Invasion of the United States

Chapter 29: The Whereabouts of the Mother and Daughter

Midnight.

Dim lights flickered, as if countless ghosts were dancing on the walls. The basement air was filled with the mixed stench of rust and mold.

Director Matthew was chained to a chair in his own basement, water dripping from his slackened jaw, soaking his shirt and sticking to his skin, revealing his trembling flesh.

When the seventh bucket of ice water was poured over his head, he could hear himself making a dying, suffocated whimpering sound in his throat.

The towel covering his mouth and nose blocked the air, and every breath he took brought more water into his respiratory tract, causing violent struggles.

It felt like countless cold hands were desperately tearing at him, dragging him into an endless dark abyss.

Every time Director Matthew's breathing weakened, the towel on his face would be lifted, the chair set upright, allowing him to see his surroundings again and catch a breath.

Right in front of him, his old mother, his wife, his son, his entire family was there, wailing and suffering along with him.

"Talk... I'll tell you everything, just stop pouring water. Spare my family," Matthew's voice was hoarse and broken, his words mixed with blood spurting from his lungs.

Kongges clenched his fists, his eyes wide with fury as he roared, "You want me to spare your family, why didn't you spare mine?"

If it weren't for Zhou Qingfeng holding him back, he would have bashed the director's head into a sieve.

The waterboarding continued, and Director Matthew had long lost his former dignity and composure, confessing since the beginning of the torture. But the punishment never ceased, requiring repeated verification.

"I was just a transit for human trafficking, Julia and Selena have already been sent away, taken over by a guy named 'Funeral Bell.' He's the biggest human trafficker in Florida.

Ordinary illegal immigrants would be sent to various farms for low-wage work. If there were women of good quality and beauty, they would be kept for high-priced auctions after being transferred.

But I had no direct contact with 'Funeral Bell.' I just parked the truck loaded with people by the roadside. 'Funeral Bell' would naturally send someone to drive it away and transfer money to my virtual account."

Illegal immigration in the United States was actually an openly acknowledged social scourge, but the authorities were not enthusiastic about cracking down on related crimes, even indulging it.

In the human trade, the police could not expect criminal gangs to follow rules. Drug trafficking, smuggling, and even kidnapping young, beautiful women were all profitable ventures.

Kongges himself had handled many such cases and deeply understood the cruelty and ruthlessness involved.

Missing young women would be transferred and sold like livestock.

Few victims could be successfully rescued, most suffering and then disappearing into endless darkness.

Even if the victims were found, they often appeared only as corpses. Families could only leave the crime-ridden town with tears and despair, their hearts forever leaving unhealable scars.

Kongges never thought his wife and daughter would encounter such a fate, his rage turning him feral, his frenzied roars echoing in the basement.

Zhou Qingfeng couldn't control the nearly two-meter-tall giant, so he gave him a dose of sedatives, letting him sleep for a while, quiet for ten minutes. Еnjоy thе stоry by rеаding оn М|V|LЕ%МРYR.

Director Matthew no longer held any hope of survival, shaking his head, he said, "I knew this day would come sooner or later. Kill me. You can't save that mother and daughter, let it all end."

Old Hammer's voice came through the walkie-talkie, "Victor, the FBI is here, come out quickly. You've done all you can, leave the rest to the professionals."

Zhou Qingfeng turned around, slowly walked out of the basement, leaving the director's house.

Outside, it was brightly lit, more than a dozen fully armed soldiers guarded the area, with a National Guard lieutenant on site commanding.

A helicopter with FBI markings slowly descended, its rotor blades stirring up debris on the ground, making people turn their heads to avoid it.

As soon as the helicopter landed, Kelly, dressed in black, jumped out first, followed by the stern-faced Deputy Director Schulte of the Miami Branch and several of his agents.

Money is truly a wonderful thing, especially in a world where power and wealth are intertwined.

When 1.5 billion US Dollars surged into the account like a flood, Zhou Qingfeng's status seemed to be lifted by an invisible force, instantly skyrocketing to an awe-inspiring height.

With money, Old Beck moved quickly, not only finding the District Attorney but also using phone calls and network connections to rapidly contact over a dozen key figures in Florida's legal and political circles.

Among these people, some were powerful state senators, some were old judges deeply rooted in the judicial system, and others were politicians with significant influence at the federal level.

Old Beck wove an invisible web of connections, preventing Zhou Qingfeng from experiencing the embarrassing situation of 'bringing a pig's head to the wrong temple.'

With backing, efficiency in handling matters was completely different.

The District Attorney swiftly decided to personally intervene in the corruption case in White Beach Town, and the State Attorney General promptly reported the situation to the governor.

Law and order in White Beach Town had completely deteriorated. The police chief openly committed crimes, colluding with corrupt officers, and even persecuted righteous inspectors.

Chief Inspector Carl of the FBI was shot and seriously injured during in-depth investigations, and his partner was even killed by the criminal gunman. Police and FBI alone could no longer control the situation.

Thus, the governor declared an 'emergency state' in White Beach Town, deploying two platoons of the National Guard, dispersed throughout the town to maintain order.

Behind all this, Old Beck had legally provided over a million dollars in political donations to more than a dozen politicians.
