Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Waiting for the Rabbit by the Stump
News of Mrs. Ted's death spread like wildfire, taking only a few hours to reach every corner of the small town.
In such an ordinary and remote town, even the slightest triviality could spread at an astonishing speed, let alone a shocking event like Mrs. Ted's suspected murder.
However, much like certain other departments, the town police, who had searched the house and found several mummified bodies, were incapable of handling such bizarre circumstances. So, the authorities chose to suppress the information while simultaneously requesting support from their superiors.
The town's usual tranquility was shattered; everything seemed to be in chaos.
Meanwhile, in Lana's room.
The curtains were drawn, shielding the room's interior from outside view.
Clark perched carefully on the edge of Lana's bed, subtly surveying his goddess's boudoir. Although he had once committed the embarrassing act of peeking at his goddess through a telescope, Clark was a man of principles; as soon as Lana entered the room, he would stop looking.
Thus, this was Clark's first time seeing Lana's boudoir.
"Want something to eat?"
Lana walked in carrying a tray with some washed fruit, shrugging with a smile. "I baked some pizza myself, but it won't be ready for a while."
"Thanks." Clark primly accepted an apple, then looked curiously at Jino, who was sitting in a chair in the corner. "Not hungry?"
"Not hungry," Jino replied, shaking his head and closing his eyes to rest. He suspected that Gerry had likely also mutated due to Kryptonite's influence.
Lana set down the tray, her expression full of gratitude. "Thank you for being willing to stay with me."
Her gaze lingered mostly on Jino, as it was Jino who had suggested the plan of guarding her home.
Lana even felt a pang of shame. She shouldn't have been hostile towards Jino earlier; he was a good person.
"Alright, you should get into bed." Jino gave a slight nod, glancing at the clock on the wall, which displayed the time "24:00."
"You'll be watching over me, right?" Lana clutched the hem of her clothes, a little nervous.
"Of course, we'll be observing from outside," Clark said, standing up with Jino, not forgetting to reassure Lana.
Thump.
Someone turned off the light before leaving, and the brightly lit room gradually became engulfed in darkness.
Lana lay on the bed as Jino had instructed, slowly closing her eyes.
The girl's eyelids trembled; clearly, the day's events had left her on edge, especially when she heard Jino explain that Gerry would likely come for her. This heightened Lana's fear even more.
Lana tossed and turned on the bed, everything that happened today replaying in her mind like a movie reel.
"Rustle, rustle~"
A sound came from outside the window, like the night wind rustling leaves against the glass.
Lana's body tensed; she found her breathing quickening.
Is that thing here?
"Tap, tap, tap~"
Something seemed to be tapping on the glass, the sound growing more urgent, scaring Lana into clutching the thin blanket tightly, wanting only to pull it over her face and bury her head like an ostrich in the sand.
But the sound didn't stop.
In the silent night, within the darkness of the room, the sound gradually subsided.
However, this eerie quiet made Lana's heart pound even faster, leaving her with a dry throat.
After a brief silence, "Creek, creek~"
The sound started again, but unlike before, this time it was as if something was cutting the glass, producing a grating noise.
Splat!
It seemed something had entered the room; a foul, putrid, muddy stench permeated the air.
"Lana." Gerry's slightly low voice rang out.
The figure stared intently at Lana, stepping closer to her while saying, "I'm here to take you away, to be my bride."
The figure came closer and closer, so much so that Lana could distinctly hear his heavy breathing.
Just as the girl was about to scream, Click!
The light turned on, dispelling the darkness in the room and illuminating the scene.
A young man in an unconventional black jacket, with a slicked-back black hairstyle, looked like a ruffian as he reached out his pale arm towards Lana.
However, the sudden bright light made him instinctively raise his arm to shield his eyes.
Suppressing his discomfort, Gerry stared coldly at the two figures standing outside the door. Then, his eyes turned incredibly grim. "Why are you two here?"
Especially in Lana's room—this made Gerry involuntarily recall the threesome scenes he'd seen in certain sordid films.
As the image of his goddess in various positions, being played with, flashed through his mind, his face, twisted by anger, gradually became hideous.
"Gerry Ted, is it?"
Jino didn't answer Gerry's question. He stared intently at Gerry, an expression of deep thought on his face.
Compared to his previous disheveled appearance, this guy was not only taller but also looked somewhat different; at the very least, the acne on his face was gone.
Jino's lips curled into a sarcastic smile. "Does your mom's flesh taste good?"
Gerry was slightly stunned when he heard Jino's words.
Then, the young man's mouth stretched into a grin, revealing white teeth, and he laughed, "To be honest, it tastes pretty good."
It seemed these people had been to his home and discovered his secret.
So, they had to die even more.
Having made up his mind, Gerry stretched out his hands. His normally human arms gradually twisted and deformed, and soon they transformed into a pair of sharp scythes, similar to the limbs of a mantis.
"And from what you said, I'm a bit hungry. You two are quite tall, perfect for my next meal."
Before he finished speaking, Gerry opened his mouth and let out a strange shriek. Then, he pushed off with his legs, creating a wave of air as he leaped, raising his sharp Mantis Blades to strike at their necks.
He would sever their necks, suck their blood, taste their flesh, and then take his bride.
At that moment, Gerry's figure darted towards the two like an afterimage in mid-air.
Five meters, four meters, three meters—the distance grew shorter and shorter. A hint of excitement even appeared on Gerry's face.
He seemed to already see two headless corpses.
The distance between them grew closer and closer, and then, Gerry saw a terrifying sight.
Jino's sapphire-blue eyes were following his movements. Could his gaze actually keep up with his speed?
Gerry was bewildered, but before his brain, full of yellow waste, could figure out the connection, Jino made his move the next second.
"Why do you think you can kill me?"
The young man's tone was calm, but his raised right hand was anything but slow, precisely gripping Gerry's scythe-like arms.
"Bang!"
A swift and clean over-the-shoulder throw sent Gerry's body crashing into the floor. The terrifying force shattered the floor, and Clark, unable to keep his footing, fell with Jino and Gerry into the living room on the first floor.
"Th-this is impossible!" Gerry grimaced in pain, his arms firmly locked by Jino, as he looked up in terror at that calm face.
"Nothing is impossible."
Jino shook his head, exerted force with his right hand, and lifted Gerry again, slamming him hard onto the floor.
"Boom boom boom!"
Continuous left and right slams easily shattered the floor. Accompanied by Lana's screams, a dazed Gerry contributed to the "Hulk slamming the Second Prince of Asgard" internet meme.
