Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 30: Chapter 30 Exposure

Luke suppressed his thoughts and continued to ask, "Where were you on the night of March 4th, last Friday, between 8 PM to midnight?"

Harry replied helplessly, "Come on, you guys still don't believe me?"

Luke said, "Harry, adjust your attitude and answer my question properly. We can only prove your innocence by clarifying the facts. This is the real way to help you.

As long as you are innocent, and you have helped the police, we won't abandon you."

"Can I put on some clothes first? I can't think straight naked."

David threw his clothes at him, "Don't play any tricks."

Harry put on his clothes and sat on the edge of the bed, "Today was supposed to be a good day, and you guys ruined it."

For some unknown reason, Marcus asked, "Hey, was that black girl your girlfriend?"

Luke and David simultaneously gave the idiot a glare.

You damn idiot, that's all you could come up with after all this time.

If Marcus hadn't been so well-informed, David would have wanted to kick him to death.

Marcus noticed the heavy atmosphere too and made a zipping motion across his lips.

Harry glanced at Marcus with a defiant look, "That night, I was with my girlfriend, the same one you just saw."

"What's her name?"

"Julian."

"Where were you on the night of February 25th, between 8 PM to midnight?"

"I should have been drinking with friends at a bar, you know which one."

"Who were you drinking with?"

"They're all brothers from the gang; you can ask anyone."

"Where were you on the night of February 18th, between 8 and midnight?"

"Come on, are you guys ever going to be done? It's been so long, how could I remember? I don't know, go check it yourself."

David warned, "Hey, watch your tone. If you want to clear your suspicion quickly, then try to remember."

Harry closed his eyes and pondered, and after a while, he shook his head, "I really can't recall."

"You keep an eye on him, I'll go take a look." David left the room after dropping these words.

Marcus said to Luke who was nearby, "Buddy, you can go out for some air, I'll watch him."

Luke clearly didn't trust his so-called generosity, "Shut up."

Marcus sat opposite Harry, "Hey, how did you meet Julian?"

Harry "..."

Luke warned, "I told you to shut up."

Harry looked at Marcus, "Officer Luke, is he really a cop? If so, I think I could be one too."

Marcus was amused, "Oh my God, who gave you the courage?"

Luke pointed at Harry, "You shut up too."

Luke suddenly understood why David was so irritable when investigating cases, dealing with a bunch of unscrupulous bastards every day, it's hard to maintain a calm demeanor.

"Knock knock..."

David knocked on the door and tilted his head, "Luke, come out for a second."

"I don't want any changes in this room before I get back, OK?" Luke left the room after he said this.

David said, "Raymond and Jenny questioned Julian; both of their statements essentially match. They were together on March 4th and February 25th."

"So, Harry has an alibi."

David nodded and opened the door, "Harry, you're free to go."

"I've been saying that I'm innocent. That crazy woman's case has nothing to do with me."

"Don't get too happy too soon, you got involved in this case the moment you left photos at Alyssa's front door. Give me your phone battery back, and don't leave Los Angeles, be on call 24/7, got it?"

Harry reluctantly said, "I got it."

"Louder, I can't hear you."

"Yes, sir."

"Good, Marcus, let's go."

After leaving the room, Marcus glanced at the room next door, "Are we sure this guy has nothing to do with the Taser robbery case?"

"Yes, it's confirmed; stop thinking about random things," David had already seen through Marcus' tricks.

Old habits die hard.

Marcus shrugged, "So, another dead end in the investigation?"

Luke said, "No, we have a new lead."

...

Half an hour later, Luke and the others rushed to Alyssa's house.

Luke, David, and Marcus waited at the front door while Raymond and Jenny covered the back door.

David and Marcus stood on either side of the front door as Luke stepped forward to knock, "Knock knock…"

No one replied, so Luke continued to knock, "Knock knock…"

"Which bastard is disturbing my sleep, I @#¥%…" A stream of curses came from inside the house.

Luke's face changed slightly, 'Are you fucking forgetful or doing it on purpose?'

"Creak…" The door opened, and Steven stood there drunk, burping 'er' and letting out a hiccup from the alcohol.

Steven swayed his head, "Oh, Officer, you're here again. I was about to go to the police station to find you."

Luke raised an eyebrow, "You're drunk again."

"Sorry, I was so worried about Alyssa's safety last night I couldn't sleep, so I drank a bit less."

Luke probed, "You don't look like you've had just a bit. You're not trying to use drunkenness to avoid giving a statement, are you?"

"I didn't think that. I'm even more anxious than you guys, and I want to find Alyssa even more. Do you have any clues about her?"

"Really?" Luke expressed doubt.

"I swear to God."

"It seems God doesn't hold a very high place in your heart," Luke changed his tone, "Let's go to the police station to chat. Maybe you can provide some valuable clues for us."

"I'll change my clothes," Steven said, then tried to close the door.

Luke held the door with his hand, "You're not inviting us in to sit for a while?"

"Please come in," Steven moved aside somewhat reluctantly.

"Go change your clothes, don't worry about us," Luke said as he entered the living room, scanning his surroundings.

David followed inside and whispered, "I checked the delivery locker; it was locked."

Luke nodded to show he understood.

A few minutes later, Steven changed his clothes and got into the police car.

Marcus drove, David sat in the passenger seat, and Luke sat next to Steven.

Steven seemed uneasy, "Is there any news about Alyssa?"

"No," Luke countered, "What about you? Do you have any clues about her?"

"No."

"What do you do for a living?"

"I… quit my job, and I'm planning to open a shop to do some small business."

"When did you quit?"

"That's not a short time. What do you live on?"

"Alyssa has a job, mainly relying on her income. I take on some part-time work occasionally."

Luke asked, "What kind of work does Alyssa do?"

"She's a dance teacher at a training institution."

"Any other part-time jobs?"

"No."

"Are you sure?"

"What do you mean by asking that?" Steven glanced at Luke, then lowered his head.

"We need to understand Alyssa's situation in order to find her as quickly as possible. If you know she has other part-time jobs, you must tell us."

"I don't know anything."

Luke persisted, "Who usually collects from the delivery locker at your front door?"

"I do it more often, what about it?"

"Is it always locked?"

"Yes."

"So, you were the one who put the photos in Alyssa's parents' house?"

Steven's eyes widened, "I don't know what you're talking about?"

"You know that Alyssa dances at the club."

Sweat beaded on Steven's forehead, "Are you suspecting me?"

"No need to get nervous, just a chat."

Steven's lips quivered slightly, and after a long silence, he finally said, "I want a lawyer."
