Chapter 16: Don't die
Lucien
I look at my digital clock which is sitting on my desk.
5.15 PM.
She still didn't resume, regardless of the fact I walked to her apartment and asked her to come.
Sassy much?
It's been fucking two weeks!
Unfortunately, I just couldn't wait any longer. I needed a secretary, so another person applied.. a guy, who has been taking his duties just fine.
I don't understand why I'm being all worked up. I hate her, so why should I even worry?
I push the thoughts of her out of my head, and finally get to my feet.
For some reason, I feel so restless this evening. Maybe I'm just tired.
"Hey there, loser!" Kael barges into my office wearing that annoying smirk of his.
"What are you doing here?" I snort at him.
"Came to see if you were pining over the feary girl," he grins, plopping himself on the couch.
I clench my jaw, so I can stop myself from saying something nasty to him.
"If you don't have anything good to say, please leave. Don't worsen my mood."
"And what's got you in a bad mood, huh?"
I rest back in my chair, my heart slightly thumping, "I don't... I don't know."
"Get a hold of yourself man. You're obviously going crazy and you don't want to admit it."
A snarl escapes my lips, "Kael, I'm dead serious. If you don't leave, I'm actually going to kick your ass."
He rolls his eyes, "Gee man. Don't vent all your frustration on me," he gets to his feet, shoving his hands into his pockets.
With annoyance written all over his face, he walks to the door.
I sigh deeply, "Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to vent my anger on you," I also stand up, going to meet him at the door.
He just shrugs, "Fix it."
"I'll make it up to you," I place a hand on his shoulder, "Please?"
I see the small, proud smirk crawling up on his face, "Okay, okay," it finally turns into a grin, "Forgiven," he slaps my arm.
My face goes red with rage, "I will actually..."
"Just so you know. Your girl now works in a cafe just a few blocks away from the Texvane pub."
With that, he just glides out of my office, laughing to himself.
That little faery chose to work in a cafe than come back here? Really?
I dig my teeth into my lower lip, balling my fists at her side, "Some ego she has."
I huff, "It shouldn't bother me. She chose it for herself," I push her thoughts away from my head, walking back to my desk to clear it out for the day.
'Don't be a stubborn brat. If you don't want to see her, I will.'
His annoying voice pops up in my head again, "Shut up. I don't want to hear your voice," I snap.
'It's something you can't avoid. We're going to see her whether you like it or not.'
I feel the corners of my mouth twitching as his voice keeps on yapping nonsense.
If there was a way to strangle him, I would have done so a long time ago.
'You can't survive without me, dumbo. Now get going, we've got a damsel to rescue.'
Rescue?
"What do you mean?" I finally feel myself calming down.
'Our girl is not okay. She needs us Lucien.'
"If she has gotten herself in trouble. That is not my problem."
I pick up my briefcase, ready to leave.
'Lucien. It's either we both go there, or I go there alone, and trust me, you won't like it.'
A chill runs down my spine at his words. Lucas keeps to his words, and is capable of putting both of us in trouble, I mean serious trouble.
In the past, he had tricked me into doing stuffs my father would not even want to hear off, and I would be the one in trouble!
I swallow my pride down my throat, "Checking up on her wouldn't hurt," I straighten my shoulders.
'That's more like it.'
...
I hesitate for a moment, questioning my life, before I finally knock on her door.
No response.
I knock again– still no response.
"Hm?"
I look around. The block is quiet, not a sound from any of the rooms.
Is she ignoring me?
I knock again, this time a little harder.
The room next door, opens, revealing a petite blonde.
Her jaws drop as soon as she sees me.
Not again.
"This can't be real," her eyes dilute as she props her cheeks with her hands, running towards me.
"Mr. Reynolds! Oh my fucking days!" She squeals, jumping around in whatever emotion she is feeling.
Ugh.
"I have been your biggest, biggest fan.. I mean.. uh.. you know you were literally our Alpha prince. I used to have the biggest crush on you!" She clutches my wrist.
I clear my throat, "Thank you. Uh, where is your neighbor? Isn't she at home?"
She pulls away from, with a slight look of disappoinment on her face.
"I don't think she's back from the cafe she works in," she replies.
"Hmm, okay," I sigh deeply.
Stupid Lucas. Always overreacting.
"Uhm, do you mind calling her please?"
She nods, whips out her phone, and dials.
I wait patiently as she tries reaching Lyanna.
"Hello? Lyanna? You have a visitor. Please co–" she pauses, her eyes widening.
"Hello? Lyanna?"
A sense of worry grabs me by the throat.
"Could you put that on loud speaker, please?"
She immediately does so, and the next thing I hear makes my blood crawl.
A loud crash, and a snarl rips the air. Then a growl, and a scream.
"Is that a freaking wolf?! Lyanna? Hello?!" The blonde calls out, and the call abruptly ends.
"Lyanna is in trouble!" She gasps, immediately brushing past me.
"What has she gotten herself into now?!" She yells, as she runs towards the flight of stairs.
'I told you!'
I grind my teeth, worry, and frustration sparking off in my chest. My chest feels clogged all of a sudden, the gentle thumping of my heart turns into a full blown thudding.
I finally snap back to the present, then I take off after the blonde.
Oh damn goddess. If anything happens to that girl, I will definitely kill her before anything does.
I reach the blonde, and grabs her hand, "Let's go in my car. It's a lot faster," I race down the stairs pulling her with me.
Lyanna, I'm begging you. Please don't die!
