Taking on the role of the commander of the Astra Militarum regiment was a decision Zhang Ge made after careful consideration.

It wasn't that he truly wanted to be a colonel, but rather that he needed a stopgap measure. Undoubtedly, building an Astra Militarum regiment from scratch was a good option. Generally, such projects, which require both significant time and resources, take years to implement due to the various power struggles involved.

Even with the increased efficiency during wartime, it would still take at least a month or two.

Seeing how quickly they agreed, how could Zhang Ge not know what they were thinking?

When the time came, they could impose strict standards on personnel and make some demands regarding equipment, easily dragging things out until the Chaos forces arrived.

Of course, before the Chaos forces arrived, the scouts would surely report the information. At that point, he would arrange for Olivia to handle some maintenance tasks, allowing him to lead a depleted regiment to the front lines under the guise of buying time, directly confronting the Chaos army.

The plan was set. He didn't believe that in a battle of this scale, he could possibly survive.

Zhang Ge gritted his teeth in frustration.

Next, the three parties also unified the procedures for entering the city.

Since none of them could persuade the others, the three of them decided to go ahead and hold a parade featuring the Warlord Titan, both to boost morale and to intimidate some of the forces within the city.

Thus, the broadcast that echoed throughout the city quickly disseminated the parade information. Under the mandatory administrative orders issued by both the spire nobles and the Mechanicus, factories, institutions, and even most workers and employees, except for essential personnel, were given half a day off to participate in the parade.

Indeed, the decision to hold this parade on the central main thoroughfare of the lower hive was made to intimidate, after all, who would be intimidated if it were held in the upper hive? Normally, there might be concerns about the parade revealing weaknesses, but now with a heavyweight contender, one can afford to be more brazen.

Even some of the top gang leaders from the underhive were allowed to be invited.

Such an unusual move naturally drew attention and even alarm from many quarters. We can understand that you're holding a parade because war is imminent, but what's the deal with the holiday?

And how did you manage to get involved with the noble Mechanicus? You two are usually at each other's throats in public, and now you're backstabbing at this critical moment?

Among those most uncomfortable is probably the Ecclesiarchy, which was originally the third major power.

The Ecclesiarchy's only armed force, the Sisters of Battle, has recently suffered significant losses. On one hand, the front lines have collapsed, and on the other, various forward churches have been attacked. Very few have returned alive. Without a large-scale armed presence, their voice has significantly diminished.

At this critical juncture, the nobility and the Mechanicus have joined forces, and the Ecclesiarchy is completely in the dark. What's going on?

Exactly.

Due to interference in the vox communication, wireless communication between the city and the outside is extremely difficult, typically only concentrated at various frontline military nodes. Therefore, under the efficiency of information transmission relying on foot travel, in fact, most forces within the city are still unaware of what has happened outside.

However, all dark clouds were dispelled during the parade.

That afternoon, the artificial light sources in the lower hive were raised to their maximum brightness. The originally dim and barely sufficient lighting suddenly became as bright as daylight, as if a small eternal sun had been thrown in.

Such intense light even caused temporary discomfort among the lower hive citizens who had crowded the sides of the road to watch. Some even took it as a divine miracle, beginning to more fervently breach the interception lines formed by the PDF and enforcers.

Soon, the parade began. The first to pass were not ground personnel, but countless flying skulls and servitors trailing bright red ribbons, floating through the sky, accompanied by a shower of vibrant petals.

Next, six formations of three aircraft each, composed of Valkyrie fighters and Stratosurge Raiders, streaked past at low altitude with sharp sonic booms. The petals, which had been slowly drifting, were either shredded or flung away by the violent air currents around these aircraft.

Clear trails deliberately showcasing power appeared in the sea of falling petals above, as if an eraser wielded by some great being had swept across.

Among the lower hive residents, who usually see nothing more than gang members as armed forces, bursts of cheers erupted. At this moment, under the gaze of the massive metal statue at the end of the road, whether they were workers in the ceramite factories or clerks of some family enterprise, all seemed to share in the grandeur of the entire Empire.

But this was just the beginning. Slow and massive ships were approaching from the starting point, each bearing vividly colored and powerfully designed banners, moving in pairs over the road.

Once the ships had reached their designated positions, these enormous banners were hung above, at a height that did not obstruct the view but was clearly visible with a mere glance upward.

A large number of personnel, equipped with grav-chutes, descended directly from the ship, leaping onto the rooftops of the buildings on both sides. They unfurled the banners of the Ernesto family and the crimson flags of the Mechanicus, draping them down the sides of the structures to create an atmosphere of visual impact.

At this moment, the leading ground forces came into view. They were an elite private force of the family, nominally the PDF, the First Regiment, First Company of the Yarkalan Planetary Defense Force, but commonly referred to as the "Hand of Ernesto."

They were all clad in heavy carapace armor, wielding hellguns. Though a thousand strong, their steps were as one. When the synchronized footsteps echoed past the underhive dwellers, it also erased the lingering fears of rumors about external enemies.

Following them were the Skitarii infantry, armed with galvanic rifles and clad in additional radiation-proof robes. This was the first time the armed forces of the Mechanicus appeared on a large scale in Yarkalan Hive. If the previous formation had minor flaws, the Skitarii formation was as precise as a matrix programmed by a computer.

Though the civilians were unfamiliar with these soldiers draped in red robes and fully encased in metal, they did not hesitate to offer cheers and applause.

Squads of PDF infantry, elite troops from various houses, and Mechanicus Skitarii passed by, followed by a vehicle formation composed of Leman Russ tanks and various walkers.

But the roaring engines of these massive machines failed to capture the attention of the crowd. Without exception, their gazes were drawn further back.

In the backlight cast by several servo-skulls, a colossal shadow descended, moving forward step by step. The rhythmic rumble, previously ignored as background noise, grew closer.

It was the sound of footsteps, mixed with a heart-stopping crunch.

This crunch was the sound of the rapid-drying construction materials shattering under the immense weight of the massive footfalls, each time they struck the ground.

The dust quickly rose with the lifting of the foot, scattering to both sides of the road, even forming long trails of smoke.

But the crowd on either side remained silent, no one caring, their gazes unanimously fixed on the giant moving between the posters.
