Chapter 80: Chapter 080: Dr. Beth’s Doubts
It had been almost a month since the Centipede Organization attacked the hospital.
But the atmosphere at Clockwork Psychiatric Hospital was still heavy and depressing.
The doctors and nurses who had seen the horrible deaths that night were deeply shaken. Many of them couldn't move on from what they saw—some even quit or took sick leave to recover at home.
The hospital management understood, but they couldn't do much. They had to borrow staff from other hospitals to keep things running smoothly.
Also, the hospital never talked about what really happened that night, as if it was a taboo subject.
Still, some people noticed something odd: one patient had disappeared since that night. And that patient was special—every nurse and doctor had treated him with great respect.
That patient was, of course, Raymond.
The official explanation was that after the incident, Raymond's family thought the hospital was unsafe and arranged for him to be moved to another hospital.
But this didn't make sense to Dr. Beth.
She was Raymond's primary doctor. Without her permission and signature, Raymond couldn't be discharged or transferred. It didn't follow the proper process.
She even asked the hospital where Raymond had been transferred, but their answers were vague and unclear.
One personal, who was close to her, even hinted that she should stop asking about Raymond.
All of this seemed strange and only made Dr. Beth more suspicious.
She felt there had to be some secret behind it. Why else would so many people die for no clear reason? And why was the hospital hiding Raymond's whereabouts?
Were the two events connected?
Was there a hidden truth behind all of this?
Dr. Beth's imagination started running wild. She even began to wonder if the hospital management was helping some evil organization that had kidnapped Raymond.
Why else would they refuse to say where he went?
With this thought, Dr. Beth didn't give up on finding out what happened to Raymond.
It wasn't just because she once admired him as a great psychologist—it was also because he was her patient.
She couldn't accept that her patient had just disappeared. That went against everything she believed in.
Of course, not giving up didn't mean she was being reckless. She wasn't the type to act without thinking. At least on the surface, it looked like she had moved on.
Even if she hadn't been in such situations herself, she had seen enough movies to understand the danger.
If there really was a dark organization behind all of this, digging too openly might not help. It could even put her in danger.
She understood that.
So instead of asking the hospital management, she chose a different path.
Under the night sky…
Dr. Beth was chatting with David in the hospital courtyard.
Of course, officially, it was supposed to be a counseling session.
"David, try to remember carefully. Did Dr. Raymond say anything unusual in the days before he disappeared?" Dr. Beth asked quietly.
"Something unusual? I don't think so… but he did seem sure that he would be leaving soon," David said, thinking deeply.
"Are you sure? Try to remember again!" Dr. Beth pressed, unwilling to give up.
Maybe because she was too emotionally involved, her reaction made David notice something was off. He asked, "Dr. Beth, did something happen to Raymond?"
"No, don't overthink. Raymond is fine," she quickly said, realizing she might've pushed too hard.
But David didn't go along with her words. He just looked at her calmly and said, "You know, ever since I was a kid, people didn't like being around me. Sure, I'm not great at socializing, but the real reason is that I can always tell when someone's lying. That's why they didn't want to be friends with me."
Dr. Beth understood what David meant right away.
She sighed and said helplessly, "Maybe something really did happen to Dr. Raymond, but I'm not completely sure. That's why I'm quietly looking into it. You were his closest friend here at the hospital. I just wanted to see if you had any clues that might help..."
"Was it you?!"
Suddenly, David shouted, his voice low but full of anger!
Dr. Beth was startled. She thought David might be having a breakdown. She quickly stepped back, unsure and nervous.
It was only then that she noticed David's eyes. They were filled with fury—and she thought she saw a faint blue lightning flickering in them!
Thinking it was just her imagination, she rubbed her eyes and looked again.
But it wasn't a trick of the light. David's eyes were really glowing with blue sparks!
Shocked by the strange sight, she almost screamed.
Then she suddenly realized something even stranger—everyone in the courtyard had frozen in place.
Patients, workers, even the strong security guards who were patrolling—all of them suddenly stopped moving, like someone had pressed pause.
Every single person stood perfectly still, frozen in mid-action.
This eerie scene made Dr. Beth break out in a cold sweat. She didn't dare move or even make a sound.
Just then, all the frozen people started moving again—together.
No matter which way they were facing before, they all turned to face David at the same time. Their eyes glowed with a strange yellow light, and they all spoke in unison:
"This has nothing to do with me..."
"You think I'll believe that?!" David shouted with madness in his voice.
"Listen to me! I really had nothing to do with this! I did touch his mind once, but I only changed a small part of his memory. That's all!" the group replied in one voice, glowing eyes still fixed on him.
"I don't believe you! Who else could it be?!" David was still furious, his emotions out of control.
Seeing this scene, which looked like something out of a horror movie, Dr. Beth felt her legs go weak. She didn't even have the strength to run.
"This isn't real… this isn't real…" she kept whispering to herself inside her mind, wishing it was all a dream she could wake up from.
But sadly, her wish wasn't going to come true.
