Chapter 245: CA [245]: Ashbell
"What did you just say?!"
"Didn't hear me? I'll repeat: Ren Ashbell is on my team. I'm here to recruit teammates for my Laurenfrost team."
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!" Ellis shook her head furiously.
"How could Ren Ashbell join your team?!"
"Because I'm strong enough. Even Ren Ashbell, formidable as she is, isn't my match. She wants to win the Blade Dance festival, and the simplest way is to join my team. Together, we're unstoppable." Rinslet declared.
"What? You're saying you're stronger than Ren Ashbell?!" Ellis's eyes widened in disbelief.
Rinslet placed her right hand on her chest, brimming with confidence. "Exactly. With my contract with Master Altair, I'm the strongest elementalist. No one can rival me, not even Ren Ashbell."
Altair himself had affirmed this, and Rinslet trusted his word implicitly.
If anyone doubted her, she'd prove it in combat. Even if Kamito regained his strength from three years ago, he'd be no match. He might be the protagonist, but Rinslet had the advantage of Altair's power.
"I don't believe it! I want to see Ren Ashbell and ask her myself!" Ellis's faith in her idol crumbled. The invincible Blade Dancer who dominated the festival three years ago, undefeated, couldn't possibly lose to Rinslet. Even knowing Rinslet's contract with the mighty black dragon spirit, Ellis refused to accept it.
"Whether you believe me doesn't matter. Ren Ashbell knows the truth." Rinslet said, lifting her chin and addressing the students behind Ellis.
"As for meeting her, that's not possible now. She's not someone anyone can just see. Every person behind you wants to meet Ren Ashbell. Should I let them all have an audience?"
"Well…" Ellis glanced back. A massive crowd had gathered, nearly every student not on duty or otherwise occupied. Ren Ashbell was a universal idol; missing a chance to see her was unthinkable.
"To meet Ren Ashbell, pass my selection and join my team." Rinslet offered.
She respected Ellis's strength. As leader of the Sylphid Knights Radiant, responsible for academy security, Ellis hailed from a noble family and wielded a high-ranking wind spirit. Her Elemental Waffe and spirit magic were exceptional, making her a strong candidate for the team.
But Rinslet's pride demanded she assert dominance. Ellis's stubbornness required a lesson in Rinslet's power to ensure compliance if she joined.
"So, do you still want to meet Ren Ashbell?"
Joining Rinslet's team was the only way to see her idol.
"I do! I must see Ren Ashbell!" Ellis knew Rinslet was baiting her, but she accepted the challenge. She needed to confirm if Ren Ashbell had truly lost to Rinslet and why she'd joined her team. If Ren Ashbell was part of it, Ellis had no issue joining.
"Then prove yourself alongside those behind you. I'll judge who's worthy based on your performances."
Rinslet raised her right hand, and Carol, her maid, stepped forward, bowing to Ellis and the other students.
"Ladies, our team requires high-ranking elementalists. If your contracted spirit isn't of that caliber, you may leave now."
At Carol's words, some students departed regretfully. They'd come hoping to glimpse Ren Ashbell despite lacking high-ranking spirits, but now saw no chance.
About a third remained, those with high-ranking elemental spirits, the elite elementalists Carol addressed.
"Those remaining, follow me."
Though the coliseum was still disordered from the berserk spirit incident, it offered ample space for demonstrations.
"This arena is sufficient for you to showcase your abilities. Please summon your contracted spirits."
Some elementalists bristled at taking orders from a maid, but for a chance to fight alongside Ren Ashbell, they complied, eager to impress her.
The candidates summoned their spirits, representing diverse elements: earth, fire, water, and wind. Ellis's spirit, a wind elemental, took the form of a giant eagle with green feathers, wreathed in whirlwinds.
The coliseum brimmed with a vibrant array of spirits.
From a raised platform, Rinslet surveyed the spirits below, evaluating which candidates suited her team.
Claire and Kamito joined her, marveling at the display. Claire grinned broadly.
"Not bad, Rinslet. Using my contracted spirit's name to lure people was clever."
"Mind your words, Claire. I didn't lure them. I promised exactly what I said: join our team, and they'll meet Ren Ashbell." Rinslet replied, glancing at Kamito with a smirk.
Kamito's mouth twitched awkwardly. "I just hope whoever joins doesn't come after me when their dreams shatter."
Rinslet flicked her hair, smiling. "That's your problem. As the former strongest Blade Dancer, Ren Ashbell, it's your duty to soothe your fans' wounded hearts."
"Enough of that. Let's focus on picking the two who'll join our team."
