Chapter 23. Quick Match
4,000 Rakki ---- 4,000 Harrington
“I’ll be the one deserving of being near my beautiful Alexis! I Draw!!” Harrington yelled as he made his first move. He looked at his cards for a second before smiling. “Alright! I use the spell, Service Ace!!” I sighed from remembering the annoyance it was to fight this guy. “How it works is I pick a card in my hand! Then you have to guess if that card is a monster, spell, or trap card! If you guess right… Then you’re fine! But if you guess wrong… Then you get served with a stinging 1500 attack damage!!” He held up a card for me to guess.
I looked at the card, then behind Harrington for just a second. “I guess monster.” I said with a cool smile. “Are you sure…?” Harrington tried to scare me into thinking something else. I rolled my eyes at him. “Yes it’s my final answer, now survey says!!” I yelled as I pointed to the card. Harrington scowled as he showed I was correct. “You got lucky this time, bench warmer!!” I scoffed at him, but I noticed Alexi’s disbelief from the corner of my eye. I couldn’t help but smirk at her for figuring it out so easily. Harrington saw this and angrily continued his move.
Alexis wasn’t sure if what she just saw was cheating or not. She watched as Rakki was about to make a guess at the card, but saw his eyes wander behind Harrington. Most likely to see a Duel Spirit that told him the type of card Harrington was holding up. She gained a small smile unconsciously as she just thought of how much Rakki had pulled Harrington's chain just to get some DP and keep him away from her in the future. Rakki was the type of gambler to have the upper hand before he even started a match.
“Now I leave this card face down to finish the set, bench warmer!!” Harrington yelled out at me. I shrugged at him with a smirk to keep his rage flowing. ‘Yes… Let the hate flow through you…’ I thought in an evil tone. “I Draw!!” I then looked at all my cards and scoffed. “Well I guess I can just finish this up in one turn… Well… One and a half.” I had called my victory that fast, causing everyone to wonder what I just drew, and Harrington let more steam out of his ears. I smirked at him and began my turn.
“First I set Dice Jar in defense position!! Then I lay three cards face down!” I finished my move quickly and gave Harrington a smirk to let him know it was his move.
Dice Jar/Rock/Effect/Level 3/ Atk:200 Def:300
Harrington laughed at my move. “Please! How do you plan to win with weak moves like that!? You have no hustle Rakki!! I Draw!!” I scoffed before unveiling my moves. “I think I have enough hustle… So let me prove it!! I activate Dice Jar’s effect!! We both roll a die! Whoever gets the higher number wins, and the loser has to take the winners roll as damage multiplied by 500!! Oh… And if the winner wins with a six… The loser takes 6000 Damage…” This paused Harrington as he just stared at me in shock. “Are you nuts!? The Duel could be over because of a single dice roll!?” I scoffed at him. “You gotta hustle to build that muscle!” I said to him sarcastically.
Just then the dice came tumbling out of Dice Jar, and Harrington held his breath in hopes of getting a high number. I was cool, and had a few face downs to rely on even if my bad luck reared its ugly head. The dice eventually came to a stop, and everyone looked with bated breath at the result. Harrington rolled a 5, and I rolled the magical number 6. I smiled widely as I looked at Harrington. “Well… can’t wait to see what your head looks like without that stupid mullet.”
Harrington’s life points began falling rapidly, and he started screaming in dismay. “NOOO!!! How could I lose!? I did it for love!!” I rolled my eyes at him as he was being overly dramatic.
4,000 Rakki ---- 0 Harrington
“Better luck next time.” I said as I walked off the court. Harrington was kneeling from the pain of losing as I walked over to my friends. “That duel was too fast! I couldn’t get a feel for it!” Jayden complained of me ending the Duel that fast and I shrugged at him. “Got us out of punishment didn’t I?” Jayden then remembered I did ask for that for part of the bet, and smiled while nodding in agreement. “Hah! I totally forgot about that! That’s sweet!” I scoffed at him and looked over at the rest.
I saw the girls with Syrus. They were all impressed at how fast I could end a duel if I was lucky enough, but I also noticed another person behind the group of girls. It was the Slifer kid that was partnered with me. “Sup man!” I waved at him only to have the kid jump from surprise and hide his face under his cap. Everyone was surprised at this person that just appeared behind them and seemed startled from his sudden existence. I scoffed as I introduced everyone.
“This was my tennis partner for class earlier.” I said as I went around to him. “He doesn’t talk much, but I guess he is a good enough guy to want to make sure I was doing good in my punishment.” I smirked as pat his shoulder a bit. He seemed a bit shy as he nodded in silence. “Well it’s good to meet another Slifer! My name is Jayden! What’s yours!?” Jayden said with his big goofy smile as he held out his hand to shake.
At this point I realized I didn’t know his name either, so I listened in. He shook Jayden’s hand after a bit of hesitation and spoke softly, but with a higher pitch. ‘I guess he hasn’t hit puberty yet. No wonder he doesn’t talk, school kids are harsh here, and the Obelisks would scrutinize him for it…’ I felt a little bad for his circumstances and continued to listen in. “My name is… Blair.” I had a feeling of Deja-Vu, from his name, but I just assumed he was a background character I didn’t remember.
I pat his back a bit more to help calm him down. “Anyway, Alexis. You said something about finding Chazz?” I got the conversation moving along again, and Alexis suddenly remembered why she was here as well.
