Chapter 494 - Staying Back at Marahuyo (Part 4)
The next morning, a few hours after day break, I woke up to a still soundly sleeping Vaelion in my arms. I slowly slid his head off of my arms and made my way to the shower to freshen up. I quietly went down as usual to the kitchen to prepare some late breakfast for the people that will come rushing to my house in a bit.
It was the same drill, us four having breakfast together. This time at least, Vaelion took a shower and changed his clothes though it still show a lot of the marks of what's left of what we done the night before. When he came down for breakfast, his face was flushed and he avoided the eyes of the two other guys at the dining table. He did look at me but he could keep eye contact before blushing even more. He must be remembering the naughty things we did last night.
The breakfast was quiet and filling. There was no weird looks given to each other like the breakfast yesterday when Makisig was the man who was with me. After the breakfast, everybody even helped out with cleaning the table and washing the dishes. I wanted to use magic to make it quick but they insisted on helping out since I have been feeding them well for the past two days. I chuckled and just let them be while I check on Vaelion and the babies since even though I was gentle, I did tire him out last night.
After checking out Vaelion for a bit, it seems that it was only fatigue that some good food and rest could fix. The four of us talked for quite some time, catching up on how they have been doing in the sanctuary as well as bits and pieces on how daily life in here was while the population was increasing. My husbands shared how excited they were in their upcoming move to the new place I prepared just for them.
After a few hours of fun talking with my husbands, I got a knock at the front door from one of the elders. It seems that the elders from the beast men have come to consult me with something important. Marius also came forward to ask me something as well. He is technically as good as an elder since he is the only one of his race in the sanctuary as of the moment.
My three husbands decided to accompany me to the meeting hall and listen in on whatever the elders wanted to consult with me. A formal invitation would mean that it is indeed something important. We already met before but they did not mention it so it has to be something they decided after meeting with me yesterday for some reason.
Upon arriving at the meeting hall, I saw that it was filled with the elders and some members of their races. There were no women or children present, just male adults that are mature enough to understand what we were about to talk about. Marius was the first one to talk. It was brief and his questions is simply when am I planning to accompany him to Cyreneia. It was indeed a promise I made a way back that I have not made good of yet so I told him that we would go within the next 2 weeks before I new semester starts since there was one week of vacation in between semesters anyway.
Marius did not ask anything else and simply told me he would wait for the day of our departure. The elders of the different beast man tribes spoke one by one but from how the way they were discussing things, it all comes down to one point. It was about that damned word again. It was about the existence of a "vessel" for their race.
Based from what they are saying, if I wanted to prove that I was treating each race the same way, why am I not choosing a "vessel" from the beast man race as well. Well, that point complicates things. I chose not to answer as each elder made their point and complained straight to my face that I was being unfair. I smiled through it all while my three husbands are starting to look angry for my behalf but just like me, they did not say anything.
After the nonstop blabbering of the elders in the meeting hall, they finally ran out of things to say after almost an hour. They might have realized that I have only ever listened and I have not said anything since the meeting started. Now, they finally gave me a chance to talk and the first thing I did was to smirk. My three husbands looked between me and the group of elders nervously and repeatedly as if they were hoping with everything they have that no argument will ensue. Vaelion looked the most nervous since we had a bit of a fight due to this word just last night.
After breathing in one time deeply and then breathing out abruptly, the first thing I said was after an hour was this: "I don't take in vessels if you haven't noticed. What I have are husbands that are willing to be with me. Why are we even talking about this right now? Am I not treating all of your tribe members the same? Are they not getting the same benefits in terms of clothing, food, shelter and protection just the same?"
My cold and emotionless tone of voice made the room pin drop silent. The elders kept looking at each other as if they were trying to tell the others to speak and answer my questions. It was just that no one was brave enough to come forward and contradict my points. It was funny in a way that they were saying so much for the past hour but none would even answer me.
It was Makisig who broke the silence first as he scoffed and said, "Why do I feel insulted all of a sudden? I made sure to ask everyone what they needed and made sure they got it as soon as I can. I am running around this place with this heavy belly of mine just to make sure that everything is working well in this place. Now, you are telling me that you feel like you were being treated unfairly? If you have so many issues about staying here, you can all leave. You are not prisoners here."
Reiss, who was the feistiest of the three chuckled a bit and then answered Makisig instead as if they are in a little skit of their own. He added, "Of course, they won't leave. They have no where else to go to. Where can you get all these things for free and the place is where your kind that were hunting you down can't reach you? One step outside and they are done for you know."
As for Vaelion, he slowly walked towards me and stood next to me. He did not speak but he placed his left hand on my right shoulder as if telling me to calm down. He then looked coldly at each of the elders who are now quiet as if they did not exist in the meeting hall. I heard him breathe in deeply then he finally spoke addressing the elders, "If you don't like how things are being done here, pack your bags and leave. Go back to where you came from. It would be less work for the three of us when there are less people anyways."
Marius was staying silent in one corner looking at the argument that was brewing in the room. After several awkwardly silent minutes, he clicked his tongue and stood up. He then looked at me and said, "I don't have any complaints about how things are being done here. I am not included in this issue. I am going home." After that, he walked out of the meeting hall and really made his way towards the direction of his house by the river.
Vaelion's presence calmed me down quite a lot but I still chose to speak in a cold tone to get my point across. This time, I addressed the other younger men standing behind the elders and asked, "How about the people at the back, do you share the same thinking as the elders with you today? Any complaints? You are free to leave this place anytime if you don't like the way we run things you know?"
The men who were from the herbivore clans were quite meek and they simply shook their heads, signifying that they do not have any complaints or questions. The few omnivores simply answered, "I wish to stay here. I have no complaints." much to the disappointment and angry looks that their elders are sending their way. The carnivores on the other hand have a few braver ones that spoke up. Some of them seem to look rather familiar to me.
