Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 172: Closing the Case

The following morning.

Office of the Robbery and Murder Department Squad One.

"Creak..." The door sounded.

Reid walked into the office from outside, carrying a cardboard box in his hand, "Fellows, you worked hard last night, I've brought you some breakfast."

The deputy team leader took out a donut from the box, "Thanks, this is my favorite."

The others also gathered around, taking donuts from the box to eat.

For Luke, these were a bit too sweet, but they tasted quite good with some coffee.

The captain's office door opened as well, and Susan came out, "Chief, your timing is perfect, we were just about to start the morning meeting.

It's a good time to report on the progress of the case to you."

"Good, I happen to have something to announce as well," Reid strode into the meeting room.

Luke finished his donut and entered the meeting room with his coffee.

Susan asked, "Chief, would you like to go first?"

"No, let's discuss the case first, I'll speak last."

Susan opened her notebook, "Luke, describe the interrogation from yesterday."

Luke recounted the details of the case.

Reid asked in return, "Do you believe his testimony?"

Luke pondered, "His testimony makes sense logically, and there aren't any contradictions with the evidence.

I had the Forensics Department test all of the Holy Blood seized, and some of it was indeed made from cow's blood.

From this point, it's very likely that the farm is the manufacturing base for Holy Blood.

Therefore, I think Kafro's testimony has some credibility, but it can't be fully trusted either."

Reid inquired, "What about the doubts?"

Luke replied, "According to Kafro, Jefferson is likely Darcy's accomplice.

Jefferson is responsible for the production of Holy Blood, while Darcy handles the sales.

And the farm is their production base for the Holy Blood.

Darcy brought Kafro to the farm for Jefferson to take out Kafro.

Kafro claims he did not kill Darcy."

Luke paused a bit then continued, "Personally, I feel there's no issue in believing Darcy and Jefferson are accomplices.

The key issue now is, who killed Darcy.

In my view, both Kafro and Jefferson had motives.

I see four possibilities. The first possibility is that Kafro is telling the truth, and he didn't kill Darcy.

In that case, Darcy was probably killed as a result of an internal conflict with Jefferson.

Jefferson then cleaned up the scene and disposed of the body;

The second possibility is that Kafro is lying, he killed Darcy and cleaned the scene himself, then dumped the body off the cliff.

Afterward, he went to attack Jefferson at the farm and ended up getting shot by Jefferson instead.

The third possibility is that Kafro killed Darcy, but didn't clean the scene right away; he planned to kill Jefferson at the farm and then clean up both scenes together, but his plan failed and he was wounded by Jefferson.

Kafro, injured, didn't have time to clean the scene where Darcy's body lay.

Jefferson, in order to avoid any connection to Darcy's body, took it upon himself to clean up the scene, driving the car off the cliff.

The fourth possibility is that Darcy was killed by an unknown third party."

Reid nodded, seemingly in agreement with Luke's analysis, "Does anyone else have any thoughts?"

David said, "Since Jefferson is a suspect, let's just apply for an arrest warrant and a search warrant. A thorough search of the entire farm should turn up some clues."

The vice leader followed, "It would be great if we could find evidence, but what if we search the farm and come up empty?

We didn't find a murder weapon at the scene where Darcy's body was dumped, so the key issue now is how to convict.

Also, has the equipment for manufacturing Holy Blood been moved yet?

The former is related to the murder case, and the latter to the drug manufacturing case."

David speculated, "I personally feel that the tools for making Holy Blood should still be at the farm.

Because it was an accidental event, no one expected Kafro to attack the farm.

Plus, they had to deal with Darcy's body. From the incident until dawn, there were only a few short hours, not enough time to move the tools for producing Holy Blood."

Little Black said, "What I don't understand is, why did he call the police?"

Jenny replied, "That's not hard to understand, because he fired shots that night, and there are other farms around, even if he didn't call the police, they might have come to him anyway."

Susan looked at Jenny, "You and Raymond have been keeping watch at Jefferson's farm, any discoveries?"

Since their last finding that the owner of the farm, Jefferson, may have been lying, Jenny and Raymond had been investigating the farm.

Jenny replied, "Raymond and I have been staking out the area around the farm; in the past two days, the Jeffersons haven't gone out.

Also, we inquired discreetly about the situation at Jefferson's farm, and someone provided some important information.

According to that person, he used to work on Jefferson's farm.

A while ago, Jefferson had him dig a cellar in the northeast corner of the farm. The cellar was two meters deep and twenty or thirty square meters in size. Not long after the cellar was completed, he was let go by Jefferson."

Luke asked, "What was the reason given for digging the cellar?"

"Jefferson didn't say."

Luke asked, "When was he fired? What was the reason given for his dismissal?"

Jenny replied, "The beginning of May. The reason given was that the farm was not doing well financially to pay the workers' wages."

Luke analyzed, "The amount of human blood bought by Darcy started to decrease from May, which coincides with the time they dug the cellar. From this, it seems quite likely that the cellar was intended for manufacturing Holy Blood."
