34 – Romans 15:1
Romans 15:1
We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
Suddenly a bunch of explosions sounded in the distance and a humongous green robot was revealed towering over the cityscape. The 0 pointer had finally revealed itself now that only 5 minutes were left of the test. It lumbered on massive tank treads crushing buildings left and right as it wreaked havoc.
Everyone started running from it immediately, but some were too close to it. James had already decided beforehand that he wouldn’t be beating the 0 pointer despite being fully capable of doing so. Destroying it would give away too much about his actual power so he would rather let Midoriya take the most attention as the only one to beat a 0 pointer in the test.
That didn’t mean he couldn’t show off a little though. He could still help the others and save people to make himself look good without revealing more of his power.
Toru was standing beside a building that was crushed by the 0 pointer and was set to crush without anyone even noticing due to her invisibility.
James saw her though. Given the speed he had revealed so far it would have been impossible to save her, but he decided he could increase it and explain it away as an adrenaline rush while gaining the goodwill of Toru and some more rescue points.
He dove towards her flapping his wings at high speed adding to his falling momentum. He couldn’t just swoop her up though as with his current speed simply trying to pick her up would crush most of the bones in a regular person’s body.
Just before he reached her he spread his wings fully acting as a windbreak slowing him down rapidly with enough g-force to squash most other people and rotating around Toru sweeping her up in a princess carry before speeding up again before the falling building could crush the two of them.
He made sure to fly her a few hundred meters towards the entrance gate dropping her off on a street corner now that she was probably safe.
He gave her a peck on the cheek "Be a dear and head to the gate, I'll take it from here," he told her taking off before she could break out of her shock and respond.
He would have spent more time on her if this weren't a perfect opportunity to farm rescue points, build his heroic image and build relationships with those he saves.
Toru stood there in a daze for a few more seconds before realising even if he got her out of the most dangerous area she should still probably find a safer place running towards the gate. She had already gotten a fairly good amount of points and her quirk gave her no ability to survive around that behemoth of a faux villain.
“Less than two minutes left!” Present Mic
Making his way back to the 0 pointer he noticed Tsuyu on a roof not too far from it. He swooped down beside her.
"I'm going to look for anyone that needs to be saved from the 0 pointer. Will you join me?" he asked her. With her leaping ability she might not be able to fight the 0 pointer, but she should still be able to save people leaping around and avoiding the faux villain itself or using her tongue to pull them to safety.
"Yes!" she responded with determination. At least he thought it was determination. With her wide mouth and muted expressions it could be hard to tell at times.
They made their way to the 0 pointer and James started coordinating with her using his height advantage to guide himself and her to save the people endangered by it.
“One minute left!” Present Mic
After they had been saving quite a few of the other participants he noticed the 0 pointer shifting its attention to Tsuyu who wouldn't be able to take the brunt of its offence. James ended up flying at the head at high speed and punching the side of it while it was distracted. He made sure to hold back a lot though so it didn't actually beat it or even do much damage however it did manage to grab its attention.
"You keep saving people, I'll keep it distracted," James yelled at Tsuyu.
Now that he had its attention he used the mobility granted by his wings to fly around it dodging its attacks and countering every so often to keep its attention.
Once he was keeping the attention of the 0 pointer on him it gave Tsuyu more freedom to move around and save more people. It didn't take them long to rescue the few remaining participants that didn't manage to escape by themselves.
“Time’s up!” Present Mic announced, ending the test.
The moment the event ended the 0 pointer powered down.
When looking around the crowd they didn't have anyone too seriously injured among the participants.
"Uhm..thank you for saving me," Toru said with a shy smile. He was sure she would be hiding her expression if she knew he could see it.
"Of course. Wouldn't want any harm to come to your pretty little face," he said with a chuckle.
He could practically see the steam coming from her ears. He kind of liked how honest her expressions were since she thought no one could see them. It was rather refreshing.
"Uwaa.... w-well, thanks anyway," she said.
"Good teamwork out there." Tsuyu said walking up to them.
"It helps to have a competent partner," he told her with a smile.
She nodded seriously in agreement.
While they were having their conversation a short old lady showed up, it turned out to be Recovery Girl. She quickly healed those that had any injuries worse than bruising and light cuts and scrapes until she came across James.
"You seem like you could use some healing." she said.
James looked left and right trying to find out who she was talking about since beyond some light scuffs from using his body like a battering ram smashing through the robots he hadn't actually received anything worse than that. With as little damage he had received all of it had long healed leaving him in perfect shape.
When he remembered she healed people by kissing them and seeing the blush on her cheeks his expression suddenly turned unamused.
"No I'm quite alright." he told her firmly.
"I really think it wouldn't hurt just to be safe," she retorted shamelessly.
"I really think it will," he deadpanned.
"Oh... well that's a shame," she said with a disappointed look before she left for the next battle centre.
