Chapter 17: Scared

Lyanna

Lyanna? Can you hear me?

I squint my eyes, "Yes.. I have ears."

"Oh, she's awake! She's awake!"

The images of the wolf attacking me come flooding my head, and I snap my eyes open almost immediately.

I jerk up sitting on the bed, the sound of my heart thumping loudly filling the room.

 "Where am I?" I gasp.

"You're safe now. In your room?" I hear Irene's comforting voice, then she wraps her arms around me.

"But.. what about Riri?" I ask, my face buried in her neck.

"Mr. Reynolds took her to the hospital. She's under treatment now."

 Mr. Reynolds?

I slowly pull away from her, as my eyes fall on his tall muscular figure standing by the other side of my bed.

My face goes red, "What are you doing here?!" I yell at him, grabbing my pillow and throwing it at him.

"Lyanna! He saved your life!" Irene gasps, holding my arm.

"He's the reason a wolf would want to attack me! I have no business with a wolf who literally wanted to shove a chair up my ass!"

She sighs deeply, "Be grateful Lyanna. You would have died, had he not wrestled that rogue off."

"Your sharp mouth couldn't fight off a wolf, and here you're talking so rudely at me," his annoying voice fills my ears.

"I was doing just fine!" I grind my teeth, my chest clogging with rage. I feel as if I'm about to burst.

"You were not actually," she rubs my arm.

"Maybe I should have let it kill you, then I would have bathed in your blood. That sounds good?" A small smirk spreads across his face.

 This cruel jerk!

"Oh why didn't you then?" I snap back at him.

"Stop it you two! No one was going to die!" Irene immediately shuts the both of us with a stern look.

"Mr. Reynolds, that's not a nice way to talk to someone who just escaped a wolf attack."

"Then, you should ask her to stop being so snappy," he shoves his hands in his pockets, a grim look plastered on his face.

Irene stands up from the bed, "You both should sort out your differences, and please don't break each other's necks okay?"

"Where are you going? Please don't go!" A sense of dread fills my chest, panic surging my veins.

"Don't be a baby," she turns to give me a stern look, then walks out of my room, leaving us both.

I fold my arms across my chest, heaving heavily. I look away, desperate not to make eye contact with him.

"Don't you have something to say?"

I can hear his steps inching closer to my bed, his burning gaze piercing my neck.

"Thank you," I rush over my words.

"Tsk. Your pride won't get you anywhere princess," his expensive shoes click the floor, inching closer.

"I already said thank you. It's not as if –"

His hand grips my chin, snapping my head to the side to look at him.

His heated gaze makes my heart race, my stomach feeling all jittery looking into his grey eyes.

"You gave me a scare today, princess. Don't do that again," his face contorts.

I can feel my face paling as his face inches dangerously close to mine.

No– stupid butterflies, go back! You don't like this man!

My throat tightens, my throat aching with a breath I can't seem release.

A stupid flutter explodes at the pool of my belly. This is bad. Really bad.

"What are you talking about?" I sound as firm as I can.

"Well, I warned you," his grip tightens on my face, and he pulls my face closer to his.

"You're mated to a wolf. When will you understand that? You're emitting pheromones, I'm guessing yours was just too much to resist... It always has," his grip on my chin loosens a bit.

I swallow hard. My eyes involuntarily fall to his lips, those full kissable red lips– oh boy, this is too much.

I try to pull away from him before things escalate fast but he wraps a hand around my waist.

"You got me so worried. This is the reason I wanted to keep you close," he finally sits on my bed.

I squint my eyes at him, at that moment, his words sound like someone scraping metal against rusted iron.

"You hate me. Remember?"

He scoffs, "Yes. I do."

"So, what's the crap you're talking about?" I grimace, finally releasing my face from his grip.

"I want you to be safe. The fact I hate you doesn't mean I'd just leave you to die."

A warm, fuzzy feeling hovers just above my chest but I swallow down.

"Thank you very much for today. I owe you.. a lot," I twist my lips, looking away.

"You owe me your body," he clears his throat, standing up from my bed.

He wants us to sleep with him!

"What? Excuse me? What do you think I am? A slut?"

"You're my mate Lyanna. Keep it in your head," he growls, heading for the door.

"Take care of yourself, and quit that job first thing tomorrow morning. If you don't, I'll do it for you," he begins to walk towards the door.

This man is insane. So I'm supposed to live on moonlight and magic now?

I jump out of my bed, run up to him before he can reach the door.

"Oh, you're going nowhere," I pull him back, causing him to face me.

"What do you want?"

"Do you realize the world revolves around money? You're here telling me to quit my job as if you're providing me money?" I grip his collar, my face flushed with annoyance.

He just stares, his eyes half lidded, "Don't worry. You won't go broke," he pats my head.

"You stupid man. Just get your wolves away from me. I just want a normal life. I've already been through so much, and it hasn't even been up to two months I got here!"

"Come back, and be my secretary then?" His hand lingers on my head. Furthermore, his fingers entangle my hair strands.

My jaw slightly drops, "I don't understand you. Why are you doing all this for me if you hate me so much?"

His face remains blank, his fingers still entangling my hair, "Because I'm a good person. Nothing deep."

"You're a jerk. A big one," I mutter under my breath.

He intensifies the caressing on my hair, "Listen to me little faery. A part of you is no longer a faery anymore. You'd start feeling different, start acting different. That's why I have to–"

"Just reject me. Then all of this will end. I honestly don't want this anymore. I'm tired of all this drama."

He tilts his head, "I'm not rejecting you."

"Why? I want all of this to be over with!"

He chuckles, "Then let's make a deal then," lets go of my head.

"What is that?" I narrow my eyes.

"Be my fake girlfriend for a period of six months. With you, I can get an access back to my entitlements back home."

"But I was the reason you were banished in the first place?" I blink my eyes, confused at his demand.

"I'll take care of everything. Besides, you could use some money, and protection, right?"

"This is not right.." I back away.

"After the end of six months. I'll reject you, and it'll be over between us."

My heart leaps at his words.

Accepting his deal, wouldn't hurt so much, would it?

"Deal."
