Chapter 16: Hammer's Downfall, Stark Expo's Chaos

The Stark Expo was a dazzling spectacle of flashing lights, booming music, and Tony Stark's ego, amplified by a thousand. It was also, Adam knew, about to become a war zone. Justin Hammer, in his desperate attempt to outshine Tony, had unleashed Vanko's drones, and the Iron Legion, now compromised, was turning on the crowd. Adam, positioned high above the chaos, felt a familiar thrill mixed with a professional assessment of the impending disaster.

"Alright, Hammer. You had your chance to be a legitimate, if annoying, businessman. But no, you had to go full supervillain wannabe. Now you get to experience the full force of my 'chaotic good' intervention. And trust me, it's going to be embarrassing."

Below, panic erupted. The Iron Legion drones, once symbols of peace, were now firing indiscriminately. Rhodey, in the War Machine suit, was trying to hold them off, but he was overwhelmed. Tony, battling his own demons and the last vestiges of palladium poisoning, was struggling.

"Skye, Jemma, I need real-time intel on those drones!" Adam barked into his comms. "Jemma, any weaknesses in Vanko's tech? Skye, can you get me a backdoor into Hammer's control systems? I need to shut these things down, or at least make them dance the Macarena."

"Working on it, Adam!" Jemma's voice was strained, but focused. "The energy signatures are fluctuating wildly! Vanko's control is… intermittent. There's a master frequency, but it's heavily encrypted!"

"Hammer's systems are a mess, boss!" Skye replied, her fingers flying. "It's like he built his network out of duct tape and bad intentions! But I'm in! I'm seeing a central override. Give me two minutes!"

"Two minutes is a lifetime in a robot apocalypse, Skye!" Adam muttered, activating his Levitation, gliding silently through the chaos, unseen. He saw a group of civilians trapped near a malfunctioning drone, its repulsor ray charging.

[Force Fields activated. Target: Civilians. Effect: Protective Barrier.]

A shimmering, invisible barrier flared around the terrified civilians, just as the drone unleashed a blast. The energy dissipated harmlessly against the shield. The civilians looked around, bewildered by their sudden salvation.

"You're welcome, folks," Adam thought, already moving.

He saw Hammer, looking triumphant and utterly oblivious to the impending disaster, still trying to impress the crowd. Adam decided to make his moment even worse.

He focused on the main screen behind Hammer, where his drones were supposed to be performing.

[Illusions & Holograms activated. Target: Optic Nerves. Effect: Embarrassing Dance Routine.]

Suddenly, the drones on the screen, instead of flying in formation, began to perform a synchronized, incredibly cheesy disco dance routine, complete with flashing lights and a phantom disco ball. The crowd, momentarily confused, then burst into laughter. Hammer, mid-sentence, froze, his jaw dropping.

"What?! No! This isn't… this isn't my programming!" Hammer shrieked, frantically gesturing at the screen.

"Oh, it's your programming, Hammer. Just with a little… artistic interpretation. You're welcome."

Tony, meanwhile, had finally gotten the new element from his father's research, and his arc reactor was glowing with renewed power. He was back in the fight, blasting drones left and right. Rhodey, now officially War Machine, joined him, a whirlwind of firepower.

"Adam, I'm in!" Skye yelled. "I've got the override! But Vanko's trying to fight me for control!"

"Jemma, any way to give Skye a boost? Or overload Vanko's signal?" Adam asked, dodging a rogue drone.

"If Skye can get to the master frequency, a focused Energy Blast from you could disrupt Vanko's control!" Jemma replied. "It would act as a massive EMP on his signal!"

"Got it," Adam said, a grin spreading across his face. He saw Vanko, still controlling the drones from his central console, a look of manic glee on his face.

Adam teleported to a position directly above Vanko's control booth, unseen. He focused, a surge of power building in his palms.

[Energy Blasts activated. Target: Vanko's Control Console. Effect: Signal Disruption.]

He unleashed a precise, invisible blast. It slammed into Vanko's console, not destroying it, but sending a massive, disruptive energy pulse through his control signal. Vanko roared in frustration as his drones sputtered, then went inert, crashing to the ground.

"No! My beautiful creations!" Vanko shrieked.

Tony and Rhodey, seeing the drones fall, looked at each other, bewildered. "Did you do that?" Tony asked.

"I don't know!" Rhodey replied. "But I'll take it!"

Adam watched as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents swarmed Vanko's booth, apprehending the furious villain. Hammer was being dragged away, still protesting the disco drones. The Expo was saved.

"Well, that was a blast," Adam muttered, teleporting away. "Time for Tony to finally get his act together. And for Fury to get another headache."
