Is It Wrong to Abusing Cartoon Tropes in Dungeon?

Chapter 190: CA [190]: Black Dragon's Wrath

District 40, the main battlefield of the Third Kanto Battle, was a chaotic tangle of Civil Security teams clashing with Gastrea. High above, the Flying Nimbus drifted silently, while on the ground, Altair cloaked his presence, stalking the battlefield for opportunities.

He wasn't ready to transform into his dragon form yet. This battle was a chance to weed out corrupt Civil Security agents. Not all were noble, younger ones might be idealistic, but older agents were often desperados or mercenaries chasing coin.

Altair judged them with his own eyes. Those who treated their Cursed Children like tools would lose their Initiators to him. Those who saw them as partners would receive his aid, ensuring their survival.

On the battlefield, cooperative teams were easy to spot, covering each other with seamless, synchronized attacks. But the selfish ones stood out just as clearly, hiding behind cover while sending their Initiators to the front lines, even using them as shields.

Altair sprang into action, darting through the chaos to save those in peril, both agents and Initiators. He also targeted the Cursed Children exploited as tools, whisking them away to the Flying Nimbus. Their callous partners, stripped of their Initiators, were left defenseless and swiftly fell to the Gastrea.

Altair felt no remorse. He wove through the battlefield, rescuing the worthy and seizing litle girls.

The result was an eerie spectacle. Gastrea attacking Cursed Children would inexplicably collapse dead. Initiators thrown out as bait would suddenly vanish into the sky. It was nothing short of miraculous.

After one wave of fighting, Civil Security losses exceeded half their numbers. This meant at least half failed Altair's test, and paid with their lives.

The Third Kanto Battle served two purposes: depleting Gensei Takanotsume's forces and purging Tokyo's corrupt Civil Security agents. A masterstroke of efficiency.

Having culled most of the dregs, Altair transformed on the battlefield. The fearsome Black Dragon, which had obliterated Scorpio and awed Tokyo, reappeared.

The citizens, despairing after the army's annihilation, erupted in cheers at the sight of the Black Dragon's colossal form. Though they'd feared it during its last appearance, it had saved Tokyo from Scorpio. Now, with Aldebaran ravaging District 40, its return surely meant salvation.

The Black Dragon's arrival brought relief to both Seitenshi and Gensei. Seitenshi knew Altair's plan and trusted his overwhelming power as her ultimate safeguard. Gensei, believing the organization's "big shot" Had come to his aid, brimmed with confidence.

Tokyo is secure. It's finally mine!

Gensei's joy overflowed, and he laughed heartily in the command room. The organization's champion had arrived, perfect.

With the Black Dragon on the field, the Gastrea army was no threat. Even Aldebaran, massive as it was, paled beside Altair's draconic form. Its attacks were laughably weak in comparison.

To give Altair free rein, Seitenshi signaled a retreat. Flares shot into the sky, and Civil Security teams, spotting them, withdrew with their Initiators, leaving Altair's titanic form to dominate the battlefield.

No atomic breath was needed. A sweep of his wings unleashed hurricanes that hurled Gastrea skyward. A swipe of his forelimbs crushed and tore them apart.

Like a bulldozer, the Black Dragon scoured District 40 clean, pushing the battle beyond Tokyo's borders. The Gastrea, after hours of clawing their way toward District 39, were driven out in five minutes. Aldebaran was stunned.

The Gastrea had been dominant, only to meet a far more terrifying beast.

Aldebaran felt deceived. It had sensed a feast of humans and easily toppled the Monolith, but instead of a banquet, it faced this monstrous foe. This place was a trap!

As a Stage IV Gastrea and the largest in its army, Aldebaran was an easy target. After clearing District 40 and shifting the fight outside Tokyo, Altair took to the skies, scanning for the beast.

But as he ascended, a beam of white light struck his massive frame.

Altair merely frowned, puzzled by the attack, then ignored it and continued his search. Seconds later, another beam hit him, equally ineffective. He recognized it now: Pleiades, the anti-air artillery of Aldebaran's army, firing high-pressure mercury from five kilometers away. A perfect plane-killer.

Against Altair, it was useless. Brushing off Pleiades' barrages, he located Aldebaran and unleashed a low-powered atomic breath, melting the beast instantly. With Aldebaran dead, the Gastrea army lost its cohesion, scattering in all directions. Tokyo's crisis was over.

The Third Kanto Battle ended with Osaka's army wiped out and Civil Security suffering nearly fifty percent losses.

It also marked the Black Dragon's second appearance, once again saving Tokyo.

The people of Tokyo hailed the Black Dragon as their hero, their guardian deity.
