Chapter 94: Intruders in the shelter
"So... what do you say? Would you all like to come to our shelter?" John asked while gesturing his hand toward the shelter's direction.
Jerry looked in his own place's direction and then at the shelter's. A conflicted expression formed on his face.
"What do you all say?" Jerry said and moved his gaze toward his people that were looking at him for an answer.
"My brother gave you the leadership so I will respect his decision. We will listen to you." Haley said, her face was very dull and the former beauty had diminished. So had happened to Sarah but she looked calmer with eyes very serious if the black bags were to be ignored.
"Actually, I don't have to make a decision," Jerry said with a smile. The others looked at him with confusion and he continued with a sad smile.
"The moment Jimmy met you all, he told me that we can trust you. He was going to ask you himself when things ended but it didn't go as planned." He said, tears started to form in his eyes yet he didn't cry.
If society said that men don't cry then they are wrong. But a man, who has many burdens on his shoulder, the man who has to be the leader do not have the privilege to cry their problems out.
That man has to give his all to show his subordinates that yes, everything is still okay as he is there. The man has to be the support. So goes for any leader no matter their gender.
John nodded and shook hands with the new leader of that group. Even if the leadership was to be given to Lucas in the end but Jerry was still the leader of his group.
"Then let's leave, do you have anything to take from your living area?" Lucas asked.
"No, we got everything with me. We can leave whenever you want." Haley said while her sister kept her head on Haley's shoulder.
Lucas just nodded and started marching toward the shelter with the help of John who was reading their tracks and looking for some others to keep the big group safe.
The path may have been straight to the shelter but still, there were many big roots, vines, and tall grasses that they had to cut through all climb in order to move.
Lucas looked at a plant that he had seen when he left, the same plant that was not ready. His eyes widened yet he didn't say anything. He activated his perceptive eyes and looked at the marvel the fully grown magical plant was showing.
It was the same as the colors that he could see in himself and his group but there was only something different.
The plant had only one color in abundance radiating around as if it was filled with it.
Lucas ignored it but decided to come back when no one was around. He was now strong enough to go around on his own after so many level-ups. Discover hidden stories at empire
When they were getting close, Jimmy's group saw the silhouette of the shelter for the first time.
"This... is this the shelter?" Sandra couldn't help but ask with awe evident on her face.
"Yeah, don't get surprised this quick." John consoled them, if the group was this dumbfounded when they could only see it from afar, what will happen when they see all the raw materials, the shelter's inside, and the storage area?
"Is there an animal inside?" Bill asked with squinted eyes, the shelter was still four minutes afar so they could only see the outline and the defenses.
Lucas frowned at the remark, he looked at the shelter with more attention only to get surprised. The shelter was alright but there was a relatively big creature inside the territory.
It looked like one of those creatures that fed on termite and ant hills.
"Shit! I knew the defenses were too weak."
Lucas went running toward the shelter breaking the aloof simple formation. The other started moving briskly too.
It only took Lucas around a minute with his full speed to reach the shelter's defense only to get surprised even further.
There was not one but two of the same creatures inside the shelter. When they saw Lucas approaching, the big one out of the two who was sniffing the things around with curiosity instantly stood on its hind legs with its hands in the air.
Lucas recognized the intimidation technique as the one the bears used.
Many others including John and Sarah reached Lucas just after, the others were going slow in order to make sure that the group won't get attacked when they were not present.
ROAARR!!
"Not loud enough, fucker!" Lucas shouted with furious eyes, he didn't mind that these creatures were alive, he just cared that they were inside the delicate shelter that he and the others put days and nights of effort to make.
The other one of the two creatures still growled but went to the back of the big one in order to hide.
It was an unusual move as both the creatures were above 10 feet in height while the humans were small.
For example- a bear would just sprint and attack in this case not caring that the other even have a pistol to attack.
Lucas didn't mind this development, it was better for him in this case if the creature was scared.
He darted his eyes around to look for any opening and surely there was not. The creatures had just shamelessly entered through the big opening entrance of the defense.
The others of the group came and they didn't have any time to observe the marvelous shelter as their eyes were fixed on the two big creatures.
"Sarah, shoot," Lucas said calmly. He trusted her as the target was very big and he himself had overseen her throwing skills.
Sarah made a ball of fire that was instantly the size of a basketball and shot without any stance.
WHOOSH
BAM!
The creature moved its hand toward the fireball and it blasted at its hand. When the smoke faded in a few seconds, the creature had no scratch on it as it looked at them with serious eyes. Lucas could even say that those eyes were quite intelligent.
