Invincible: Vilgax

Chapter 4: Necessary Improvements - Part 1

*Vilgax POV*

*Location: Berovia-8, Capital*

*Date: 5025th Rotation/1980 Earth Year*

I held onto the chair, trying my best to steer the ship towards a hopefully unpopulated area outside the city. The only problem was that this ship was the equivalent of a flying trashcan, one I could barely steer/control, with the best I could do being nudging it to the side. Once I saw that I was going to land in some...very odd-looking water, hopefully with it being shallow, I began pressing the buttons underneath the armchair as it revealed the mask/oxygen tanks.

I began strapping them on as my ship neared the water, and eventually I felt a sudden crash as I felt my body being launched forward, not having enough time to strap myself to the seat. I felt my conscience fading away as the ship's warning lights began beeping. Alongside this, I felt burns all over my body, and those...memories came flooding back.

So with a fury and determination I didn't know I had, I slapped myself, doing everything I could to force my body to stay awake. As I looked around, the ship was filled with red lights as the alarms went off, and I then saw some small fires breaking out, some being put out by the water leaking into the ship. I then saw the burns all over my body, my skin being charred, and pieces of metal piercing my body, as my black blood began pouring out, not like a faucet, but enough to be concerned about.

I began ripping apart the ship, as my exit was blocked and the emergency exit was currently submerged in water. Right now, though, I just needed to get out of the ship, but it was quickly filling up with water, and since I didn't know if this substance was healthy or even breathable in my more primitive form, getting out was my top priority.

Eventually, I was able to tear apart enough of the other hull that I was able to see daylight, alongside a whole crowd of this world's inhabitants pointing at me, taking pictures with triangle-shaped phones, I was guessing. I could then see several vehicles pulling up, as I'm guessing this species form of law enforcement or military noticed my ship in their atmosphere, and right now I was in no mood for a fight and was currently bleeding out.

Taking a few steps out of the water, the inhabitants began stepping back some out of fear, others because they were pushed back by humanoids dressed in black/green holding primitive-looking rifles, not plasma-based ones, but rather the ones you'd see on Earth, menaing this planet was probably around their level of advancement.

Either way, I wasn't able to get a good look at them as I fell to my knees, feeling my body and mind give out. With a bit of hope that this species wouldn't try to dissect me and would be open to helping me repair my ship in exchange for some advanced technology/blueprints.

I could see a few of those figures approaching my body as I drifted in and out of consciousness. I could feel metallic cuffs being put on me, and my body being dragged somewhere. Which was pretty much the last thing I remember as I blacked out completely soon enough, with only the mumbling of voices to reach me.

I didn't know how much time had passed by the time I woke up strapped to a table, with several small figures standing over me, wearing white suits/masks, each one holding a clipboard, writing down something. Looking around, I saw that the piece of metal embedded in me was on the side, and my body was now bandaged as well, with restraints to hold me down, with the reason being to have me not thrash around in case I woke up...cranky, I was guessing. That's when I heard them talking, and well, apparently, the Invincible universe had something done right.

"It appears the subject has woken up, but whether or not they are conscious remains to be seen. Can one of you, please, hand me the light alongside the key to his restraints should he prove not to be hostile."

The lead researcher, I'm guessing, approached my face and lifted my eyelids open, flashing a light at it, probably to see if I was truly awake or not. Well, to their credit, I was indeed good of them to check, but I think it was time to talk in a language I hadn't used in a very long time.

"Can you please remove the restraints? I would hate to be discourteous to my saviors and destroy their items."

To no one's surprise, they all freaked out and took a few steps back, surprised at the fact that I could understand them and they could understand me. I knew remembering how to speak English would be good for me, or maybe in some small way, I didn't want to forget my roots, where I came from, or for some other third reason, but right now it was useful and would help me communicate with the local populace.

Soon enough, the lead researcher approached my restraints and unlocked me, and as I struggled to get up, they helped me. I smiled, thankful for their kindness, and as I sat on the table, I got a good look at my body to see how damaged I was and how long it would take to heal, if it could anyway. I saw several bandages around my chest/stomach area and my arms/legs, as well as probably other burns from the crash.

"Where am I, and where is my ship?" I asked as I grabbed my head, still feeling a ringing sound in my ears.

"We-We are currently under our capital city until proper transportation could arrive, we believed you died in the crash originally, till now that was."

"Your ship is currently being studied and well...torn apart to see what makes it function." He then began to panic a bit, thinking I was displeased or something like that, as he waved his hands back and forth.

