"Ahhh!"
With a roar of fury, a man with long golden hair tore through S.H.I.E.L.D. agents one by one, fighting his way to the center of the base.
But when he finally reached the center and ripped away the plastic curtain in front of him with excitement, the joy on his face vanished instantly. He froze in place.
Before him stood a man in black-rimmed glasses, casually twirling his Mjölnir in one hand. Beside him, a woman stared in shock.
"You! Mjölnir! How is this possible?!"
Thor shouted in disbelief, striding toward Clark in anger. "Give it back to me!"
Clark blinked, calmly set the hammer down, and gently pulled Lois to the side.
Thor shot Clark a cold glare, then looked confidently at the hammer on the ground. "This is not something a mere mortal like you should be touching!"
Rain drenched Clark's clothes. He adjusted his glasses and subtly moved in front of Lois, shielding her with his body.
Lois smiled faintly at Clark's back and stood on her tiptoes, peeking curiously over his shoulder at the scene.
Crashhh—
The rain intensified.
Thor gripped Mjölnir and yanked with force.
His expression instantly changed. The confident smile on his face disappeared without a trace.
Impossible!
He was stunned, then grabbed it with both hands and used all his strength.
Still, the hammer didn't budge. It might as well have been part of the mountain.
Thor had never imagined Mjölnir could be this heavy.
"Ahhh!"
He roared again, his face twisted in frustration as he exerted every ounce of his strength.
But no matter how hard he tried, the hammer didn't move an inch.
"No!"
He cried out in despair, then turned sharply toward Clark, his voice filled with disbelief. "How did you lift it?! How could you?! Why?! Why?!"
Clark adjusted his glasses. "I just picked it up. Was it supposed to be heavy?"
He genuinely hadn't used much strength.
"Why? How is this possible..."
Thor muttered, his voice low and hollow. He dropped to his knees in front of the hammer, as if his soul had left his body.
High above the base, watching everything unfold, Coulson spoke in a flat voice, "Someone take him away."
He had expected something dramatic when that man broke into the base.
But...
His gaze shifted to Clark below, and he couldn't help but sigh.
The unbelievable thing had happened—but not with Thor. It had happened with Clark.
"Coulson, did you see that? The guy you brought in lifted that hammer."
Hawkeye Barton was visibly astonished.
"I saw it," Coulson replied quietly. Then he added, "This stays classified. Did anyone else see it?"
Barton shook his head. "Shouldn't have. Everyone else was chasing the blond guy."
"Good."
"So... who is this guy with the glasses?"
Barton couldn't help but ask. He didn't believe for a second that this man was just some ordinary reporter.
He wasn't usually curious, but the fact that Clark lifted a hammer even he couldn't move—it was enough to make anyone ask questions.
"If you really want to know, ask the Director," Coulson said. "All I can tell you is, he's not our enemy."
Barton chuckled and said no more.
Ask Nick Fury?
What a joke.
He'd have better luck getting answers from a dog.
Coulson descended the platform and, upon passing Clark, gave him a pat on the shoulder. "Wait for me in that room from earlier."
Clark nodded and quickly left with Lois.
Inside the temporary interrogation room, Coulson sat down across from the man and began the questioning.
Meanwhile, a visibly excited Lois followed Clark back to the previous room and couldn't help but exclaim.
"Clark, how did you do that?"
She examined him with wide eyes, full of curiosity.
Clark looked just as puzzled. "I don't know. I just picked it up. Maybe I'm just stronger than you?"
Lois shook her head.
That definitely wasn't the reason. Plenty of people had tried before.
But judging by Clark's expression, he really didn't seem to know why it happened.
...
At this point, sticking around any longer just didn't seem appropriate. After all, their goal in coming here had already been achieved.
They couldn't publish any of what they'd seen as a news story, but at least their curiosity had been satisfied.
Still, the thought of their round-trip airfare—paid for with company funds—lingered in their minds. Hopefully, the editor-in-chief would approve the reimbursement, even though they didn't exactly come back with a headline scoop.
With their cameras packed up, the two of them began heading out of the base.
They had rented a car upon arrival, which they'd parked not far from the base during their sneaky entrance. But when they returned, they were surprised to find a small, unfamiliar RV parked right next to their vehicle.
Just as they were wondering about it, a man stepped out of the RV.
It was the same man who had stormed the base earlier.
Coulson let him go?
Clark's thoughts flashed rapidly. The man was already walking toward them.
He didn't look angry anymore—calm, even—but Clark instinctively stepped in front of Lois.
Lois blinked, then smiled faintly at the familiar view of Clark's back in front of her.
How many times has he done this now? she wondered.
Thor stopped two steps away from Clark and forced a strained smile. "Can we talk? Just the two of us? I... I really need your help."
He had never had to ask someone for help like this before. But this was his only hope of getting home.
Clark hesitated for a moment, then nodded and gestured toward the side. He began walking, and Thor followed with a relieved sigh.
Lois watched the two men walk off, whispering to each other, her curiosity bubbling—but she kept it in check and walked over to the nearby vehicle.
"Hi!"
Two women stepped out of the RV and greeted her.
"Hello, I'm Jane. This is Daisy."
Lois nodded. "Lois."
Jane glanced at Thor and Clark, then leaned in and lowered her voice. "So... I heard from Thor your boyfriend lifted the hammer?"
"He did lift it. But he's not my boyfriend," Lois clarified, eyeing Jane's reaction. Then she suddenly asked, "You know something, don't you?"
Jane gave a small smile. "Only some unconfirmed theories."
Lois's eyes lit up. "Then... how about we talk? About that hammer."
Jane considered it for a moment, then nodded.
She was curious about the hammer too—especially now.
A hammer that might be Mjölnir? A man who fell from the sky? A weapon that no one else could lift... except for this man named Clark?
As they chatted, they found themselves increasingly in sync, their theories bouncing back and forth, getting wilder and more compelling by the minute.
Nearby, Daisy shook her head at the two nerding out and turned to the older man next to her. "Dr. Selvig, what do you make of all this?"
Dr. Erik Selvig smacked his lips and muttered, "I'm not thinking anything. I just want a beer."
He'd just gotten through a nerve-wracking conversation with Coulson, spinning lies left and right. Now his throat was dry, and his nerves were fried.
Daisy's eyes lit up. "That's a great idea. Let's go!"
"Hey Jane, how about a drink?" Daisy called out.
Jane looked at Daisy, then at Lois. The two women exchanged a glance and nodded in perfect sync. Together, they leaned out the RV door and called:
"Hey boys, want to go grab a drink?"
Thor and Clark turned at the same time.
"Sure!"
