Chapter 284 - A Budding Rivalry
After discussing my plans for stealing or rather, rescuing (whichever is applicable) people from Ceryneia with Marius, I destroyed his slave certificate right in front of his eyes to show my sincerity about being his partner in crime instead of being his master. I prefer having loyal subordinates over having slaves that only say yes to everything I say and would not give me proper advise or insights on things. He may have a soul mark but that is just to keep his mouth shut about secrets, it doesn't function on making him follow whatever I say unconditionally.
I can't think of any place safer than Marahuyo to bring Marius to since he is a mystique. I won't stop him from working in Sklavryet if he wanted to though. I told him that the mark I place at the back of his hand was like a pass for him to be able to enter and exit the sanctuary's barrier anytime he needs to. I explained the summarized rules of my territory too for his reference. Once everything was discussed and all his questions have been answered, I teleported the both of us back to Marahuyo.
We reappeared smack in the middle of the plaza at the center of the territory. I stiffened out of the blue which earned a confused look from Marius. I smiled at him to assure him that I just remembered something important. Well, it isn't important to him but I just remembered that there would be incoming trouble if I bring an unmarried guy randomly in the sanctuary without giving a heads up to my husbands. If I may be specific, three pregnant and moody husbands that get jealous easily.
I ignored this fact for now since there is nothing much I can do about it since me and Marius have already arrived here. I started giving him a tour of the community kitchen, the town hall and other places around the territory. I told him that he is free to choose a plot of land where he can build his home with a hint that we actually have a river within our area. He looked at me thankfully while giving me a sweet smile and a look of appreciation.
The smile he gave me brightened his face a lot that if I have not been in this world for several months and have not been numbed by the high quality looks of the men in this world, I would have fallen in love with him at first sight. This same smile was the first thing that my three moody husbands saw as they arrived from the direction behind me. I then heard an exaggerated cough coming from behind me which was obviously to get my attention.
As I turned around to face the people that just arrived, I saw Vaelion and Reiss who opted to stay quiet but their eyes have seemingly sent a barrage of angry questions towards me. I saw them look at Marius and I can see annoyance from their eyes this time. Makisig on the other hand, gave me a smile that says that he is going to deal with me in a bit and I will have no choice but to answer all his questions or else I am dead. He still greeted me and my companion formally accompanied by a polite nod of his head.
Makisig introduced himself as well as Reiss and Vaelion as my husbands and also the ones who are leading and managing the affairs inside the sanctuary. They did this while caressing their protruded bellies as if boasting that they are soon-to-be fathers through my doing as well. Marius smiled sweetly at them and introduced himself politely too. To be exact, his idea of polite is only sharing his name and his race. I wanted to laugh out loud since he is definitely not one to be bullied!
This interaction should have ended with the greeting and a short introduction but for some unknown reason, sparks seem to be flying between these four and the tension just kept rising. Nobody was talking but the three pregnant men did not even hide their glares towards Marius while this guy just kept eye contact with them nonchalantly. It was as if the cold war started but to make matters worse, Marius smirked and scoffed which simply irritated the three even more.
I looked at how Marius was taunting the three and realized why I find him so funny. He has a similar aura and haughtiness as Kayden. Just as I was about to smile when I realized their similarity, Marius just had to escalate things by giving a taunting look at the three men then his eyes trailed towards each of their pregnant bellies. He smirked and looked down on his own flat stomach then towards me. His short wordless action was clearly telling them that, "If she can get you pregnant, she can get me pregnant too."
I sighed and though to myself, "I thought my human husbands were already competitive but these mystique husbands of mine just beat them in all aspects. They are even ganging up on someone that isn't even my lover at all."
Makisig's smile vanished from his face then he looked at me with widened eyes. He then signaled me to leave with him through his eyes. I called one of the passersby and gave instructions to bring Marius to the town hall so he can be assisted further in choosing his plot of land where he will be building his home. Marius, making sure that he won this silent battle, looked at me longingly and then whispered, "Please see me before you leave" using a flirtatious tone. The next thing I know, I was being dragged away from the scene.
I exhaled another heavy sigh as I grabbed the three pregnant men who were despite of their heavy bellies were almost running away from Marius while dragging me with them. I then teleported the four of us directly inside the living room of my home at the northernmost part of the sanctuary. I heard a loud gasp as they were surprised in the sudden shift in the surroundings. I let go of my hold of them and sat calmly on one of the seats then waved my hand to fill the low table with with food and beverages that they loved.
When the three men realized that we are in the safety of my mansion, their faces visibly relaxed and they carefully sat on the empty seats near me. They took a glass each of the cold juice I have prepared and calmed their breaths. After a few minutes, Vaelion was the one that asked a question, "Did you go to Ceryneia to pick up that fish?"
I couldn't help but laugh out loud at the unusual question and how he called Marius a "fish". It took me a few minutes to stop myself from laughing while the three had confused expressions on their face. I coughed a bit and then answered while holding my stomach that has started hurting, "Before I answer that question, I think I have to clear up something between us. Knowing the full story is better than just answering your question with a Yes or a No, right?"
The three nodded their heads in understanding. I started first with discussing about a promise that I made to someone (Richard) about finding his brethren and his brothers from a fallen kingdom. I used this as a precedence for explaining why I frequented auction houses, slave trade halls and red light district areas that have a higher chance of selling prisoners of war. Lastly, I explained how I met Marius accidentally on an auction house visit where I saved three people from the said fallen kingdom. I told them that since I have also started planning on taking in willing beast men to live in the sanctuary, I couldn't leave Marius behind in the auction house and bought him.
The three looked at each other and I saw relief in their eyes. I hate to burst their bubble but I eventually revealed that after dealing with the issue in Lyartaim, I plan to visit Zanahavre, Aeterdumnox and Ceryneia in the next couple of months. Though I know it will make them worry, I also reminded them that one of my missions as the queen of Eieneos is to ensure that the races will not go extinct. It was indirectly telling them that eventually, I will have children with other races as well and even might have new lovers or even new husbands too.
I saw the sadness in their eyes at the sudden reality check that I gave them. They all assured me that though they were jealous, they understand my responsibilities and the things that I had to do to fulfill them. They ended the topic with reminding me that merfolks have the ability to seduce and manipulate minds of others. Coupled with the gorgeous appearance and beautiful voice, they are dangerous threats to any woman and they have a sick hobby of stealing other people's wives for fun. Together, they advised me not to be tricked and for me not to abandon them for that "coquettish fish".
I spent the next hour soothing my three husbands jealousy and answering all of their questions as honestly as I can. With the increasing number of men directly and indirectly connected to me, I would eventually have to call a huge meeting for all of them to meet each other, both mystique and non-mystique as well as the only deity guy OR MAYBE NOT! I might have to plan that meeting carefully since though it is necessary, it totally spells trouble.