"We weren't trying to steal it or anything of the sort, we simply-"

I stopped him and held up my hand and let out a sigh, feeling a sudden burst of pain through my body.

"It is alright, my kind would've done something similar and has in the past, although the subjects in question were in fact deceased."

"However, if your leaders are interested, I am willing to share my knowledge on both cybernetics and the basics of interstellar travel if you so wish."

Hearing that the lead researcher calmed down and I think was a bit surprised, honestly speaking, it kinda reminded me of humans and the possible first encounters with extraterrestrial life they'd encounter, especially if it was just as advanced or more so than them. They'd probably have killed me or colonized my world if given the chance, same as most other species once they encountered a less evolved or technologically advanced lifeform, regardless of what you tell yourself, in fact, I didn't trust my own species when it came to that, sure we woudl tell ourselves we wouldn't but would we truly not.

Right now, they didn't know if more of my kind were out there, not knowing my current situation, nor my people, seeing as we were just conquered recently. So I would give them some knowledge, alongside some weapons, if a Viltrumite makes their appearance in this system/planet, and an escape pod if it doesn't work out for them. Either way, I could see the researchers exit the room, with the lead one being a bit more giddy than I'd thought they'd be based on our short interaction.

Well, it didn't matter as long as they were willing to help me repair my ship and make some...modifications for it, as I was planning on doing some of my own experiments.

On me.

That and I knew the perfect planet to test it all out, to improve myself until I reached the point a Viltrumite would no longer be a threat. Savage Planet and the Rognarrs, aka creatures that can tear through a Viltrumite and survive afterward. They would be the perfect test for my cybernetic improvements before moving on to magic, or trying to anyway, seeing how the Invincible universe never really covered things like that well, not beyond Earth anyway.

Either way, I hoped this planet's leaders accepted my offer.

*Timeskip: 5026th Rotation/1981*

"No, if you wire the part this way, the parts are going to overload and leave the subject damaged beyond repair." I said, leaning over a table as the lead scientist, whom I learned was Gerod

He nodded and readjusted the wiring, and sure it was difficult to actually modify the initial designs to fit the Gurtaions, which was this species' name for themselves. It took quite a bit to help them fully understand the engineering behind this, to help them modify it so that they could work their magic, alongside weapon systems as well so that they can hold them, seeing as how even if I was a mutant among my species, our weapons were still a bit bigger then their own.

Of course, he wasn't the only one I was teaching; I also had the rest of the scientists in this specific military institution to teach as well. They weren't fairing much better, I mean it was new technology for them and well, I was my first time teaching as well, but once they got the hang of the basics, which so far they did, soon enough they'd be able to modify it.

In fact, I think a year had passed by this point, which was impressive nonetheless; they were able to learn so much in so little time, even if it would take them a bit to fully master it. Alongside this, I was able to get my ship repaired/modified so that I could use it as a makeshift lab. Was it perfect or any better than my old ship? No, it wasn't, as we had to fudge it a little to make the modifications/repairs.

Would it work for the time being? It would do, and today was my final day on this planet. The ship itself resembled the one from the OG show, although far smaller, and it was one long ship instead of diverging at the front. Other than that, it looked remarkably similar to it and would be an excellent home for however long it takes to improve my body/self so that I drive off the Viltrumites, or if I were strong enough, kill them and take their body as a trophy!

I blinked, realizing that was the thought going through my head, not how to free my people, but towards revenge. However, if that was the motivation needed to take them down, so be it, and I smiled, staring at my ship as my students/friends stood to the side, ready to see me off as my teaching was finally over, and it was their time to take the next step. Stepping onboard, Gerod approached me and handed me a small trinket, a photo of us all, something we did in my second week here.

"I think if it's alright with you, sir, we'd like you to have something to remember us by and hopefully not forget us as you roam the stars."

I smiled and folded the photo, and held it in my hand as I smiled, looking at them all, as they gave me their version of a salute, which was crossing their arms across their chest. I returned the favor and smiled as I did so, taking one last look at their five eyes and brownish skin that reminded me of a spider, only without the extra arms and abdomen.

I would visit them again in the future, once this darkness in my heart was gone, once I could enjoy, truly enjoy being around them as they could sense. They knew I was hiding something even when I told them of the Viltrumites, the threat they posed to the various species in the galaxy. They asked how I knew, and I told them that I encountered them and left it at that.

That was my burden to bear, and I would one day tell them, but for now, I just wanted to get my own modifications started.

Did I know for a fact that this would calm my anger? No, I didn't, but damn would it probably feel good.
