Chapter 149: Chapter 149 : Captain Marvel Dies!
Alex Ray, who should have arrived at the scene the fastest, was stopped by Carol.
As for where Ikaris of the Eternals went, he was, of course, preparing to escape.
Ikaris slowly stood up, dragging severely injured body.
He was terrified at this moment. He had never expected that Alex Ray's strength was so overwhelming.
In all the long years he had spent on Earth as an Eternal, he had never encountered such a formidable opponent.
He even felt that Alex Ray's power rivaled that of the members of the Celestial group.
This realization filled him with despair because if he continued fighting, he might die right here.
Ikaris had only one thought: escape.
He felt that he should never have gotten involved in this war—the cruelty of it far beyond anything he had imagined.
He vowed never to return to Hell's Kitchen again in his life, for this place was filled with horror and death.
As the people of Hell's Kitchen gradually unleashed their true strength, powerful auras spread throughout the neighborhood.
Ikaris could sense at least three individuals here whose power matched his own, or perhaps even surpassed it.
And the Alex Ray who had fought him was an outright monster.
"Monster!" The word involuntarily flashed through Ikaris' mind.
He once believed no one on this planet could match him. But now, all he wanted was to escape this hellhole as soon as possible.
Alex Ray looked at Ikaris fleeing, a sneer curling his lips. "Come as you please, leave as you please. Do you really think this is charity?"
Alex raised a finger slightly, and a flash of light tore through the air, shooting toward Ikaris.
The speed of this beam was so fast it seemed as if time itself had frozen.
Ikaris' face turned pale in an instant. He twisted his body in an unnatural arc through the air, barely avoiding the fatal strike.
Yet fate was not on his side.
While dodging, a tremendous force tore through his body—one arm was ripped off and flew through the air, blood staining his clothes.
This agony and despair only strengthened his resolve to escape.
He knew he could no longer fight here.
Everyone around was terrifyingly powerful.
Without looking back, his body turned into a streak of light, shooting into the distant sky, leaving behind only Alex Ray's cold gaze and the lingering smoke of gunfire across Hell's Kitchen.
Alex Ray stared in the direction Ikaris had fled, dissatisfaction flickering in his eyes. "A pity he escaped alive."
He curled his lips, clearly displeased.
Then his gaze shifted to Carol beside him, eyes filled with icy determination.
He glanced briefly at Wanda, locked in a fierce battle with the Dark Phoenix, then turned back to Carol.
"Your lover has already escaped. If you still want to stop me, then prepare to die." Alex's words were cold, merciless—like the true lord of hell himself.
His words cut through Carol's heart like a freezing blade, sending a shiver down her spine.
Alex Ray was no longer merciful. He needed to eliminate Captain Marvel, who blocked his path, immediately.
He was fed up with Carol always acting so condescendingly.
If Alex hadn't wanted to temper Hell's Kitchen's residents and show them some blood, Captain Marvel would have died long ago.
To Alex, Captain Marvel was just an ordinary person granted power by cosmic artifacts. She was naive and loved to play the hero.
Plainly put, she was just a woman who kept shouting about her so-called justice.
Then acted all high and mighty in a pretentious tone every day.
Alex Ray had never hated a Marvel superhero more.
He thought to himself, this Captain Marvel goes around upholding justice in the universe daily—but her own planet was stolen by Thanos, and still, here she was, preaching justice!
With that in mind, Alex unleashed his full strength against the incomprehensible Captain Marvel.
Before Carol's disbelieving eyes, Alex Ray successfully killed her.
Carol never understood why she had to die here, not until her last breath.
She was only carrying out the justice in her heart, so why did she encounter such a powerful adversary?
She couldn't believe Alex Ray would actually kill her!
She couldn't understand why someone as capable as Alex chose to live in this tiny Hell's Kitchen!
This world was so unfair. How could such an evil person have so much power—and not use it to protect the universe's safety?
Her heart was filled with doubt and resentment, but it was all irreversible.
She fell to the ground, closed her eyes quietly, and ended her journey in this world.
Alex Ray looked at Carol's body falling from the sky, barely stirred.
He glanced at her indifferently before turning and walking away.
To him, Carol was just a minor obstacle on his path—not worth his attention.
His focus shifted back to the battle between Wanda and the Dark Phoenix.
Seeing Wanda gradually losing ground, he knew he had to stop this out-of-control Phoenix as soon as possible.
Flying high above, Alex Ray looked down at Hell's Kitchen. The neighborhood resembled a devastated battlefield, ruins and smoke everywhere.
His heart was heavy with helplessness. After the war, they would face a long and arduous task of reconstruction.
He sighed helplessly, knowing they'd need to spend significant time and effort repairing the city's trauma.
"When the time comes, we'll have to get Tony to foot the bill, and those federal guys will have to compensate us for the mental damage," Alex muttered.
He really didn't understand why so many disasters had befallen Hell's Kitchen since he took over.
He thought he was law-abiding, never provoking others, always happy to make friends—a model citizen for this free country.
Alex Ray was a good man. So why was he bullied every day?
Watching all this from the temporary S.H.I.E.L.D. base, Nick Fury stared at the screens in disbelief.
His ace, Captain Marvel Carol, was dead!
This meant his plan had failed!
Hell's Kitchen was about to win!
The Avengers alliance he'd worked so hard to build was on the verge of collapse!
He already regretted targeting Alex Ray and Hell's Kitchen.
He'd clearly underestimated Hell's Kitchen and Alex Ray time and time again—but every time, Alex shattered his assumptions.
This Alex Ray was terrifying!
This time, Fury had lost both his key player and the army.
He knew he'd face endless trouble and accusations from countless federal politicians.
To gain their support, he'd promised them countless favors, but now he could only watch his plan unravel.
Sure enough, in the next moment, Fury's phone at the temporary base was bombarded with calls from federal officials—questions and accusations piled on, overwhelming him.
What Fury didn't know was that in this battle, he not only lost Carol but might not survive himself.
What Fury failed to notice was a man with a purple aura slowly approaching the temporary base...
