Chapter 175 Going to Sea (5000)
Becker Community, Robert Sullivan's home.
Robert Sullivan was a tall white-haired elderly man who, at four in the afternoon, wheeled out the grill from the garage.
This grill had been with him for ten years, and to him, it was like a friend, an indispensable old pal in his life.
Grill, marinated meat, and chilled beer were gradually moved to the yard.
For a family head, a family gathering day was indispensable, the best way to enhance relationships among family members.
A black Mercedes G500 pulled up to the house, and a tall, dark-haired young man stepped out.
Robert was a bit surprised, "Hi, Detective Chief Luke, I didn't expect you to be the first one here."
Luke laughed, "I felt the call of the grill. And just a reminder, Grandpa, I'm now the Deputy Chief, Deputy Chief Luke."
"Really? You got promoted again?"
"Of course, you should see whose grandson I am."
"Good lad, you've got my style, much better than your uncle."
Robert whispered, "Sometimes I even wonder if your grandma cheated on me."
Luke "..."
"Luckily, your mom looks like me."
Luke "..."
"Kid, don't just stand there, come over and see how my steak marinade turned out."
Luke walked over, and on the table were Tomahawk steaks, lamb chops, tuna, and sausages.
"Fantastic, truly Michelin star quality."
Robert said, "I heard Maggie likes tuna."
Hearing Robert start talking about Chubby's girlfriend out of the blue, Luke was a bit surprised, "Grandpa, why did you bring up Maggie?"
"Because she's also coming to the dinner."
Luke looked somewhat awkward, "Really?"
"Of course, I checked with Jack. We're introducing a new member to our family gathering. It's truly a day to remember."
"Indeed." Luke sighed softly, changing the topic, "Grandpa, is there anything you want me to do?"
"Bring out the sound system, we'll play some celebratory music later."
"As you wish."
A well-used red Santana parked at the door, and a white hefty man with a goatee stepped out, "Hi, my dear nephew, long time no see."
Luke smiled, "True, it has been a long time."
"My dear sister and Chubby haven't arrived yet?"
Robert replied, "They'll be here in a bit. Maggie will join too, Val, you better be careful later."
Val slapped his forehead, "Oh my god, you're not joking, are you?"
Robert pointed at him warningly, "If you mess up this gathering, I'm throwing you out of here."
Val sighed and turned to Luke, "How about you, brought your girlfriend?"
Luke shrugged, "She's been busy with work recently."
Val breathed a sigh of relief, "Finally some good news."
Luke "...
Val said, "Chubby actually brought his girlfriend to the gathering, don't you think that's a bit much?"
Luke didn't reply, just tilted his chin towards Grandpa.
Val sighed again and pulled out two green bills from his pocket and placed them in Luke's hand. "Here you go, thanks."
"Uncle, I'm not in a hurry."
"I've got money now, I told you it wouldn't always be this way. The day was bound to turn around sometime."
Luke asked, "Did you find a job?"
"Right, a friend asked me to help him write songs," Val dismissed the subject quickly, "I heard about Angela being killed, was that true?"
"You knew Angela too?"
"Of course, we were sort of contemporaries, no, actually I should say I was her senior, I joined the band before her.
We never met, but you tend to know about others from your time, you know."
Luke thought, Many people knew Angela, and I knew her as well.
Val looked curious, "Is it true Angela was bitten to death by a vampire?"
"Angela is indeed dead, but it wasn't by a vampire."
"So, how did she die? I'm actually quite curious."
Luke considered for a moment and explained, "You should know that Angela's compositions were vampire-themed, and one of her fans, also a vampire enthusiast, hallucinated from a drug and thought he was a vampire, then killed Angela."
The case confidentiality mainly concerns the investigative details, but the general situation was still okay to share.
Val's eyes widened, "I actually kind of envy Angela, having a loyal fanbase. It's quite rare. Not everyone can have it."
Before Val could finish, a car pulled up right to the front door.
Linda was about to get out of the car but was stopped by Robert calling, "Linda, drive your car into the garage, do not block Luke's car."
Linda rolled her eyes but said nothing.
Chubby got out of the car, with an exaggerated tone he said, "Hi, Grandpa, Uncle, big bro, look who's here."
Maggie walked down from the backseat of the car, dressed in a pink dress, apparently dressed up for the occasion.
Chubby even gallantly assisted her as she walked.
Robert greeted her with a smile, "Hi Maggie, welcome."
"Hello, Mr. Sullivan. Here's a gift for you," Maggie handed over a box.
Robert opened it and found a bottle of champagne inside, "Thank you, I really like it.
