Chapter 248: Chapter 248
[Next Week Event For: Warhammer: Starting as a Planetary Governor!!] [200 PS = +1 Extra Chapter!!]
Rogers exclaimed, "What! They actually formed a team of containment objects to fight other containment objects? That's insane!"
Rhodey added, "Agreed. What if something goes wrong with these uncontrollable SCPs?"
Nick Fury countered, "Hey, Cap, Colonel, you're thinking too narrowly. Don't forget, the SCPs we've encountered possess powers far beyond human comprehension. To deal with such beings, you need something of the same caliber."
Fury continued, "Besides, in the end, what dies is something already dangerous to humanity. That's a far better trade-off than losing more human lives."
Ai nodded. "True enough. If there's usable combat power, it should be utilized. Even prisoners can be valuable assets in battle."
Akainu agreed, "We know this all too well."
Robin commented, "Kind of like the Shichibukai system, isn't it? Acknowledging a few powerful pirates and granting them legitimacy to pillage as long as they obey the government. Their heinous acts are tolerated."
Rogers shook his head. "That's outrageous!"
Bruce Wayne muttered, "Expanding combat power shouldn't look like this!"
Nick Fury smirked, "Hey, even I know this kind of thing can't be made public."
Akainu dismissed, "Who cares what you think? Pirates aren't trustworthy, but as pawns, they're useful. Their actions are a necessary sacrifice for peace."
Diana shot back, "That kind of thinking makes you no different from villains!"
Akainu replied coolly, "Think what you want."
Aokiji sighed, "Akainu, maybe you should just stop talking."
Orochimaru laughed, "Hahaha! I actually like people like Akainu. At least they're upfront about their thoughts, unlike hypocrites!"
Bruce Wayne frowned, "I just wonder if this Pandora's Box team, centered around SCPs, will be reckless, disregarding human lives to achieve containment at any cost."
Whitebeard rumbled, "We'll see soon enough. But I'm more curious about Cain. What are his abilities?"
The mention of Cain shifted everyone's focus back to the screen.
"The first candidate for Pandora's Box was naturally Abel. The second was Abel's brother, Cain."
The screen transitioned into an explanation about Cain.
"Although Abel and Cain are brothers, their personalities are polar opposites. If Abel is a deranged killer, Cain is remarkably quiet and composed."
The screen displayed a photo of Cain.
"Cain is a reserved and introverted individual with exceptional intelligence and photographic memory, making him a master of numerous fields."
"Most importantly, Cain is cooperative with the Foundation, requiring minimal supervision or special containment protocols. His intelligence also makes him the second containment object, after Plague Doctor, to actively collaborate with the Foundation on research."
"However, Cain possesses a terrifying anomalous ability: he is the nemesis of all soil-dependent life. Within a 20-meter radius of Cain, any living organism reliant on soil, such as plants and earthworms, instantly withers and dies."
"Even objects made from such materials are affected. For instance, paper touched by Cain will immediately deteriorate and become unusable."
"As such, Cain's living conditions must be completely free of soil-based components. His research is conducted digitally, and his diet consists only of meat and fish, with no ties to soil-based ecosystems."
Regulus gasped, "No way! He can destroy soil-dependent life? That means he can't even approach nature!"
Natasha added, "If Cain were to wander into a forest, the damage could be catastrophic."
Tony Stark warned, "That would indeed be disastrous. Humanity relies on trees for oxygen production. If Cain poses a destructive threat to nature, it could lead to a global oxygen crisis!"
Bruce Wayne noted grimly, "Not to mention, he could devastate crops. If someone weaponized Cain by placing him in a nation's key agricultural areas, it would trigger a severe food crisis."
Dan commented, "In that sense, Cain's danger surpasses Abel's. While Abel's destruction is localized, Cain is a walking strategic weapon capable of widespread devastation."
Tony Stark agreed, "True, but I'm also curious about his research with the Foundation. What kind of results would such collaboration yield?"
Rogers sighed, "Who knows?"
"Cain's abilities don't end there. He also possesses the power to reflect all damage inflicted upon him."
The screen showed a video demonstration.
In the video, Cain stood at the base of a mountain, over which a precarious boulder loomed. A task force member fired a rocket at the boulder, causing it to fall toward Cain.
However, when the boulder struck Cain, he remained unharmed, while the soldier who fired the rocket was crushed to death as if struck by the boulder himself.
"After extensive testing, the Foundation confirmed that any attempt to harm Cain, whether direct or indirect, results in the harm being reflected back on the instigator. This occurs even if the harm is unintentional."
"As such, all Foundation personnel are strictly prohibited from attempting to harm Cain in any way. Dedicated monitoring ensures no tragic incidents occur."
"Despite his terrifying abilities, many researchers continue to study Cain's reflective power, hoping to harness it. Unfortunately, most efforts have been futile. To gather more data, Cain has been involved in encounters with other SCPs, including one wielding an unstoppable blade."
