Chapter 458: Key Clue, Successful Trap, Case Conclusion
Arsenic trioxide, commonly known as "arsenic" in the East, is an impurity-free extract, odorless and tasteless, in the form of white powdery frost.
Alprazolam, a benzodiazepine sedative tranquilizer, classified as a psychotropic substance.
Both items cannot be easily purchased; only the Underworld could obtain such a large quantity capable of killing 26 people.
Previously, Mona and others were contemplating how to prove that Hector Jamie brainwashed Lady Ao Na, who willingly poisoned others and then committed suicide by taking the poison herself, while Luo An was pondering where Hector Jamie obtained these lethal substances.
Thinking about that crime website filled with all sorts of evil, and recalling that it was on that website where Hector contacted the three people including Petro, Luo An made a bold conjecture that Hector most likely purchased the drugs on that website.
After capturing "employer" Hector, Mona had obtained his account information, which showed no record of Hector purchasing drugs.
However, Hector Jamie kept telling Luo An that it was Lady Ao Na who purchased the drugs, and it had nothing to do with him, so naturally, Luo An turned his attention to Lady Ao Na's computer, suspecting that Hector used her computer to log into the website and buy the drugs.
Before Hector Jamie planned this case, he obviously thought of this too, which is why the room rented by Lady Ao Na was swept clean by him, leaving Chenier and others unable to find Lady Ao Na's computer.
"But you don't know, this crime website has always been under surveillance by the NSA (National Security Bureau)."
Luo An didn't directly state that the website's creator was the NSA, he just looked at Hector Jamie with a bright smile and said:
"I'm not clear whether the NSA caught a big fish or not, but I, as the Group Leader of the FBI's Special Investigation Team, did catch you, this little mudfish."
"..."
Hector Jamie's smile had long disappeared, he glared at Luo An for a few seconds, snorted coldly, and said:
"Sorry, I still don't understand what you mean, Group Leader Greenwood.
Even if that website has always been monitored by the NSA, so what? It was Lady Ao Na who bought the drugs, not me!"
"Wow."
Luo An left the interrogation table, walked over to Chenier who had been taking notes, patted Chenier on the shoulder, and said with a smile:
"Look at our Mr. Hector, who told so many lies that he started believing them himself."
Hector Jamie's face looked extremely ugly as he said, word for word:
"I did not lie!"
"A lie repeated a thousand times is still a lie.
It might deceive some people for some time, but when the truth appears, the lie will always fail, it just depends on whether people are willing to accept it."
Luo An casually said a few words, then took the laptop from the interrogation table to his front, slowly typing on the keyboard while saying:
"My agents, following my orders, contacted the NSA and obtained the account information used to purchase arsenic trioxide and alprazolam.
A computer can be destroyed, but records in the account will always exist. The place where the order was made from that account was in the room rented by Lady Ao Na, this has already been mentioned before, I won't elaborate on it again..."
As Luo An narrated these details, Hector Jamie listened intently with wide eyes, suddenly Luo An changed the topic and looked up at Hector, smilingly asked:
"By the way, dear Mr. Hector, the records show that you have been to college and received education. Did Lady Ao Na attend college? I remember the records showing she didn't even finish high school before coming to Las Vegas to try her luck."
Upon hearing this question from Luo An, Hector Jamie froze for a few seconds, suddenly remembered something, and his expression turned ferocious as he cursed angrily:
"Fu-k! Luo An Greenwood! You're just a son of a b-tch! @#¥%..."
The cursing was intense and loud, and the agents outside the interrogation room changed their expressions, rushing to check on the situation at the door of the room to prevent any unforeseen events.
Luo An in the interrogation room was not at all angered by the cursing, and the smile on his face was even sunnier. He quite enjoyed the look of Hector Jamie in a hysterical state from a failed plan.
Beside him, Chenier, who had been taking notes all along, glanced down at the text she'd written and suddenly realized:
"The files show that Lady Ao Na never attended university. Her way of writing English letters and her tone are completely different from Hector Jamie's!"
Snap—
"That's right."
Luo An said with a smile and snapped his fingers, then showed Chenier the chat records from when the buyer ordered the two drugs, trioxide dimercurion and alprazolam, which Mona had found on the laptop.
English is different from the characters of the East; the latter are ideograms, while English is a phonetic alphabet.
Ordinary people might not understand some specialized terms, but by the original meaning and the combination of a few Eastern characters, they can roughly guess what the term represents.
However, English is different. Every time the 26 letters form a new word, a new meaning is created. The connection between words is different, and one must remember them all to understand what the sentence means.
This leads to Westerners, even as adults entering society, having reading disorders, unable to comprehend what each sentence signifies.
If an Easterner can't understand characters when entering society, they're generally considered to have an intellectual problem.
In the Western world, there is a very large difference in the way of speaking, English writing, grammar, and vocabulary between those who have received higher education and those who have not.
This is also one of the reasons why the United Kingdom has historically looked down upon the "country bumpkins" of the Federation; many specialized terms are completely unknown to Federation citizens, let alone their significance.
In the laptop, the structure and tone of the words spoken by the buyer while ordering the drugs trioxide dimercurion and alprazolam are not something that Lady Ao Na, a high school dropout, could possess. Only Hector Jamie, who has received higher education, could have said them.
Through several instances of baiting by Luo An, Hector Jamie admitted to having had a relationship with Lady Ao Na and that it took place in the very room she rented; thus, Hector Jamie had lost all excuses for sophistry.
If Hector Jamie had not stepped into the trap laid out by Luo An at that moment and adamantly denied ever visiting that room, he still may have had a chance to argue his case.
But now, with the NSA lead surfacing, Hector Jamie, guided by Luo An, walked step by step into the trap dug out by Luo An. As his plan was thoroughly foiled and exposed, he lost control of his emotions and cursed wildly.
Snap snap snap—
After Luo An finished explaining, Hector Jamie's eyes were bloodshot, and his curses became even more intense.
Chenier standing beside him, and Mona, Winslow, and Michelle in the corridor were all looking at Luo An with excitement and admiration, bursting into applause for him.
"Winslow, Michelle, take him away."
Opening the door to the interrogation room wide, Luo An waved his hand to signal the two to take Hector Jamie to the detention room.
The interrogation process had been recorded on video, and everything Hector Jamie said had been captured. Along with the evidence found by Luo An and Mona, no matter how much Hector Jamie cursed, there was no turning back for him.
As Winslow and Michelle escorted Hector Jamie away, Mona retrieved her laptop, patted Luo An on the arm with a smile:
"Nicely done."
"You too."
Luo An chuckled, stretched lazily, looked at the time, and with a grand wave of his hand said:
"Everyone, the case is closed, tonight we dine together, let's have a feast!"
"Yeah——"
Chenier smiled while Mona was about to shout joyously when Reesi suddenly entered the room from outside, grabbed Luo An's arm and said with a serious face:
"Luo An, you were right, there is something wrong with that Ao Na."
