Chapter 8: Hunting Trip - Part 3
*Vilgax POV*
*Location: Savage Planet*
*Date: 5030th Rotation/1985 Earth Year*
The creature tried biting at me, seeing that we were now of even strength, doing all it could to overpower me or injure me in some way. Seeing as I couldn't yet defeat this creature in a straight power match, I quickly kicked its knee, nearly dislocating its knee, I believe anyway, and as the creature screamed in surprise, I let go of its hands and quickly punched the creature across its face, sending it a few steps back.
Quickly recovering, the half-blind beast screamed and charged forward, going from the side this time, probably hoping to blindside me somehow. Instead of meeting them head-on, I raised my fist into the air and slammed it on the ground, disorienting the creature temporarily as it tried to regain its footing. Using this chance, I ran forward and grabbed its arm and flipped it over, slamming it to the ground as they screamed in surprise.
I saw a bit of blood around its mouth as it roared out, quickly scrambling to its feet, and as it did so, a bit of blood sprayed on the ground. Smiling internally, I began charging forward, seeing that I was now on near equal footing with the beast in terms of strength, perhaps a bit weaker then it or a viltrumite, but with my own intelligence alongside teh temprorary strength booster that had now ended as the tubes revelead themselves once more on my arms, and my muscles relaxed a bit.
Right now, I wouldn't be able to fight it head-on, as my muscles would tear themselves apart if I didn't give them a break from the forced enhancement, something I found out the hard way. Near the creature, I grabbed one of the knives as the creature lashed out at me, striking my face and nearly taking a chunk out of me. It did leave a scar, though, or it would if I had a mirror to see what it looked like, but no matter, I stabbed the creature in the gut, carving out a large scar in it.
Screaming in pain, the creature punched me away from it, wanting to gain some distance as it bled. I left the knife in to let the creature suffer, as I grabbed one of my three spears, twirling it around as I charged forward, aiming for the creature's foot to see if I could pin it to the ground. As I closed the distance, the half-blind beast swiped at me, forcing me to duck and weave, nearly stopping me from getting the perfect angle on its foot. Emphasis on the almost, as I charged the spear forward, piercing its feet and pinning them to the ground.
The creature let out a bloodcurdling scream, and I let out a vicious right to its face, sending a few of its teeth flying. Unfortunately, my punch was a little stronger than I thought, as its foot now had a wide open wound as it was tossed a few feet back, the spear ripping through it and destroying the spear in the process.
Seeing the pathetic state of the creature, picking itself up and limping in front of me brought a smile to my face, while I still couldn't face Rognarr's strength in a direct match without forcing my muscles to their max limit and nearly destroying them in the process. It was a good place for now, though; I was able to take one down, outsmarting it and outmaneuvering it, even if it was half-blind.
Still, though a cornered animal is sometimes more dangerous and more prone to lash out, going for more desperate attacks. Grabbing the sword made of a Sorbek jaw, and tied with various pieces of skin to help keep the adornments together. As the creature roared out and slashed at me, I stepped from side to side each time, the creature now far more sluggish and slow. With each slash, I gave them a cut in return, always going for around the same spot.
Never realizing that he was just digging his grave, as eventually I slashed right through its right arm, with it falling to the ground as the creature's rage merely increased. Now using its revealed bone as a stabbing instrument, piercing my armor with relative ease and giving me new ideas on what to use this creature's skin for, alongside ways to make my armor more durable.
With one quick movement, I raised my sword up in the air, pointing it down at the Rognarr's head, and slammed it down on its other eye, rendering it truly blind. Before it could let out another cry of pain, I grabbed its mouth and forced it shut, tired of its endless noise, and kneed it in the stomach. Once I let go, the creature slumped to the ground, tired and on death's door.
"You Rognarrs are a fascinating species, you have forced me to adapt in ways I never thought I would, create weapons so primitive and yet so useful, I may continue using them in the future."
"Now, my old friend, I stand over you victorious and will put your whole body to use, alongside a few more specimens."
"Goodbye."
