Chapter 4: CHAPTER 4 . The Mysterious Crystal and the Battle with the Scaled Wolves.
The next day, as the morning sun poured through the forest, accompanied by the gentle hum of birdsong, Chuyang slowly awoke from his tired slumber.
He gradually opened his eyes, and the blurred vision in front of him slowly cleared.
He realized he was still at the center of the stone tower, with the stone slabs beneath him still emitting a faint glow.
Yesterday's experience felt like a dream. The dreamlike scenes replayed in his mind, leaving him with a sense of confusion.
He shook his head, still feeling a faint, burning energy on his forehead, as though every cell in his body had been awakened, brimming with irresistible power.
Raising his head, he saw the sky outside the tower was still that strange purple-blue color, and the distant mountains rose like blades, swallowing the morning light.
A light breeze blew through the cracks of the tower, carrying a fresh scent he had never smelled before.
The fragrance felt like the most primal essence of the world, filled with boundless vitality.
Chuyang took a deep breath and realized this air was unlike anything he had experienced before. It was so fresh it seemed to penetrate every inch of his skin, cleansing every trace of confusion from his mind.
He slowly walked out of the stone tower, and the stone slabs beneath his feet made a faint sound. The scene outside the tower momentarily stunned him.
The forest was not filled with the familiar bird songs and morning mist. Instead, it was filled with vibrant life and a sense of mystery.
The sky presented a gradient of purple, and the sunlight was not as bright as the morning sun on Earth. It filtered through layers of clouds like mysterious ribbons, gently casting golden light across the forest.
Each beam of light seemed to freeze in mid-air, illuminating the entire forest.
The surrounding trees were unlike the tall trees Chuyang remembered. They were towering and sturdy, their trunks as solid as rock, with each tree emitting a faint silver glow, and their branches and leaves seemed to whisper softly to one another.
The ground was covered with thick moss, like a soft carpet, and every step he took made a faint echo.
Looking down at himself, he was still wearing the delivery uniform. Chuyang's heart was filled with complex emotions.
Yesterday's encounter had left him shaken, but the calm of the morning had awakened an inexplicable courage within him.
"Could I really have been reborn into another world?"
A wave of uncertainty stirred within him, and his feet instinctively moved forward.
He knew this world was filled with unknowns and dangers, but he also understood that he was no longer the ordinary delivery man.
This world was no longer his world, or perhaps it was no longer his Earth.
In other words, maybe he had really died?
Maybe, at this moment, he was a soul drifting in another world?
"Perhaps, I can find a new life here." He lowered his eyes and muttered to himself, his voice echoing in the morning air.
Rubbing his aching shoulders, he stood up, feeling the breeze on his face, carrying the fresh scent of the grass and trees.
Everything around him felt eerily quiet, as if yesterday's strange events were just a distant dream.
However, when his gaze fell on the dried blood stains and the broken branches on the ground, Chuyang realized that the dangers in this forest were not as simple as he had imagined.
He was still contemplating how to proceed when a deep growl suddenly echoed in the air.
He quickly ducked behind a large tree, peering through the branches and leaves. In the clearing, he saw three massive-scaled wolves facing each other.
Their size was as large as cattle, their bodies covered in scales that gleamed coldly, exuding an aura of unmatched power.
At that moment, two of the scaled wolves seemed very interested in a glowing crystal on the ground.
The crystal seemed to have just been unearthed, emitting a faint greenish glow.
The three scaled wolves exchanged looks, and the tension between them seemed to rise, as if a battle was about to break out at any moment.
Suddenly, the three wolves slashed at the ground with their claws, kicking up dust. Their massive bodies collided, creating a dull thud.
Chuyang's heart tightened, and he instinctively held his breath, afraid of alerting the beasts.
He quietly observed the situation, his mind racing to find an escape route.
"I'm just an ordinary man, I can't possibly fight against these monsters."
But reality didn't give him much time to think.
The weaker wolf was quickly defeated and collapsed, panting, while the victorious wolf, though covered in wounds, turned its gaze toward the remaining one, seemingly trying to use its victory to intimidate the opponent.
For a brief moment, the two wolves stared each other down.
Chuyang noticed that the glowing crystal was still shimmering with a faint light, and an irresistible desire stirred within him.
The sensation felt like a beautiful girl, veiled in a thin gown, slowly emerging from a pool of water.
The delicate fabric clung to her, outlining her graceful curves, emitting an enchanting fragrance that was irresistible to any man.
Finally, Chuyang gritted his teeth and, when the wolves' attention was diverted, rushed toward the crystal.
The moment he touched it, a searing energy surged into his body, as though every drop of blood in his veins was boiling, and cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
Yet, despite the excruciating pain tearing through his body, he gripped the crystal tightly, unwilling to let go.
Gradually, the energy fused with his body, and the crystal in his hand turned into a wisp of golden dust, scattering with the wind.
Chuyang stared in wide-eyed disbelief at his hand. He could see the floating dust in his palm, and his ears caught sounds from far away— the rustling of leaves in the wind.
Suddenly, he looked up, feeling as though the entire world had become exceptionally clear.
Once again, he looked at his palm, and he could clearly feel a surge of power within.
"This feeling..."
Before he could fully grasp the shock, the victorious wolf noticed him and roared, charging toward him.
In that instant, Chuyang's body reacted instinctively.
He leapt into the air, dodging the wolf's claws, moving faster than he had ever moved before.
He landed gracefully, standing firm, and was stunned to look at his own legs.
"This can't be... How am I...?"
The wolf did not stop its assault and charged again.
But this time, Chuyang did not dodge. Instead, he instinctively assumed a fighting stance.
The wolf's claws came at him, but he swiftly dodged, then struck the wolf in the face with his right fist.
The force of the punch sent the wolf flying, slamming into a tree and snapping it in half.
Chuyang's chest heaved, and he looked at his fists in astonishment, his mind filled with confusion and disbelief.
He couldn't believe that this strength was coming from his own body.
"This is really me? Wasn't I just an ordinary delivery guy?"
However, there was no time for further thoughts, as another wolf was already coming at him from the side.
He calmly turned and dodged, grabbing the wolf's tail and throwing it hard to the ground.
The wolf let out a pained howl, struggled to stand, but Chuyang delivered a knee strike to its abdomen, causing blood to spurt out as it collapsed, motionless.
The battle was over. The wolf that had crashed into the tree was badly injured and quickly retreated into the forest, disappearing without a trace.
Yesterday, he had been fleeing from beasts, and now he had easily defeated such formidable opponents.
Chuyang stood in the battlefield, surrounded by the wreckage, looking at his hands with complex emotions. He murmured to himself, "Is this power a blessing, or a curse?"
At that moment, another deep growl echoed through the forest.
Chuyang's body tensed, and his gaze shifted toward the source of the sound.
In the distance, in the shadows, it seemed that more unknown dangers awaited him.
He took a deep breath, a wry smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
"Since things have already changed, let me see what this world has in store for me."
Chuyang took a firm step forward and disappeared into the depths of the forest.
