Chapter 38 – Memory Capsule
[The user has the option of purchasing a Memory Capsule for 1000 Card Points. This capsule will allow you to remember everything related to a specific theme for a period of 24 hours].
The proposition was clear, and I knew what to do.
'Buy Memory Capsule,' I thought.
The system promptly responded, and a strange sensation of warmth ran through my body, as if a file was being instantly uploaded to my mind. The sensation was similar to that of Lucas's memories from Earth-616 seeping into my mind.
[Memory capsule acquired. Remembering everything about Marvel Zombies Resurrection...]
My vision blurred for a moment and, as if someone were changing the channels on a television, I began to see flashes of memories. I saw heroes turned into monsters, the terror of a devastated Earth, Galactus, Peter Parker and, of course, the zombie Hulk, an unstoppable force that grew stronger the hungrier it got.
Every detail of this little comic book series was fresh in my mind, from the pages I had loved seeing as a fan to the nuances I had barely noticed at the time. Everything was etched into my memory with stunning clarity. Now I had information that could make a difference.
I looked at Deadpool, who was watching my change of expression with suspicion.
"Oh, boy, all that concentration is scary. You're not one of those evil geeks, are you?"
I laughed, relieved by his joke. "No, not at all. However, the plan I have in mind now will make me look like a villain... I think I know how we can take down the Zombie Hulk once and for all."
"Oh, I knew it! So, you're an evil genius! I knew it!" Deadpool exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air in an exaggerated manner, before crossing them again and adopting a more serious tone. "But I don't care about that. What's on your mind, kid? Tell me how a boy tells a policeman about the abuse he suffered from his three uncles. Shit, that brings back bad memories."
"Tell me, Deadpool, you've tried everything to take down the Hulk, right? But nothing worked because he simply regenerates, no matter how much you hurt him."
"Yeah, he's like a giant cockroach that keeps coming back. And frankly, even I'm running out of ideas here."
"He's strong, fast, and regenerates much faster than before, but you and I both know that what made the Hulk really scary was his stamina."
Deadpool arched an eyebrow, interested. "I'm listening, kid. Go on."
"I'm talking about continuous damage. The Zombie Hulk still has the healing factor of the normal Hulk, but he doesn't have the stamina of the Emerald Giant. Even the rusty knife I had with me when I found him managed to cut through his skin without any problems."
"Yes, I realized that when the bullets from my desert eagle destroyed what were supposed to be his balls. I was happy! But a second later, there they were again. And seriously, I think I saw his shorts regenerate too!"
"Back to the plan..."
"Ah, yes, yes! Keep going, evil genius."
"The Hulk is more fragile, but he's still the Hulk. If we try normal things, they won't be enough to kill him. What we really need is an almost infinite amount of a constant power so powerful that it can keep destroying the Hulk even while he regenerates. In this world, there are a few people capable of that, like Captain Marvel, with her powers, and maybe Ironman, but they've both been transformed."
"What? Fuck! This zombie virus is worse than the coronavirus!"
"So, Deadpool, our most realistic option is to go find Cyclops."
"Ah, good old Scott Summers. I miss that charismatic leader of the pack. But unfortunately, he became a zombie snack on the first day of this whole mess."
"All right, it doesn't matter if he's alive or not. His head can be found, and the mutant Forge can make it work. If he can create a weapon capable of firing Cyclops' power of destruction with enough intensity to cut through almost anything, that'll be enough."
It was a little difficult for me to explain the idea without giving away that I knew about the events in the comics.
"Wait a minute..." Deadpool interrupted me, pointing a finger at me. "Are you saying you want to use the head of one of the X-men's greatest characters even though he's dead? Isn't that a bit too disrespectful and unethical for a young guy like you?"
"Why? Do you have a problem with that?"
"Not really. It's going to be such a pleasure to do this. I'm pretty sure that bastard was one of the people who turned down my application to join the X-men. If we can get our hands on that bastard's head, we can..."
"... dig through the Hulk's brain with red kinetic energy."
Deadpool was silent for a moment, looking straight into my eyes. "That... would be beautiful. In a horribly macabre way, but beautiful."
"It's an audacious plan," said an authoritative voice behind me, and I turned around quickly.
There he was, the unwavering leader of this shelter. Steve Rogers, with his shield on his back, was looking at me and Deadpool with a serious face.
I swallowed because I was one of the targets of that serious look.
"Captain, have you come to give us your blessing for our diabolical plan?"
Steve ignored Deadpool and focused his gaze on me, analyzing me carefully. "Did I hear you correctly? You're suggesting using Scott's head as a weapon?" I didn't hesitate.
I didn't hesitate. "Yes, sir. I believe it's our best chance of stopping the zombie Hulk."
Steve crossed his arms, pondering what I had just said. He didn't know me and he didn't know where I came from, but this plan, however insane it seemed, had a logic that couldn't be ignored. He approached me, standing face to face with me, then let out a sigh and relaxed his shoulders.
"All right. I give my permission for you to try to carry out this plan. However, Lucas, please know that if this compromises the integrity of this shelter in any way, you and your girlfriend will have no room by my side."
"Understood, Captain. I expect nothing less."
