Marvel: Peter's Second Chance

Peter's POV:

When, Melissa started to talk to me, I didn't notice anything wierd at first, but as our discussion went on, I noticed that Melissa was steering the conversation towards my meeting with Franklin Storm. She told me about her job as the receptionist and how her she wanted to do research instead of just smiling and greeting every person who walk in through the front door. Then she said about how she would need a lab partner if she wanted to do anything in the lab.

'Man that must be exhausting! Imagine just smiling to each and every person who walk in, that's as exhausting as it is irritating. I would help her if I can, but it's not like I can just ask Mr.Franklin to make her my partner or anything. Wait a minute, something ain't right! She is not trying to manipulate me into requesting Mr.Franklin to make her my partner right? There is only one way to know the answer. Be straight forward '

" Wait a moment, Melissa! I'm not trying to be rude or anything but I'm gonna be straightforward and ask, Do you want to be my lab partner? Is that why you are talking about all your problems and the only solution to it being a partner and that's why you are talking to me, when I'm here to apply for an internship?" I said and, that seems to have caught Mellisa off gaurd, as she started to stutter.

Melissa's POV:

'Ok! I did not expect that. Now he knows my true intentions. Oh no!! He must hate me now! What to do?' i screamed inside my head but retained my smiling face on the outside. Finally I decided to be truthful and said, "Yes. I did try to manipulate you a little bit it was not to harm you are anything. I just wanted to do research too but my father is a big worrywart and because of that, I won't be able to do any practical research until I'm fifteen years old.".

" Plus it will be a win win situation because, I get to do my research and you have someone you know instead of being stuck inbetween strangers." I continued. I expected him to get angry but he just sighed and said, " I can't promise you anything Melissa, but if , I get selected for the internship, I'll ask Mr.Franklin.". I felt extremely happy and surprised because, Peter was willing to help me even though we weren't close friends. 'I have decided! I'll help Peter no matter what!' I promised myself.

No One's POV:

Just as Peter had said those words, the phone in the reception started to ring. Melissa attended the call and said somethings and looked at Peter and said, " Mr. Franklin is waiting for you right now at his office. All the best, Peter. Plus, don't forget to request me as your partner!". Giving a quick thank you to Melissa, Peter left the reception to go to Mr.Franklin's office.

Peter took the elevator and as the elevator was going up, Peter started to feel nervous, after all he was about to talk with the father of two members of the future "Fantastic Four". Peter wanted to turn back and leave but the determination to improve and survive in this world overpowered his nervousness. Finally, the elevator came to a stop at the top most floor of the building and then Peter stepped out.

Right at the end of the floor, Dr.Fanklin's room was situated and after gathering all the courage he had, Peter started to walk towards the office. Once he was infront of it, he knocked twice and waited for a reply. When he heard a "Come in!", he pushed open the door and stepped inside. Inside, Dr.Franklin was looking through the files and when he saw Peter, he was a bit surprised but he told him to sit down and started to talk to him.

Dr.Franklin's POV:

When I got a request from a thirteen year old kid, for a summer internship program in the Baxter Building, I didn't think much of it, but when I looked through his records, I saw that he was a prodigy, and all his teachers only praised him, except P.E, apparently, the kid was very weak. So, when I the kid, I was surprised because he wasn't as frail looking as he was in the photos.

He had some muscle to not be considered weak. Anyway, now I have to question him. "Peter Parker, I presume?" I said. A simple "Yes Sir!" was his reply. "I'll be straight to the point. Why do you want this internship? A genius like you can go anywhere he wants, so why the Baxter Building?" I questioned his intention.

Then he replied "Well, sir! I've been following your work, and, well, I think I could really contribute. And I've already completed high school-level science courses, and I've been working on my own projects at home. I built a fully functional circuit board last month, and I've been studying quantum physics in my spare time.". His reply was something that,I did not expect because his records don't show his interest in quantum physics.

Peter's POV:

Well what I was telling was true, because the previous Peter had infact done all of that. Mr.Franklin then said,"Quantum physics at thirteen? That's quite the claim. What makes you think you're ready for a place like this? The Baxter Building isn't exactly a summer camp.". Well time to show him what I'm made of.

"I know, sir. But I'm not looking for a camp. I want to learn from the best. I've read all about your work in energy research, and I think I could help—or at least not get in the way. I'm a fast learner, and I'm not afraid of hard work.", I replied showing him my determination to get the internship and by the looks of it, he noticed it.

Franklin's POV:

'The kid has determination, I'll give him that', I thought to myself. And his records have impressed me already,so," Well you have an impressive record and you have a determination to improve yourself, so you can start your internship from next monday. Anything you want to add?", I asked and I got a reply from him immediately.

He seemed nervous yet determined, and said," Um... Sir, since I'm new here can I have a partner?". That was an odd yet understandable question,but,'Whom do, I make his partner?', I thought. I think Susan might be a good idea, but before I can say anything, Peter said, "Well sir, since you haven't said anything, can I request for, Melissa Shield? She is an acquaintance of mine, so I won't feel awkward around her.".

'David's daughter? Well I did want to help her but David worries too much for his daughter, but since she will have a partner he won't have to worry too much. Plus, if I make Susan their mentor, since Johnny is far too irresponsible, everything will work out fine. And David won't be able to complain because his daughter will have a partner as well as a good mentor too.' I thought.

"Well, I can arrange that. So can you inform her on your way out?" I finally replied to the kid. He seemed pretty happy with the results. "Also you and Melissa will have a mentor when your internship starts. Now have a great day, kid." I said. The kid immediately left after hearing my reply.

No One's POV:

Peter immediately left to tell Melissa the news. Once he reached the reception, Peter told Mellisa," Well, Miss Shield, guess who will be your partner from next monday?" and Melissa started to get excited, " Really?!?!? You are not playing with me right!!". Peter chuckled and replied," Wow! You seriously have no trust in your future lab partner, I'm hurt". Melissa understanding that Peter was playing with her said," Oh! Stop it. We are gonna do great things, Peter. This is the start of something beautiful, I just know it." and Peter just replied saying,"Let's Go!!!".

Hello there! It's your friendly author here. I have been busy this week, and I was intending to finish this chapter as soon as possible but got distracted a lot. Anyways here we are. We will have regular updates from now on because my exam is finishing tomorrow. Pray for me guys. It's physics exam that I have tomorrow. Anyways, gotta go, afterall, No rest for the wicked!
