Chapter 170: Chapter 170 : Loki, the God of Stories
In the morning, Alex Ray got up from bed with a frown—he'd had another strange dream.
"Was that Loki, the God of Stories?" he muttered uncertainly.
In the dream, Alex had found himself in a void, surrounded by thick fog.
He cautiously advanced through what seemed to be a cave. As he moved forward, the fog thinned and the surroundings became clearer.
From every direction, branches stretched out, densely woven throughout the entire space. They resembled a massive forest—or countless tentacles probing into an unknown expanse.
Within this space, Alex saw numerous cosmic bubbles of varying sizes.
Each bubble existed independently, with disasters and miracles unfolding inside.
In some, stars blazed bright, galaxies crisscrossing in intricate patterns; in others, darkness consumed all light.
All of these cosmic bubbles, without exception, were connected to a colossal tree that spanned the sky and earth.
Alex ventured deeper until, after a long and arduous trek, he reached the end of the mysterious space.
There, a thin figure sat upon a golden throne.
Though the figure's power was restrained, it radiated an undeniable presence.
Green branches wrapped around him like the trunk of a tree.
Just as Alex was about to approach, he suddenly awoke—with one sentence echoing in his mind: "We will meet soon, Alex Ray."
He was certain it hadn't been a simple dream—and just as certain that the one on the throne had been Loki.
That tree was the World Tree.
Also known as the Multiverse Tree.
Alex's eyes snapped open, pupils contracting.
His mind flooded with thoughts.
He realized the branches were timelines, and the space he had seen was likely the end of time.
Loki's voice echoed again: "We will meet again."
Alex frowned. What had Loki meant by that? Was it a warning? A summons?
He believed the God of Stories had sought him out for a reason—either to deliver a message, or to ask for help.
Alex understood Loki's predicament. If he ever left the throne, the entire multiverse would collapse. All timelines, all realities—gone. Formatted to zero.
Not even Loki, who wielded control over time and reality itself, could afford that outcome.
Despite being the most powerful being Alex had ever seen, Loki's power came at a cost: crushing loneliness and eternal restraint.
"So... even the God of Stories may not be able to avert the future crisis. Am I supposed to step in?" Alex's heart tightened.
He considered the possibilities. Maybe the threat was Kang—the last man standing. Or maybe Loki wanted him to save his mother.
Then it hit him: the chaotic timeline of this world. The Time Variance Authority hadn't intervened.
Now it all made sense.
It was Loki.
Which meant, sooner or later, Alex would be facing the full might of the Kang Dynasty.
And he knew all too well—his current strength wasn't enough to defeat Kang the Conqueror.
Alex rubbed his temples. What were the so-called superheroes of the main universe doing? Based on the films he remembered before he arrived in this world, the God of Stories had already appeared. The multiverse saga should be underway. Was it the Women's Avengers now? Were they not training hard enough?
Were those heroines failing to stop Kang, forcing Loki to reach out to him instead?
Alex just wanted a peaceful life. First Earth's street wars, now multiversal threats? Why was he always the one stuck fighting everyone?
He just wanted to return to his previous world. The Marvel Universe was exhausting.
Why had Loki chosen him?
Before becoming the God of Stories, Loki was the God of Trickery. Could there be a hidden agenda?
Alex frowned deeper. What if Loki intended to manipulate or betray him?
He began thinking of beings capable of defeating Loki.
Maybe the Living Tribunal or Eternity. But those entities were notoriously elusive. Finding them? Nearly impossible.
Death? There was a chance. Maybe have Deadpool charm her. But Alex immediately shook his head. That was way too unstable—if they ended up provoking another Emperor Thanos, not just Alex but the entire universe would be screwed.
After thinking through all the options, Alex circled back to the power he could actually pursue—one potentially rivaling the God of Stories: blackened versions of Wanda or Doctor Strange.
But that would mean pushing his friends into darkness.
He couldn't allow that.
Alex sighed to himself. "Figures... the dark side is ten times stronger, and the light side just three times."
He shook his head and thought: Forget it. That's all for the future. Maybe Loki won't even need someone like me.
Alex closed his eyes, trying to organize his thoughts.
Then he stood, walked over to the sink, and washed his hands thoroughly.
He needed more power. Luck, and maybe the lottery, could help with that.
Only by growing stronger himself could he protect those around him—and lift them up as well.
"System, check my friend points."
"The host currently has more than 900 friend points. Would you like to exchange them for family points?"
Alex blinked in surprise. He hadn't expected that much gain this time. While he had only gained one new family member—Magneto—he had also made a lot of connections, especially with mutants like Wolverine, Storm, and Jean Grey.
He checked again and confirmed he had three family points so far, gifted by Magneto, the Punisher, and Blind Matthew.
"Exchange for seven family points," Alex said silently in his heart.
He didn't want to use them all. Some friend points needed to be reserved for upgrading the home base. After all, his circle was growing.
"Ten consecutive draws," he said next.
Alex looked forward to the surprises this lottery would bring.
Alex was eagerly anticipating a surprise from this lottery draw!
