After being severely injured, Bai spat out blood in pain.

What was shocking was that even though he was seriously wounded by Morkel and struggling to stay upright, he still did not stop forming hand seals!

"I am Mr. Zabuza's tool. If I cannot fulfill my purpose, then I am a true failure."

As Bai completed his hand seals, countless ice needles rose from the ground and shot toward Morkel!

The distance was too close—Morkel had no time to dodge!

"Why do you keep pushing yourself like this?"

Morkel felt a pang of regret for Bai.

He didn't understand what was so special about Zabuza that this boy would go to such lengths for him.

In the next instant, Morkel activated the Body Flicker Technique, using the mark he had left on Naruto earlier. With a flash, he disappeared!

All the ice needles missed their target.

Bai, now seriously injured, clutched his wound as blood dripped onto the bridge. Still, his eyes remained determined. Staggering slightly, he reached into his tool pouch, pulled out a kunai, and hurled it at Morkel.

Then, in a burst of speed, he charged forward, closely following the kunai!

Morkel reacted instantly, stretching out his hand to deflect the kunai, while simultaneously forming seals to counterattack with Lightning Style.

Just then—

Naruto and Sasuke, watching the battle unfold, noticed Bai's sudden movement. Their eyes widened in alarm as they realized his real target.

"Kakashi-sensei, be careful!" Sasuke shouted.

On the other side of the battlefield, Bai ignored the wound gaping in his chest and darted toward Kakashi, kunai in hand.

In a split second, Kakashi was forced to release his grip and retreat!

Splash!

The moment Kakashi stepped back, the water prison he had been maintaining dispersed!

Freed from his confines, Zabuza let out a low chuckle, his eyes flashing with malice.

"Good job, Bai."

Zabuza patted Bai's shoulder approvingly. His gaze then flickered to the gaping wound in Bai's chest, but his expression remained indifferent. "As expected of my ninja tool. Can you still fight?"

Bai nodded weakly. "Of course, Mr. Zabuza."

The battle on the bridge had reached a critical point.

Kakashi had suffered bruises, Sasuke and Naruto were riddled with ice needles, barely able to stand.

Zabuza, though battered from Morkel's Rasengan, still stood tall, his expression as menacing as ever.

And Bai, the most grievously wounded of all, wavered on his feet. Blood continued to trickle from his wound, staining the bridge beneath him.

Though his face was hidden behind a mask, his pallor was unmistakable.

On the surface, it seemed as though Morkel had the advantage.

"Zabuza, there's no need to risk your life over this assassination mission," Kakashi said, trying one last time to reason with him.

Zabuza's expression remained unmoved. "But I need this money to realize my ambition."

Zabuza had once attempted to assassinate the Fourth Mizukage, dissatisfied with the Hidden Mist Village's oppressive policies. When his attempt failed, he became a rogue ninja.

His dream was to build his own nation.

For that, he needed a vast sum of money.

"And how many innocent people have suffered for your so-called ambition? You've allied with scum like Gato to get what you want!" Kakashi snapped.

Zabuza scoffed. "I don't care about the lives of civilians."

Then, his expression turned sinister. "Enough talk. Let me show you true terror!"

With a flurry of hand seals, Zabuza unleashed his Mist Shinobi Technique, shrouding the battlefield in a thick, suffocating fog.

Then, an ominous red chakra flared around him!

The blood-colored aura made him look like a demon rising from the depths of hell.

In the fog, a shadow flickered ominously—Zabuza was on the move.

"I told you, the same technique won't work on me twice," Kakashi muttered.

Without hesitation, he pulled out a special ninjutsu scroll.

Catching on to Kakashi's plan, Morkel readied himself.

Kakashi swiftly formed a set of seals. "Earth Style—Tracking Fang Technique!"

He slammed the scroll against the ground.

A loud crack split the earth beneath Zabuza's feet!

Crash!

From the depths of the ground, a pack of ninja hounds erupted, sinking their fangs into Zabuza's limbs, pinning him in place!

The Mist was useless now—though sight was obscured, the ninja dogs had an acute sense of smell. They had tracked their target perfectly.

Zabuza gritted his teeth, unable to move.

Kakashi shot a glance at Morkel. Now was the time.

Morkel understood immediately.

In a blur, he activated the Body Flicker Technique and reappeared behind Zabuza!

Zabuza's continued existence posed a threat, and Morkel was determined to eliminate him.

Lightning crackled in his palms as he thrust both hands forward!

Shkk!

His hands passed through his target.

But something was wrong.

Morkel's expression stiffened.

Because the person impaled on his arms wasn't Zabuza.

It was Bai.

A few moments ago—

After a long battle, Bai had realized something.

Morkel had left a Flying Thunder God mark behind Zabuza. If Zabuza were to be restrained, Morkel would surely strike with that technique.

Seeing Zabuza ensnared by the ninja hounds, Bai had moved.

He placed himself directly behind Zabuza.

And when Morkel teleported in to deliver the final blow, he had struck Bai instead.

Blood spilled onto the bridge as Bai clung to Morkel with his last breath.

Even in death, he was fighting for Zabuza.

Morkel could feel Bai's body growing colder by the second.

In front of him, Zabuza turned, his gaze falling upon his fallen comrade.

His eyes widened.

For a fleeting moment, something flickered in his gaze—an emotion neither Morkel nor Kakashi could quite place.

Then, it vanished.

Zabuza's lips curled into a twisted smile.

"Bai… Even in death, you managed to trap the red-haired boy who used Flying Thunder God. Well done."

His voice trembled.

Then, gripping his massive sword, he swung it down at Morkel.
