MARVEL: CARD EXTRACTION SYSTEM

Chapter 37 – Dynamic

Gwen and I were introduced to different groups at the shelter so that we could help with the tasks. He assigned me to set up a tent for Gwen and me, apparently Captain America and Deadpool thought we were boyfriend and girlfriend, while Gwen was told to help with dinner.

While I set up the tent, which even had a manual, I observed the dynamics of this 'refuge'. During this time, I was able to understand in parts how this place worked.

The shelter itself was a labyrinth of tunnels and sewer chambers. Some of the chambers, especially the larger ones, had defined functions. One was the supply room, another the weapons room, some larger dormitories, the bathroom and so on. In total, fifty-three survivors, not counting Gwen and me, lived in this place. Everyone had their own duties and responsibilities.

Some survivors worked in the main chamber, where they prepared soups to try to serve as many people as possible with two meals a day. Meanwhile, another group was responsible for setting rudimentary traps in the sewer tunnels, both to ward off intruders and to warn of any invasions.

I saw that there were traps with blades that descended to cut off the head of any human, there were also steel wires tied to tin boxes that, when they fell, made a noise so loud that it echoed through the tunnels, waking everyone up and alerting them.

Their work was meticulous and careful, because every detail made the difference between survival and death.

Although they had a relatively safe place and 'piped' water that they intercepted from the pipes in the tunnels, a small portion of the survivors had the thankless task of hunting rats through the tunnels, as these animals were the only living creatures they could hunt in that shelter.

Luckily, I wouldn't have to eat rat soup that day, because there were also some survivors who regularly came out of the sewers to look for supplies on the surface.

I was observing the shelter when this group returned and met Captain America inside a tent to report what they had found.

Obviously, Captain America was the central pillar of this place. I often saw him on the move, coordinating efforts and talking to different groups. It was clear that the pressure on him was immense. His blue and red uniform, although still imposing, was dirty and torn in several places.

"He's probably still wearing it to remind the others that there's a hero here... At least one..." I whispered to myself and my eyes turned to Deadpool's tent.

For the last hour, I had been watching him too. First, Deadpool closed his tent. When I approached out of curiosity, I realized that Deadpool was... masturbating.

Well, I tried to ignore what I'd heard, but his strange moans stayed in my mind for the next few minutes.

After a while, Deadpool opened the tent like Snow White opening the cabin doors to a new dawn. It even looked like birds were going to land on his shoulder. Deadpool then returned to the central part of the chamber and sat down at the dining table, where this time he busied himself with a magazine about big game hunting. He began to leaf through the magazine avidly. It was almost comical.

For the last fifteen minutes of watching him, I watched Deadpool obsessively stare at his own ass in the mirror as he moved and adjusted his uniform.

"It's not every day you get an ass as fantastic as that. Maybe I should start a fashion line, 'The Best of the Superhero Uniform'. I didn't make this one, but who cares about copyright in the post-apocalypse?" he said.

I couldn't help but laugh out loud. The situation was so strange to me that it was hard not to find it funny.

"I can hardly believe I have to become friends with him to complete a side mission," I thought out loud.

Tired of standing still, I decided it was time to try a new approach to my plans in this world.

"Hey, Deadpool." I approached, raising a hand towards the mercenary, who was still admiring his own ass.

"Oh, basement boy! How's the adaptation going? Oh, don't tell me you're leaving. Apart from the slurry dripping from the ceiling, this place isn't so bad."

"No, it's not about that. I couldn't help but notice the magazine you're reading about how to hunt large animals. Were you looking for any tips on dealing with the Hulk specifically?"

Deadpool seemed surprised by my deduction. He looked sideways and then slung an arm over my shoulders.

"Ah, boy! You figured that out, huh? You've got a sharp mind. You were the first one here to understand my main objective. Seriously, are you some kind of genius?"

I frowned. I was sure I wasn't the only one who had come to that conclusion.

"So you're really looking for ways to kill the zombie Hulk?"

"Yes, he's like the pink elephant sitting on the sofa in this town, and we're right under his stinking ass. He patrols the city 24 hours a day, and life here is hell because of it. If he dies, we could leave in greater numbers. We could try to look for supplies further afield and, who knows, maybe even get out of here."

"So, what are you thinking of doing? Do you have a plan?" I asked, now really interested.

I had been given a mission to kill a 'hero', and the Hulk was technically a hero, so I could take advantage of Deadpool's plans to try and complete this mission.

Deadpool took a step back and scratched the back of his head. "Well, my last plan was what you saw me doing earlier. I searched for days for a truck that still had flammable gas..."

"And why not fuel?" I interrupted, curious.

Deadpool let out a short but sincere laugh, before replying: "Isn't it obvious? Fuel would only make the fire last, but it wouldn't tickle that green giant. However, I thought that explosive gas might have a chance. I thought that if I could get the Hulk to inhale the gas before everything exploded, I could burn him inside and out at the same time. But... well, I don't think that was enough. It looks like I'm actually entering the Immortal Hulk."

"I don't think we should give up."

"What do you mean 'we'?"

"I want to help."

Deadpool stared at me. "Ah, kid, you don't have to worry about that. Go to Captain America and ask him to assign you some real work after you set up your tent. You seem smart. I'm sure he'll find something better for you to do."

I shook my head in denial. "No, I want to help you kill the Hulk."

Deadpool's eyes widened and, for the first time, he looked really surprised.

"You... want to help me kill the Hulk? Really? Holy shit! Who the fuck are you? I already think I'm crazy for trying this and I'm practically immortal!"

"I don't think you're crazy. However, we must form a solid plan with stages if we want this. Just give me a minute to think about it." I said.

Deadpool raised his hands and took a step back. "Think away, in the meantime I'm going to stand here on the side talking like a chatterbox because when I'm getting carried away, I don't know when to stop talking and I start sounding like one of those annoying teenagers who spend all day arguing about whether they like Edward from Twilight or Stefan from The Vampire Diaries better and..."

I intentionally ignored him and let him talk.

'System, unlike Earth-65, I remember almost nothing about the story of this world here. Is there any way you can help me remember everything that happened in the Marvel Zombies Resurrection comics?'

[The user has the option of purchasing a Memory Capsule for 1000 Card Points. This capsule will allow you to remember everything related to a specific theme for a period of 24 hours].
