Chapter 101: Dragon Vs Hollows
"It's a Wyvern... a lesser draconic species," Venus said, recalling the lessons from the Academy.
The others froze in disbelief.
"Oh, great, we have wyverns now. Will the dragons show up next?" Rudos muttered, exasperation laced with fear.
"They're already in our world," Luthor replied sharply. "But now's not the time for this. We need to escape that Hollowfied Wyvern—"
Slice!
A shadow swooped in. The Wyvern's claws tore through the air, aiming to cleave Luthor in half.
With a roar, he raised his greatsword to meet the strike head-on.
Crack!
The blade split under the monstrous force.
Bang!
His knees smashed into the stone floor, cracks spiderwebbing out beneath him.
"Luthor!"
Felix bolted forward, releasing a volley of blood-forged arrows. They slammed into the Wyvern's scales, barely leaving a scratch—yet it was enough to force the beast to recoil for an instant.
That single heartbeat of distraction let Luthor roll free.
"Fall back!"
They retreated step by step as the Blackhall Station shook under the Wyvern's furious roars. Then the roof gave way with a deafening crash, and more of the creatures poured in, their shadows swallowing the light as the station dissolved into chaos.
They ran without looking back. Luthor's wounds slowed him down, every step tearing fresh pain from his body. Rudos' speed faltered, and Irina's breath came in ragged gasps.
Only Venus and Ryuzen still held their ground against exhaustion. Venus, clicking her tongue in frustration, crouched to haul Irina onto her back. Ryuzen swung Rudos over his shoulders without hesitation, his draconic muscles straining but steady.
Felix pressed his glowing hands to Luthor's side, staunching the bleeding long enough for the captain to push himself into a steadier run.
They pounded across a treacherous downslope, loose rocks skittering under their boots. Sheer cliffs yawned at their flanks. Towering trees offered brief shelter, their shadows swallowing the fleeing party — but even here, the air carried the hunting cry of wyverns. The monsters circled above, their guttural roars echoing through the forest like a death knell.
The party knew it in their bones — if they didn't stop, exhaustion would kill them before the wyverns did. And no matter how talented a warrior was in youth, every unripe fruit was still prey before a true predator.
Far above the cloud cover, crimson eyes burned with cruel hunger, locked solely on Ryuzen.
"Kekeke..." The sound slithered through the air like poison. "Last time, I was driven back by your bluff, young lizard. But today... today, with the Lord's wisdom and power flowing through me, I will erase you from this world. Darkness and Despair will consume you."
A predator had locked onto Ryuzen, eager to consume him.
He was still unaware of its full form, but the sensation was undeniable. Something was watching them. Something was toying with them from the shadows.
His teammates hid behind the curtain of the waterfall, their bodies weary and battered. Even Venus, usually unshakable, had sweat glistening on her brow, fresh scratches marking her skin from their journey.
Seeing her like that made anger boil deep inside him.
Quietly, he slipped away from the group. The prey would become the predator.
This was no longer just for her sake. A Dragon's pride had been wounded, and that could not be forgiven.
Yet his human mind still lingered, sharpening his resolve instead of clouding it.
With a rational mind, a Dragon can overthrow the sky.
And that was exactly what he intended to do.
Very soon, he stood before the approaching tide of Hollowfied Wyverns and other twisted creatures.
"Grakar, come forth!"
"Yes, Lord!"
A colossal shadow surged into existence behind him, like a guardian born from the depths of hell.
The Abyssal Fire Dragon opened its maw and unleashed a torrent of black flame, the very air vibrating with its searing power.
Ryuzen's body also transformed. Golden scales spread across his skin as his form warped into that of a big golden dragon.
Though smaller than Grakar, his presence carried the same crushing majesty, his golden slit eyes gleaming with draconic pride.
Ahead, hundreds of Wyverns let out a unified, bone-shaking screech, diving forward in perfect formation, as if driven by one relentless will to tear them apart.
"SCREECH!"
The first wave of Hollowfied Wyverns swooped down, their corrupted wings leaving trails of violet mist. Their eyes glowed with feral madness, and their screeches clawed at the mind.
Ryuzen's golden slit pupils locked onto them. His claws flexed, his tail whipping the ground with enough force to crack stone.
"Roarrr!"
Grakar's massive maw opened once again, and another torrent of black flame engulfed the front ranks.
"SCREECH!"
Wyverns screamed as their armor-like scales melted, bodies crashing lifelessly to the ground.
Ryuzen also charged forward.
His draconic wings snapped open with a thunderclap, propelling him into the sky.
Then with a single spinning slash of his claws, he shredded through three wyverns mid-flight, their blood misting into the cold air.
[ Congratulations! You have levelled up.]
He had level up, but he didn't even glance at the notification.
Because every one that fell, more attacked forward, blotting out the sky like a living storm.
"Buzz!"
The earth trembled as hulking Hollowfied Behemoths joined the assault, their armor plated hides glistened with corruption.
Ryuzen and Grakar fought in the center like twin calamities unleashed, their roars and attacks shaking the battlefield. Each swing of Ryuzen's claws ripped through the Hollowfied Wyverns, while Grakar's abyssal flames consumed the skies in a storm of black fire.
The shockwaves of their combined assault rattled the land for miles, sending flocks of lesser beasts fleeing in terror. Even the ground itself seemed to shudder beneath their might.
Above the clouds, hidden behind a veil of distorted mana, the manipulator of this chaos stared in disbelief.
"What is this…?" the voice trembled with a mixture of awe and irritation. "It's only been weeks since that hatchling entered this realm… and he's already grown this powerful? Impossible. Even the ancient draconic lineages couldn't develop at such a pace. Just who… or what… is he?"
