Chapter 206: Chapter 206: Wanda

The person who appeared before him was none other than Wanda, whom he hadn't seen in a long time. Although Han Yu had been sending her living expenses, they hardly had any opportunities to chat. Han Yu was always busy, and so was Wanda.

Han Yu had once secretly visited Kamar-Taj, where the Ancient One and her magic apprentices resided. Afraid that his presence might distract her, he simply watched from a distance.

Wanda was incredibly studious. As soon as she arrived at Kamar-Taj, she buried herself in the library for days.

For most magic apprentices, certain advanced magical texts were considered extremely difficult to comprehend. However, Wanda managed to understand them in just half a day—and even successfully cast the spells within them.

It was important to note that these magical texts were written in obscure and ancient languages, many of which originated from foreign lands. This added an extra layer of difficulty for anyone attempting to read them.

To an ordinary person, opening one of these books was akin to a baby attending an elite university lecture—one that was taught in a completely foreign language.

This made studying these texts even more challenging. In truth, Wanda didn't exactly "read" the words; rather, she used her mind to comprehend them.

These books were crafted by great sorcerers of ancient times. Though written in ink, they were imbued with immense magical power. If a reader applied magic while reading, the process would become significantly more efficient.

For sorcerers who used this method, it was as if the original authors were personally teaching them—demonstrating spells right before their eyes. This was far more effective than trying to decipher the words alone.

There were fourteen advanced magic books in total. The Ancient One had only mastered six of them, yet the knowledge contained within those six was already enough to establish her as Earth's greatest sorcerer, capable of defending against magical invasions from beyond the planet.

Wanda, however, devoured nearly one book every half a day. The fourteen books weren't even enough to satisfy her curiosity.

While others were still figuring out how to use the Sling Ring to open a portal, Wanda was already deep into practicing the spells from advanced magic books.

Her serious and dedicated demeanor inevitably caught the attention of some of the men around her. Whenever they visited the library, they would always spot a beautiful woman sitting in the corner, flipping through the ancient tomes on the table.

Every now and then, she would tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear, revealing her delicate face—an image that never failed to turn heads.

One day, someone finally gathered the courage to approach her and strike up a conversation. Wanda's response, however, was completely unexpected.

"Do you know advanced mirror magic?"

"Do you understand how to use the Lock of Golmorna?"

"If you use bat blood to inscribe a reincarnation array during a full moon, do you realize it could result in vampiric transformation?"

Her rapid-fire questions left the man utterly speechless.

He had no clue what she was talking about. Every question she asked was from advanced magic texts—books he couldn't even read a single sentence from, let alone comprehend in full. These were thick tomes, stacked as high as a forearm.

Seeing the confused expressions on their faces, Wanda simply shook her head, sighed, and left them with a parting remark before returning to her book.

"If you don't know anything, why are you even trying to flirt with me? Do you think this is high school?"

Her words instantly deflated the men who had been hoping to approach her, giving them an overwhelming sense of being looked down upon—as if they had been transported back to their school days.

Surprisingly, after this incident spread throughout Kamar-Taj, Wanda didn't become an outcast. Instead, her popularity skyrocketed.

Her lack of interest in romance only added to the aura of aloofness around her, making her seem even more untouchable. However, this demeanor only applied when it came to matters of courtship. If someone approached her with a question about magic, she was incredibly patient and willing to explain everything in detail.

Her explanations were not only easy to understand but also delivered with great patience. Because of this, Wanda's popularity continued to rise.

Since most magic apprentices couldn't always approach the Ancient One with their questions, they turned to Wanda instead. After all, in terms of status, she wasn't any different from them—she was still just an apprentice herself.

Unconsciously, Wanda had taken on the role of a "senior sister" among them.

Han Yu, who had been observing all of this, couldn't help but feel speechless. Well, it seemed his worries had been unnecessary.

Seeing Wanda enjoying herself every day, even having people massage her shoulders—treatment that not even the Ancient One received—Han Yu finally relaxed.

Since she had adapted well to life at Kamar-Taj, he decided to leave. But just as he turned around, he suddenly noticed that the Ancient One was already standing behind him, floating in midair just like he was.

"So, you came to check on your girlfriend, but you're not planning to go down and see her?" The Ancient One teased with a light smile.

Han Yu glanced at her floating figure and noticed the faint golden glow emanating from her boots. It was likely those boots that allowed her to hover effortlessly.

He looked back down at Wanda, peering through the buildings to see her inside. Then, after a moment of thought, he shook his head and said, "No, if I show up now, I'll just disrupt her focus. She's finally found some peace to concentrate on her training—my presence might stir up emotions that could affect her state of mind."

Hearing this, it was the Ancient One's turn to be surprised. She had sensed Han Yu's arrival the moment he set foot in Kamar-Taj.

If it had been anyone else, she wouldn't have come out so casually. But since it was Han Yu, she had to intervene.

Her purpose in appearing was to stop him. After all, magic required an unwavering mind. Even the slightest distraction could lead to a loss of control, and in the worst case, falling into darkness.

If Wanda were only practicing lower- or mid-tier spells, the Ancient One wouldn't be so concerned. But the magic she was studying now came from advanced spellbooks—she needed complete concentration. Otherwise, instead of becoming the next Sorcerer Supreme, she might end up as a Dark Sorcerer.

That was why the Ancient One had planned to convince Han Yu not to see Wanda. Yet, he had already understood the situation himself, saving her the trouble of persuading him.

"Alright, let's go."

Han Yu took one last look at Wanda before finally making up his mind to turn away. With a parting word to the Ancient One, he left.

The Ancient One watched him go, then shifted her gaze back to the diligent Wanda below. She let out a soft sigh—both of them cared deeply for each other.

She descended to the ground and entered the library. Seeing Wanda surrounded by a group of apprentices, she hesitated for a moment, wanting to tell her that Han Yu had been there. But in the end, she remained silent.

Not far away, Wanda noticed the Ancient One. She glanced at her briefly, then suddenly lifted her head. Looking through the ceiling, her gaze landed precisely on the spot where Han Yu had stood moments ago. After a brief pause, she lowered her eyes and gave the Ancient One a small nod.

A faint, mesmerizing smile crept onto her lips. In a voice so soft that only she could hear, she whispered, "Han, don't worry. I won't let you down."

Because of Wanda, the library had become much more crowded with male apprentices. But surprisingly, quite a few female apprentices were also drawn there because of her.

When they saw that enchanting smile on Wanda's face—a smile capable of captivating anyone—they suddenly had a strange realization.

For some reason, they all felt that pursuing her was no longer an option.

That smile wasn't the kind one gave when reading something amusing in a book.

It was the kind of smile reserved for the person one loved.

At that moment, every heart in the library, regardless of gender, felt an unexpected chill.
