Volume 2 Chapter 187
187. Childhood and Present
Many years ago.
Purple Kite Valley.
A bone dragon landed in the valley surrounded by purple irises, while another bone dragon surfaced from beneath the sea of flowers like a whale, floating to the surface.
The two gigantic bone dragons stared at each other for a moment, then simultaneously spread their bone wings and took to the sky.
In this quiet valley, the two behemoths engaged in fierce collisions.
“Playing alone is so boring—”
The gold dragon girl sitting on a giant cross sighed.
Dorothea raised her hands, controlling the bone dragons with threads, making them fight each other.
Such an act was no different from left-hand fighting the right, merely a way to pass the time.
Perhaps truly finding it dull, Dorothea stopped. She waved her hand, and the two bone dragons collapsed like puppets manipulated at her whim.
“Come to think of it, why are all my collections these ferocious big guys? Isn’t there a single cute one?”
Dorothea stood up and started pondering this matter.
But after thinking, in recent years, the fellows who had intruded into Purple Kite Valley basically had nothing to do with being cute.
Moreover, she had always wanted to assemble a cool skeleton army, so she had never paid special attention to this matter.
The idea of wanting cute puppets as collections had only recently emerged.
“If only some cuties would enter Purple Kite Valley. After all, I don’t really want to go out…”
Dorothea jumped down from the cross, preparing to go check on the bone dragons that had just fought and perform some new modifications.
At this moment, she heard a faint sound coming from the sea of irises, and she also sensed the breath of life.
Someone had come here.
“It’s been a while since I’ve had visitors. I should go take a look.”
Dorothea decided and started moving towards the direction of the sound.
“Wh-where am I? Why can’t I get out?!”
It was the voice of a little girl.
Dorothea took a closer look…
Surprisingly, it was a silver-haired little loli?
And a silver dragon, no less.
“Eh, there’s actually someone here!!”
The silver dragon loli excitedly ran over upon seeing Dorothea.
“Hello!! I’m lost! Can you help me? I’m the Black Dragon King’s daughter, the Silver Dragon Princess, Xia Lulu · Christie!!”
“A silver dragon, huh? Quite rare, second only to me,” Dorothea laughed. “This child… perhaps I can turn her into a puppet.”
“A puppet? What are you talking about?”
The young Xia Lulu looked at the gold dragon before her in confusion. Suddenly, she gradually realized something was amiss.
“Why would the extinct gold dragon appear here!!”
“Little sister, you’ve trespassed into my graveyard without my permission and disturbed me… This can’t be overlooked so easily.”
“Wh-what do you want to do?! I’m the daughter of the Black Dragon King. If you dare harm me, my father won’t let you off!!”
Little Xia Lulu shouted.
“That’s even better. If I can make a puppet out of a princess, then this collection would be quite valuable.”
Hearing these words, Little Xia Lulu turned pale. Her instincts told her that this gold dragon was an extremely evil and terrifying wicked dragon!
“Chant Regulation!”
Without a second thought, she used Chant Regulation to save casting time and unleashed Fireball at Dorothea.
Dorothea remained unfazed and snapped her fingers.
Snap!
A giant bone dragon descended from the sky, blocking Little Xia Lulu’s magic, then roared fiercely at her.
“Ugh… Ah!”
Little Xia Lulu was scared silly. Her legs went soft, and she plopped down on the ground.
“If you want to blame someone, blame your own bad luck.”
Dorothea was about to order the dragon to take Xia Lulu’s life.
At this moment, Little Xia Lulu immediately hugged her head, her eyes brimming with tears, giving Dorothea a pitiful look that, combined with her cute childish appearance, could easily arouse a protective instinct.
“Sister, d-don’t kill me!”
“Sister?”
“Sister Gold Dragon, you want to make me a puppet, right?”
“Mm.”
“Sister, wait until I grow up a bit more before making me into a puppet. I’ll grow up to be very pretty in the future. If you kill me now, I won’t be able to grow up!”
“Now that you mention it…”
Dorothea felt it would indeed be a bit of a waste. The little silver dragon before her was too young.
Actually, it would be more suitable when she was a bit older.
“Sister, Sister, you’re alone here, right? It must be boring, right? Let me keep you company and play with you!” Little Xia Lulu started acting cute. “Before I grow up, I can accompany you. When I grow up, you can make me into a puppet then. Isn’t that the most profitable approach?”
“…”
“Sister, Sister! What’s your name?”
Seeing Dorothea hesitate slightly, Xia Lulu immediately hugged her and clung on, continuing her cutesy assault.
“Dorothea.”
“Got it, Sister Dorothea—”
…
Dorothea opened her eyes, awakening from her slumber.
“Xia Lulu was so cute back then, acting cute and calling me sister. What a pity. Later on, she turned into a black-bellied white furball, her personality getting worse and worse…”
Little Xia Lulu said she would be Sister Dorothea’s puppet in the future and always accompany her.
The grown-up Xia Lulu tried every means to take advantage of Dorothea, utilizing Dorothea’s knowledge, constantly thinking of ways to gain benefits, and even went back on her promise from when she was little.
The sweeter she was as a child, the darker she became as an adult.
“Hm?”
Dorothea sensed a familiar presence carried by the wind in Purple Kite Valley.
She sat up and saw the silver-haired loli standing amidst the purple irises.
The current Xia Lulu appeared somewhat frail, no longer like her former self.
With just a glance, Dorothea had a general idea. She jumped down from the cross, using threads to suspend herself in mid-air.
“Dorothea…” Xia Lulu looked at Dorothea. “Cough, cough…”
“Xia Lulu, you’re in this state, so you can’t hold on much longer, right?” Dorothea said. “Before, you came to me for help, saying you wanted to gain power to kill Frey and save the dragons…”
“But you did agree.” Xia Lulu said.
“I told you before, awakening as the Dragon King comes at a price. There’s no such thing as a free lunch. Obtaining power that doesn’t originally belong to you will eventually lead to a backlash from that power one day.”
“Mm, I’m well aware.”
Xia Lulu’s hand rested on her Dragon King’s Heart.
“Before, I thought none of this mattered. It was something I would inevitably face and couldn’t escape from… But now it’s different. I don’t want to fall so quickly. I want to hold on, so I came to find you.”
“I advise you to give up. Don’t do anything unnecessary. It will accelerate the depletion of your life,” Dorothea narrowed her eyes. “Doing nothing will allow you to live a bit longer instead.”
Xia Lulu shook her head, thinking of her daughter. The corners of her mouth curved into a slight smile.
“It’s alright. I’m already prepared.”
