Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 194: The Essence of the FBI and CIA

Because the case of the Chief Financial Officer being kidnapped hasn't been completely solved, and IRS involvement is still required, although the fifth investigative team cracked the case and apprehended the criminal, the bonus and other funds have not been distributed yet.

However, the male corpse in the park river case that the Financial Crime Investigation Division intervened in has finally been settled.

In the documents, one was about the bonus awarded to the fifth investigation team after the park river male corpse case was settled, along with the proof of Luo An's doubled reward.

The other document was a post-case thank you from the Financial Crime Investigation Division:

A substantial amount of funds were added to the fifth investigative team's operating expenses, and Luo An's account was pending reception of 390,000 US dollars.

In the office, Luo An and Augustus looked at each other and burst into hearty laughter.

"Oh, by the way."

After laughing for a while, something suddenly struck Augustus and he clapped his head, saying:

"The bald-headed white assassin you captured and killed today, his identity has already been verified.

His name is Osen Monroe, 46 years old, a veteran assassin from the Underworld.

Apart from the FBI, the CIA and NSA also had pending rewards for his capture, totaling around 470,000 US dollars; remember to claim it later."

Luo An's eyes brightened, and he nodded emphatically:

"Okay, thank you, boss!"

"No need to thank me, it was you who resolved this; naturally, these rewards are yours."

Augustus waved his hand, then turned on the computer beside him, his expression somewhat vexed, and said:

"Actually, Osen Monroe also had a bounty on him from the Underworld, but that money is something you can't claim."

"Underworld?"

Luo An was slightly taken aback upon hearing this, and hastily looked at Augustus's computer screen, which displayed a black and red encrypted website detailing the bounty on Osen Monroe.

The condition to claim this bounty was somewhat stringent - the killer must deliver Osen Monroe's head to the claimant.

It was unclear what deep-seated hatred the claimant had against Osen Monroe.

However, since Osen Monroe was already dead, the bounty had turned grey.

Luo An glanced at the demanding requirements to claim the bounty and then looked away, his face solemnly asking:

"Boss, what's with this website?"

Seeing the website, Luo An instantly thought of a man in a suit who traversed through five movies because of a dog.

He then associated it with the Continental Hotel.

However, having been in New York for quite some time, Luo An had neither seen nor heard of the Continental Hotel.

The building shown in the movies, he had visited; it was just an ordinary hotel often used by film crews for shooting.

Hearing Luo An's question and his mention of the "Continental Hotel," Augustus shook his head, indicating that he had never heard of this organization within federal territory, nor was it a known underworld organization worldwide.

Then, Augustus pointed to the website on the computer, explaining:

"This website was established by a gang in South America."

According to Augustus, when this assassin website was first established, the FBI and CIA discovered it and deployed numerous agents to register accounts to monitor it.

There was even a time when the gang was almost targeted by enemies, and it was the CIA members who stepped in to maintain the website, preventing it from shutting down.

As such, now there were more FBI and CIA personnel on this website than actual assassins.

"..."

Not only that, Augustus took a sip of his coffee and continued to show several other underworld websites.

These sites harbored a large number of FBI agents and CIA operatives who used these platforms to masquerade and solve numerous cases.

"..."

Holding the folder, Luo An left the office of his team leader, speechless.

Indeed, the essence of law enforcement for the FBI and CIA is akin to fishing.

"How was it, Luo An?"

Mona asked with a covered mouth, giggling, as she saw Luo An walking out of the team leader's office:

"Did Augustus scold you for crashing the SUV?"

"How could that be!"

Luo An smiled faintly, the activity fund for Team 5 had increased by so much, Augustus was so happy that his molars were showing.

Still, Augustus reminded Luo An to be more careful next time.

Luo An nodded and promised with a smile, indicating that it wouldn't happen again.

Handing this week's bonus certificate to Mona, and before Luo An even sat down, a cheerful scream resonated throughout the office space of Team 5.

What followed were the clapping and cheers of the other agents for Luo An.

After a noisy and playful time, the agents returned to their posts to handle the aftermath of cases, while Luo An sat in his chair, doing nothing and spinning in circles.

Another reason why Luo An refused to go to the IRS:

He could legally slack off in Team 5!

Looking at the computer in front of him, Luo An's eyes were vacant as he absently calculated his recent accumulations and gains.

After spending 1.2 million on stocks from Apple Company, Luo An was left with 220,000 US Dollars.

The tripled bonus of 9,000 US Dollars from the male corpse case, the deep pit case, and the female judge case, the 200,000 US Dollars reward from Long Island Government, Big Beard's 60,000 US Dollars, as well as 39 US Dollar from Salbato Cristo and 470,000 US Dollar from Osen Monroe.

Adding his weekly salary, Luo An realized his recent earnings were around 1.35 million US Dollars.

Doodling on a sheet of paper, Luo An frowned in thought:

"Should I continue buying stocks from Apple Company? Should I switch to another company? But which one would be better?

The clock at the front of the office area soon reached the end of the workday.

Like usual, Reesi drove directly to the hotel, and other agents headed back home, while Mona stayed back at the investigative team.

Meanwhile, Luo An once again bought some fruits and flowers and went to visit Vireness at the hospital to maintain their connection.

Vireness was recovering well from her injuries. When Luo An arrived with the items, she was sitting in a wheelchair, looking at the distant scenery outside the hospital window.

Seeing Luo An, Vireness showed a faint smile on her face, and after exchanging a few pleasantries, she shifted the topic back to the case.

"...That's the story of the case, chief."

After narrating the general situation of the money laundering case, Luo An handed her a peeled fruit and said with a smile:

"The follow-up arrest of Canas has been handed over to the people at the IRS."

"Okay."

Taking the fruit, Vireness nodded softly, her face showing satisfaction.

The two continued to chat for a while. As the nurse came indicating it was time for an injection, Luo An got up and left the hospital room.

After gaining favor, Luo An drove back to his small apartment in Greenwich.

The next day, in the office area of Team 5, while everyone was busy with their work, Luo An still sat slacking in his chair, checking the system page in his mind.

From last Wednesday to Sunday, as Luo An didn't do much, the system rated him mostly as "Pass," and all the chests opened were "Stamina potions" and "Strength potions."

On Monday, Luo An's performance was rated as "Good," and the chest opened a previously used "Speed potion."

Yesterday, with the case being solved, the system rated Luo An as "Excellent," and four potions came out; in addition to "Stamina potion" and "Strength potion," there were two "Hemostatic potions."

Just as Luo An finished breakfast and prepared to drink a "Stamina potion" in the empty break room, Augustus suddenly pushed open the door of the office area and shouted:

"Luo An, come to my office!"
