Kaijin Fighter: So I Have to Make Monsters, So What?

Chapter 1376: A touch too late

'Hmmm. How interesting...'

Despite feeling the presence of hostile auras barreling towards him, Dante was...unusually focused.

Not focused in the same way an artist might be once they are caught in the throes of inspiration and passion.

Not focused in the same way a scientist might be when they are on the cusp of making an amazing breakthrough.

No, Dante was focused in the same way a madman becomes obsessed.

Whether this obsessive focus was due to the sheer novelty of actually creating a kaijin as opposed to letting random chance do its thing, or because he was feeling actual feedback from the materials he was working with, or because he had been unknowingly contaminated by the [Chaos] of his fated enemy was...unknown to the owner of the mines...and he didn't care.

All he knew was that directly below him, a growing horde of monstrous warriors were starting to get rowdier and rowdier by the second.

No...that wasn't right.

Beneath his feet, in a growing pool of tar, [Chaos], and corpses, monstrous Kaijin that could've been were busy devouring each other in a ritualistic manner, absorbing each other's power before they even had a chance of being born, all condensing into one being.

And as this feeling grew, a strange little chant started to form in the dark depths of Dante's mind.

By my wisdom, I shall force you to see how I do.

By my will, I demand your obedience and give you life.

Arise...Oizys.

...

[Finally.]

For all intents and purposes, the Zhen Clan scions and Lyona's coordinated attack should've worked.

Unlike a certain other Kaijin Lord, Dante wasn't encapsulated by a strange construct made of [Chaos]. Instead, the man was fully exposed to the elements while cloaked in only the barest, thinnest layer of [Chaos] that the young warriors had ever seen.

Their attacks, especially layered like this and resembling a horde of vicious animals about to tear apart a singular prey animal, should've been able to easily break through this thin defense and tear the bastard into a million pieces.

But alas, that didn't happen.

Not because they weren't strong enough to deal any damage, mind you.

Rather, they failed to do anything to Dante due to the simple fact of...timing.

They were just a touch too slow to interfere, and a touch too late to stop Dante from creating his latest monstrosity.

By the time their attacks were in range to do something, anything, they found themselves getting blocked by a giant pillar that was a mix of hardened black tar and various corpse bits.

BANG! BANG!

"Uh oh."

^What the fuck? Where did this bastard come from?!^

If the rebel warriors had broadened their senses to take into account the corpse pit below their feet, they would've noticed that the aforementioned pit had been more or less submerged in a pool of black tar.

This tar was actually the result of Dante's [Chaos] merging with the cursed energy of the [Malevolent Mountain Range] and was the same substance that created the cursed zakos that had harassed him and his Kaijin for three grueling months.

This tar allowed Dante to create zakos from the bodies of the slain mortals and beasts that were piling up in the main cavern, but he wasn't satisfied with just that.

From the glimpses of insight he gained from absorbing the power of the pit, Dante learned that he could technically turn these zakos into proper Kaijin by inserting [Cores] into them.

In other words, it was a more refined version of what he was attempting by putting [Cores] into mortal slaves.

But this revelation didn't encourage Dante into simply making zakos and seeing what kind of Kaijin they would become once he slotted in one of his strange golden [Cores], far from it.

Instead, he had wanted to see if he could influence the creation of the kaijin before they fully formed even their zako bodies.

As such, he dumped the remaining [Cores] he had into the corpse pit before he converted every single body in there into a zako.

What happened in that roiling pit of corpses, cursed tar, and [Cores] was an accelerated version of what had been happening in the [Mines of Malevolence] for years and years.

Some of the preformed zakos managed to latch on to a [Core], briefly form, before succumbing to their betters and breaking apart.

These newly freed [Cores] would then be absorbed and reformed again or broken into pieces, but many of them simply absorbed the other [Cores] and became stronger and stronger by the second.

Over and over, this process happened again and again until but a single [Core] remained.

The results were, well…what was currently defending him from the last-minute attempt to put a stop to his plans.

A giant pillar of [Chaos] that looked like a mixture of dead bodies, tar, and bone. Except…it wasn't a pillar.

"Wait a minute… is that a giant fist?"

"Oh, fuck."

As the shock of the sudden manifestation eventually wore off, the Zhen Clan scions and Lyona began to notice that it wasn't a giant pillar that had blocked their attack, but a giant arm.

A giant arm that was starting to shrink down and condense into a more humanoid, slender form.

And as the arm shrank, its owner began to ascend to be by their creator's side.

If one had a top-down view of this moment, they would notice that the pit that was once filled with tar, corpses, and [Cores] was starting to drain and condense into the ascending humanoid kaijin.

But that was just the start of the issues.

As the being rose higher and higher, the mortals near Dante noticed something was amiss but they couldn't put their fingers on what.

[Gah!]

[What the hell?!]

[Why am I feeling...drained?]

^Oh...shit.^

It wasn't until they heard the cries of pain coming from the kaijin that they realized what that issue was.

Both Dante's and Zhen Liu's Kaijin in the room began to show signs of weakness as their [Chaos] was being drained away by this newcomer.

That stated, the Kaijin on Dante's side looked a bit healthier due to their unusual composition.

[Damn,] Obsidious cursed as he did his best to fight back against the sleepiness that was overtaking his mind. [The new guy sure know how to make an impression.]

Eventually, the newly minted Kaijin finished reconstituting and took on the form of a strange figure that wasn't as visually intimidating as the other Kaijin in Dante's retinue, but they made up for it by having this incredibly unsettling aura that made everyone who looked at them feel incredibly queasy and disgusted.

It was actually to the point that the idea of cutting out their own eyes briefly popped into the heads of the rebel warriors.

"Wait a minute, this feeling...it's like the [Chaos] aura that the Kaijin give off!" Zhen Tai cried in alarm.

"Yeah, but this one sucks ass," Zhen Xing added while using [Chaos] to stave off the effect this aura was having on his mind.

Ignoring their commentary, the strange tar kaijin knelt down in the air in a way that felt nostalgic yet utterly disgusting in the eyes of the watching kaijin.

[Plagiarizing bitch.]

Unknowing or uncaring of the commentary being hurled their way, the newly formed kaijin made their vow known to both Dante and the onlookers in the room.

Their voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard being bass boosted.

[My name is Oizys, the embodiment of disgust and suffering,] the tar kaijin introduced themselves. [What is your bidding, my master?]

At this vow, Dante developed a wide and sinister grin.

"There are some annoying flies in this mine of mine," Dante stated while gesturing to the rebel fighters and the kaijin that were not his to command. "Get rid of them."

[With pleasure.]

Oizys rose to their feet in a slow, unnatural manner that made everyone looking in their direction flinch as if they had just witnessed an act so disgusting that they had no choice but to look away.

Unfortunately for them, this was planned.

"Wait. Why did I-OOF!"

"Zhen Xing!"

The moment they had all looked away, Olizys proceeded to practically teleport up to Zhen Xing's side and punch them so hard that the young scion was sent flying…not even into a wall, but through the entrance of the corpse pit, even widening it in the process.

"You b-AH!"

Zhen Tai didn't even have time to spit out a curse, as he himself was quickly sent flying after Zhen Xing with that exact same move.

^Oh no you don't!^

Lyona almost suffered the same fate as well, but she managed to stop the attack just in time by using [Chaos]-coated hands to grab Oizys's fist.

^Ha!^

*Gurgle*

^Uh…^

Unfortunately, this left her wide open to receiving a face full of tar-like vomit that had about the same effect.

HORRIFIC SQUELCHING NOISES!

^BAH!^
