like Stark are way easier to mess with..."

He looked at Jason fighting, and his eyes went ice cold: "Whatever—enjoy your little victory! When the whole world goes to hell, let's see if you'll still be too proud to beg me for mercy!"

After saying that, his body disappeared like he was never there.

...

While Jason kept fighting, the war between the alien army and the U.S. military started changing big-time. One after another, massive Leviathan monsters poured out of the portal in the sky. Their huge size completely shocked everyone.

The military immediately started shooting at these giants "swimming" through the air, and missiles hit right on target. But what killed their spirits was seeing that after the explosion cleared, these beasts didn't have a scratch on them!

They twisted between the tall buildings, dropping tons of alien soldiers from inside their bodies, instantly putting major pressure on our ground troops! Not only that, more and more alien flying tanks showed up in the sky.

Many of the jets and helicopters we sent up got blown to pieces in the air. There was even one helicopter that lost control and crashed straight into Stark Tower, the pilot didn't even get a chance to bail out.

The explosion blew out almost every window in the building. Helicopter fuel sprayed everywhere, starting fires immediately. The whole scene was nightmare fuel.

Things suddenly got really tough. The White House, and everyone else watching this disaster live on TV, got super nervous. Freeman wiped his forehead, thanking god the press conference was already over. Otherwise he'd have no idea what to tell reporters!

He turned to his staff: "Where the hell are the Avengers? If they don't show up soon, our troops are gonna get slaughtered!"

Just as he said that, the staff member hung up and looked relieved: "They're here! They're here! They're finally back!"

Right then, the Avengers' Blackbird jet appeared over New York. Before it even landed, a big green guy dropped out of the plane.

The goddamn Hulk himself!

He slammed right onto a Leviathan's back and started doing what he does best—smashing and wrecking stuff! Storm grabbed Cyclops and Jean's shoulders and flew straight out of the plane.

They landed on Stark Tower's roof, and a massive red beam shot up to the sky, slicing through the air like a huge sword. At the same time, dark storm clouds gathered fast, creating tornadoes and lightning that sucked up loads of alien soldiers.

Jean stood at the edge of the roof and waved her hand. Alien chariots in the distance got grabbed by invisible giant hands and slammed into buildings or into the ground.

These three were incredibly powerful and instantly caught the attention of tons of alien soldiers. They started swarming Stark Tower, climbing up like ants!

Meanwhile, Stark was still busting ass to get back as fast as he could.

...

Seeing the Avengers were back, Jason stopped wasting time with Corvus Glaive. He cranked Mjolnir up to eleven, hammering Corvus Glaive with thunder that came down like crazy rain.

The guy was barely hanging on. Finally, even his super-tough alien body started showing damage, getting covered in cuts and burns. His eyes darted around, then he suddenly went all-out attack. Just when he was about to reach Jason, he spun around, spotted a hole in the lightning net.

With huge power, he actually threw his war blade straight through the gap, sending it flying toward the portal in the sky. Corvus Glaive's soul is stuck in his blade. Even if his body dies here on Earth, he can come back to life as long as the blade makes it home!

Too bad for him, Jason knew this dirty little secret. The war blade only got about fifty yards up when suddenly a thick mesh of lightning appeared and caught it dead-on. Seeing this, Corvus Glaive freaked out and got hit by lightning as thick as a barrel. He hit the ground hard, twitching all over and knocked out cold.

Jason zapped over and tossed both him and the war blade into his freeze zone. Now Thanos was down three of his top five guys.

Looking up at all the alien soldiers still pouring through the portal, Jason frowned. He knew there was a huge mothership behind the portal. If only...

He turned and waved at Wolverine: "You guys keep taking out the small fry on the ground. I'm gonna figure out how to shut that portal."

Before taking off, he told Steve: "Cap, if you want to join the Avengers officially, come find me. You can be the team captain!"

With that, he shot up into the sky. After flying around for a bit, he spotted Ancient One doing Tai Chi on a balcony.

"Hey Master, these aliens are crazy strong and there's way too many. What should I do?"

Ancient One glanced at him but said nothing.

Jason kept his cool: "I want to sneak onto their ship and blow up their mothership. Master Ancient One, want to come with me?"

"Nope."

Ancient One kept it short and sweet.

Jason raised an eyebrow: "Come on, maybe I can help Strange out later?"

"If he can't handle his problem himself, he's not fit to be the next Sorcerer Supreme."

Jason paused, then said: "Master, you're not scared of Thanos, are you?"

Ancient One said nothing. Man, she's stubborn.

Whatever, it was just a random idea. If Ancient One would go through the portal with him and guarantee a way out, he'd totally try to take over that whole ship. But going alone? He was worried about things going wrong.

If the portal accidentally closed while he was on their ship, he'd be screwed! Even with his powers, grabbing their whole ship alone would be super hard. The enemy could self-destruct or even warp him away to their base!

If they activated that system, Jason would have no choice but to blow it all up. Given these options, Jason pulled out his phone: "Mr. President, this battle's getting out of hand. Please launch a nuke."

Ancient One didn't even look up. What mental strength.

Jason flew up and met the nuke halfway there, acting as a human GPS. The missile went through the portal and spotted the giant four-armed spaceship. After making some tweaks, Jason let go and zoomed back to Earth as fast as he could.

Still in the air, he grabbed the Mind Scepter and rushed toward the portal machine on top of Stark's building. "BAM!" The device shattered completely.

The portal in the sky slammed shut fast. At the same time, a bright flash came through the last bit of the gap.

In an instant, all the Leviathans, flying chariots, and alien soldiers that were still running around in New York dropped to the ground like someone unplugged them. This war was finally done.

Stark's red-suited form finally showed up on the horizon. After two hours of hauling ass through the air, his eyes were completely red.

When he finally got a good look at Stark Tower, everything went dark and he almost fainted…

The Avengers had saved the world once again. At the same time, the U.S. military putting on a show had brought back Americans' faith in the Pentagon and White House.

Freeman jumped on the chance, making a speech about how holding early elections involved lots of issues and complicated paperwork. The White House was working hard to get it done, but they couldn't nail down a date.

He asked everyone to be patient while his staff figured out when elections would happen. The news didn't get much pushback. Freeman successfully stretched his presidency a few extra months.

...

At the deepest point in the ocean, the Mariana Trench, an unexpected visitor showed up. A fancy suit and a skull-topped cane. Even in the deep ocean, he moved around like he was walking on dry land.

He wandered until he hit what felt like a wall. He could sense something inside—something old, decaying, lonely, bored, but still crazy powerful.

"Why waste away in this endless prison? Get out! Come back with your army! Make the world shake with fear—take over everything!"