With that last word, I grabbed both sides of its head and snapped its neck, killing the creature, but unlike what movies and TV shows show you, that isn't a near instant death but rather a slow and painful process. No matter though, as I stared at the twitching creature, its last moments of life rapidly leaving its body, I grabbed its arm, studying it and seeing that it was still in relatively good condition thought I could use the bone as a dagger.
I tucked it somewhere safe as the creature twitched one last time before dying. Leaning over, I grabbed my sword and knife, putting them back where they belonged, after wiping the blood off. I then grabbed the creature by the head and began dragging it back, leaving my bait for the variosu scavengers who, seeing a chance, jumped at it, devouring it all, snapping at one another as they all fought over how much they each got.
It was entertaining in its own way, seeing the various native lifeforms fight over it made me more and more interested in taking one of them as a pet, or a hunting dog. Mostly the Sobeks, seeing as they were the most dog-like, and when compared to the Rognarr, they were a bit faster and more pack-oriented than the Rognarr. Sure, Rognarrs were willing to work in groups, but that was more out of their feralness than anything.
I could also hear the faint roars of other Rognarr as they approached the little feeding frenzy, and it looks like I may gett lucky and have a few more parts to work with. Either way, I didn't have to worry about anything possibly bothering me for a while as I wrapped the body as best I could onto my back and began making long leaps back to my cave to begin the carving process.
Once I was there, I saw a few skitters niffing out front, and once they saw me with a Rognarr, that and my pissed off face, they began running immediately. Feeling a little snackish, I grabbed one by the neck and snapped its neck instantly, and brought it inside, leaving it by the carving table as I dumped the Rognarr corpse onto it and grabbed a few of my more 'specilized' tools, aka the medical tools I have since upgraded in anticipation of this very day.
I made a slow and precise incision across its chest, making a large hole in the corpse, ready for me to rip the organs and bones out. Well, at least in the chest cavity, and it was truly fascinating, the creature had some of the usual major organs, but alongside this were a few I didn't recognize that would warrant further study. Well, this creature wouldn't be the one I take with me, as I wanted a nearly undamaged specimen, and this was not it.
No, I would make use of its meat and bones, like a caveman would, unfortunately, but they would work for now. I first ripped the organs out and tossed them to the side, forming a small pile, and then came the bones, which I placed on the end of the table. I then got the pelvic bone out and moved on to the arms, which were a little harder to slice into, but I managed nonetheless and carefully got the arms out, and the hands as well.
I did the same with the legs and saw that one of the foot bones, or whatever it was called, was a bit damaged, unfortunately, but perhaps I could make use of it. I then slowly cut the head off and knowing that this bit might be a bit harder, as I didn't want to damage the bone like I did with the foot.
I first made several incisions into the skin, a bit on the thin side, but enough of a start to peel the skin off. I then lifted the skin a tiny bit and began peeling it back, hoping to make use of the makeshift leather later as I'm guessing the skin was extremmly durable. Don't think I have enough to cover myself with, but it should be useful, especially once I figure out what to use the bones for.
Once it was finally done, I was left with a couple of pieces of skin to use as rope and a nearly pristine Rognarr head. I admired the skull for a second, and while the teeth may be useful, perhaps for a knuckle-duster or something like that. The jawbone, however, may need some modifications. In fact, it could make a nice little battleaxe or something like that. I did want to keep the top half of it, though, and use it as a shoulder pad alongside another one once my next hunt began.
I do wonder if Nolan would recognize the creature's skull, the thing that proved to be stronger than it, adorning one of the Viltrumite's conquered races' armor. The shock he may feel or the terror of knowing that there was still something stronger than the savage beast he encountered so long ago, as I stood over him, various weapons in hand, made out of the bones of this planet's creatures.
Surrounded by a pack of vicious Sobek's each one ready to tear him limb from limb, and devour him, except his head, of course. I needed something to help me study a Viltrumite's DNA, although perhaps waiting for a full corpse would be better; no matter either way, I planned on tearing him apart and leaving nothing for him to come back from.
Either way, the next five to ten years would be a most interesting hunt.
