Marvel: I Evolved Into Superman on My Own

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Gerry's Plan

Late into the night.

Inside a gym filled with iron equipment, a figure sat on a bench, slowly swinging a dumbbell in his hand.

"Ah!"

He frowned, straining his arm to lift the dumbbell.

But a sharp pain shot through the bone that had just been reattached at the hospital.

"Hiss."

Whitney gasped, the pain preventing him from gripping the dumbbell tightly. With a loud clank, the dumbbell hit the floor with a dull thud.

"Shit!"

Whitney roared, standing up and angrily kicking the dumbbell away. Jino's cold face flashed through his mind, and his eyes filled with venom.

"Jino Luthor! I'm going to get my revenge!"

If it weren't for Jino, he would still be the football team captain, still the most popular guy on campus.

"Interesting."

A cold voice rang out behind him, startling Whitney. He shivered, his gaze falling on the transparent glass.

He saw a man in a black jacket standing behind him, arms crossed.

"G-Gerry?"

Whitney was surprised by Gerry's change. The previously short and ugly boy had not only grown taller, but his face had also become smooth and soft.

But then, he remembered the news that had spread throughout the town that afternoon: Mrs. Ted had been murdered, and the killer seemed to be her son, Gerry.

He was with a murderer!

"W-What do you want?"

His body trembled uncontrollably, his teeth chattered, and fear sprouted in his heart, as if countless specters surrounded him, chilling the air in the room by several degrees.

Gerry waved his hand. "Heh heh, don't be nervous, Whitney."

He licked his lips. "I was going to eat you to recover my strength, but I changed my mind."

"You hate Jino, I hate him too. We're friends."

As he spoke, Gerry made himself at home, opening Whitney's refrigerator and grabbing raw beef, stuffing it into his mouth to chew and swallow.

Whitney also hated Jino, which made Gerry decide to spare Whitney.

After eating his fill, Gerry wiped the raw meat bits from the corners of his mouth.

"What happened tonight, I hope you take it to your grave."

Threatening Whitney with a cruel look, Gerry slowly pushed open the window.

"Wait a minute!" Whitney gritted his teeth, forcing back his fear. "You said you hate Jino, so what about Clark?"

Gerry frowned slightly, his neck rotating a horrifying 180 degrees as he turned his head to stare at Whitney. Under the other's terrified gaze, he said eerily, "I hate him too."

As a love rival, how could Gerry not see the affection Clark had for Lana Lang in his eyes? But Lana Lang was his, and any man who dared to covet Lana Lang must die!

"Alright then, I can help you." Whitney's gaze gradually firmed.

"Help me?"

Gerry scoffed, looking Whitney up and down as if he were an unspeakable piece of trash.

"Wait, I know Clark's weakness!" Whitney saw the contempt in Gerry's heart, but he still endured the humiliation and said, "My ex-girlfriend used to have a necklace."

"Shut up!" Gerry frowned, extending his arm and pointing at Whitney. "Call her by her name!"

Whitney gritted his teeth. "Alright, Lana Lang used to have an Emerald Necklace that she wore all the time. I noticed that whenever Lana Lang got close to Clark, his face would turn incredibly pale."

"It seemed," Whitney recalled every time Lana Lang approached Clark, "it seemed like every time Clark got close to Lana Lang, he would become very weak."

"Until this morning, when Lana Lang and I broke up, she met Clark, but Clark wasn't affected at all."

"And that day, Lana Lang happened to lose her necklace."

Whitney presented his deduction, and it was logically sound.

Listening to Whitney's explanation, Gerry raised an eyebrow. He recalled his daily observations of Lana Lang; it seemed that whenever Lana Lang wore that necklace and got close, Clark would become weak.

Considering how Jino had brutally beaten him tonight, and how Clark had been able to take a punch from Jino, it meant that Clark was also not an ordinary person.

As he thought, a malicious plan brewed in Gerry's mind.

A cruel smile played on the corners of his mouth. Gerry stared at Whitney and said, "Describe what that necklace looked like in detail."

Whitney pondered for a moment. "Lana Lang said that the necklace was a memento left to her by her family. Every night, it would emit a dazzling green light. It looked like agate, or perhaps jade, a very peculiar kind of stone."

As Whitney's description became clearer, Gerry couldn't help but smile. He thought of the similar stone he had in the glass box where he cultivated his insects.

"I understand." Gerry roughly interrupted Whitney, then lightly leaped out the window and disappeared into the night.

Run, run madly.

The road beneath his feet, the trees around him, the air beside him.

Everything rushed past him at an incredible speed.

The wind whipped at his short sleeves, producing a loud flapping sound as Clark constantly swung his arms, tearing through the air like a bullet in the dark of night.

Clark ran aimlessly.

His eyes were unfocused, memories flashing through his mind.

Jino's anger, Lana Lang's disappointment, Gerry's ridicule, his father's teachings.

"I'm such an idiot!"

Suddenly, Clark stopped, his body's inertia carrying a gust of wind that rustled the leaves of a distant tree.

"Ah!"

Clark raised his fist and punched the tree trunk hard.

Thump!

The terrifying force instantly shattered the tree trunk, sending wood chips flying.

Clark wildly pounded his fists against the broken tree.

"What should I do? What's the right thing?"

His father told him to be a kind person, to respect life, and to protect the weak.

But Jino told him to be ruthless with enemies, to cut them down completely.

The clash of these two different ideologies filled Clark's naive heart with confusion.

He could only vent this anger on himself. He had said, "I'll handle it myself," but deep down, he had no idea how to investigate Gerry's whereabouts, let alone catch him.

So, Clark could only blame himself for not being decisive or smart enough.

Wham wham wham!

His fists pounded the tree trunk with a sound like distant thunder, echoing far and wide through the air.

Until the poor tree could no longer withstand the Kryptonian's furious blows, quickly turning into a pile of shattered wood chips that were then blown away by the gentle breeze.

"Hoo… hoo…"

Clark lowered his fists, closing his eyes and breathing heavily.

"Feeling terrible?"

A voice sounded from behind him.

Clark's eyes narrowed. Without turning his head, he grabbed a tree trunk and hurled it violently behind him.

Clark turned around, coldly staring at Gerry's flickering silhouette in the moonlight.

"Murderer, how dare you show your face to me?"

"Because I missed you, of course, Clark."

Gerry's waist twisted and contorted at an exaggerated angle, allowing his upper body to dodge the wooden splinter that came at him like a javelin. A wicked smile on his face, he then pulled out a few glowing green stones from his pocket.

"I'm sure you'll love the little gift I brought you."
