Chapter 29: The Whereabouts of the Mother and Daughter_2
These money seemed like a key, opening the door to the core of power. Politicians were eager to declare their willingness to "uphold justice" and oppose the dark forces in White Beach Town.
Of course, Zhou Qingfeng's name would not be mentioned in this process.

Kelly got off the helicopter and walk proudly towards Zhou Qingfeng, her cold face showing a touch of pride, "Victor, happy? I told you, I'd do anything for you."
Zhou Qingfeng did indeed feel grateful towards Kelly and embraced his dedicated maid. If it weren't for her decisive action in securing the chief lawyer of the lottery committee, things wouldn't have turned around so quickly.
However, Deputy Director Shult, who came along with Kelly, was very displeased, especially seeing the intimate hug between the two, feeling as if he had swallowed a fly.
"Alright, young man, hand over the suspect and the case to us, you can leave with the FBI's helicopter," the Deputy Director just wanted Zhou Qingfeng to disappear from his sight quickly.
"Wait...," Zhou Qingfeng didn't recognize the Deputy Director and refused, "Kongges' wife and daughter haven't been found yet, they were taken by someone or an organization called 'Funeral Bell'."
Regarding the torture on Director Matthew, the National Guard who came to assist initially tried to stop it, and the lieutenant in charge even reprimanded Kongges for his lack of humanity.
But after overhearing Director Matthew's confession of his crimes, the lieutenant immediately cast aside all sympathy, wishing he could pour a few cups of water on Matthew's head himself.
Even with the arrival of the FBI Deputy Director, Zhou Qingfeng didn't avoid anything and after briefly describing the situation, hoped that the Deputy Director could find a way to rescue them.
"Julia and Selena are in a different situation than regular illegal immigrants, if they can't be found within seventy-two hours, they might never be found."
Zhou Qingfeng was very anxious, but Deputy Director Shult was not, loosening his collar slowly and replying in a cold and formulaic manner:
"Victor, thank you for the information, we will start the investigation as soon as possible. For safety reasons, you should leave." For a better reading experience, visit M(VLEMPYR).
The Deputy Director waved his hand dismissively and walked away as if shooing away a beggar.
Kelly approached Zhou Qingfeng and whispered, "This is Deputy Director Shult from the Miami Branch."
Where had he heard this name before?
Zhou Qingfeng quickly recalled and immediately realized that the person who tried to kill Carl and frame him was this righteous-looking guy in front of him.
A burst of nameless anger surged up within him.
He further thought, to rescue Julia and her daughter, he couldn't rely on this two-faced Deputy Director, he had to do it himself.
"Kelly, have you heard of someone or an organization called 'Funeral Bell'?" Zhou Qingfeng first asked his 'maid'.
Kelly shook her head, indicating that she wasn't familiar with the situation in the underworld, but would ask 'Gray Shark', who specialized in underground brokerage, if necessary.
Zhou Qingfeng immediately called 'Gray Shark'...
"I've heard of it, but I've never had any dealings with them," 'Gray Shark' said 'Funeral Bell' was both a person and an organization, "This guy is too ruthless, even in the underworld no one likes him."
There's a hierarchy even among 'gray businesses', not based on who is more righteous or ruthless, but on whether they can bring in profits.
"'Funeral Bell' likes to work alone, and is very aggressive. He believes 'secrecy is safety', and sees anyone who probes into his background as an enemy.
I can ask around for you, but don't get your hopes up. People in this line of work are very cautious."
Even 'Gray Shark' knew very little about 'Funeral Bell', which made Zhou Qingfeng feel a heavy weight on his heart.
Julia and her daughter were tricked by Elvin three days ago and stayed in Director Matthew's hands for less than twenty-four hours before being packed onto a truck with another batch of illegal immigrants and handed over to 'Funeral Bell'.
The two sides didn't meet during the transaction, and even after enduring waterboarding, Matthew couldn't say where the mother and daughter had been taken to.
Zhou Qingfeng was very anxious, perspiration beading on his forehead.
At this moment, Old Hammer strolled over slowly, holding a steaming cup of coffee, looking relaxed.
"Why not ask me?" The old man took a sip of coffee, casually suggesting.
Zhou Qingfeng looked up sharply, a glimmer of hope in his eyes, "You know 'Funeral Bell'?"
"No," Hammer shook his head, his greying hair moving gently with the motion. He pulled out a cellphone from his pocket, flicked his fingers across the screen, and found a number.
"Then who are you going to ask?" Zhou Qingfeng inquired.
"A friend from the Department of Homeland Security," Hammer said as he was already dialing.
The phone rang a few times before it was answered.
On the other end, a raspy voice came through, sounding exasperated, "Hammer, don't tell me you snuck out of the nursing home again."
"You guessed it," Hammer replied, as if chatting with an old friend, "Can you do me a favor? There's a guy named 'Funeral Bell' over here in Miami.
Tell me about this guy's background. Don't say you don't know. Illegal immigration is the Department of Homeland Security's concern, I believe your database has information."
The voice on the other end shot up several octaves, "Hammer, do you know you have dementia? Meddling like this could get you killed.
And I manage a highly classified database, you can't keep asking me these questions every time."
But Hammer remained unhurried, "I'd rather die outside than wait for death in that hellish nursing home.
This time it's not about illegal immigrants, it's about an innocent mother and daughter being kidnapped, someone has to uphold justice, right?"
There was a few seconds' silence on the other end, followed by a sigh, "Give me two minutes, I'll see what I can find."
