Chapter 13: Chapter 13!Injuried
Hearing Jill's cry for help, Shen Ye looked up, his heart tightened, and he raised his loaded shotgun, firing several shots at the Tyrant.
Bang bang bang…
The unprepared Tyrant stumbled from the hits, then swayed, standing still. Jill seized the opportunity, shrinking her body and ducking under the Tyrant's crotch.
Though the move wasn't graceful, she had no other choice to save her life.
After rolling several times on the ground, Jill finally stood up and ran towards Shen Ye without stopping.
The Tyrant behind her quickly recovered. Certain properties of the virus allowed its body to adapt to injuries. Jill hadn't run far when it caught up to her, raising its strong right arm high and smashing it down fiercely.
With a loud boom, the entire room vibrated violently, and a large amount of dust filled the air. A deep pit appeared where the Tyrant had struck, but Jill was nowhere to be seen in the crater.
At the critical moment, Shen Ye once again saved Jill. Before the Tyrant's fist could smash down, he unhesitatingly lunged forward, embraced Jill, and rolled aside, preventing Jill from becoming a sandwich again.
Quickly scrambling to his feet, Shen Ye carried Jill and ran out of the laboratory. Jill shouted from his shoulder, "Wait, Barry is still inside."
Shen Ye acted as if he hadn't heard, but Jill slapped his back hard, forcing him to reluctantly stop, set her down, and raise his gun to shoot at the Tyrant.
What followed was a long chase. The Tyrant, without a health bar or plot mechanisms, was simply not something ordinary weapons could deal with. Their shooting was merely a futile release of frustration.
But gradually, under this high-intensity consumption, their ammunition dwindled, especially rifle rounds, as their shotgun shells were used up even faster and had long since run out.
In fact, Shen Ye still had many loose rifle rounds in his backpack, but the Tyrant wouldn't give them time to reload, rendering them useless.
As Jill threw her last magazine to Shen Ye, she shouted, "Shen, we need to find a way!"
Shen Ye loaded the magazine, fired a few shots at the Tyrant, and then said, "I have a way: we can discuss with it whether we can have a halftime break."
"That's a great idea! Why don't you go ask it?" Jill threw away her empty rifle, drew her Samurai Edge sidearm, and continued shooting, but the effect was far worse than the rifle.
Shen Ye looked at the Tyrant, which had taken hundreds of shots and still seemed perfectly fine, and shook his head, "Clearly, it doesn't need a break. It's too strong."
After speaking, he fiercely pulled the trigger a few more times, then heard the click of the firing pin striking empty inside the gun.
The last rifle magazine was empty. Shen Ye reluctantly tossed aside the rifle and drew his Glock pistol, which was fitted with an extended magazine.
But if rifle rounds could barely cause effective damage to the Tyrant, let alone a pistol, their situation became increasingly perilous. The Tyrant got closer and closer, several times swinging its fists and claws right in their faces.
And something even worse happened: the prolonged chase had severely depleted their stamina, especially Jill's. This woman, who would be considered strong even among men, was now panting for breath.
Soon, Jill, severely lacking in stamina, made a mistake. Perhaps her legs gave out, or perhaps she couldn't catch her breath, but she was a step too slow and was caught by the Tyrant.
The tall Jill was clutched in the Tyrant's hand like a chick, unable to break free no matter how much she struggled.
However, the Tyrant didn't immediately crush her bones; instead, it lifted her high, letting out a defiant roar towards Shen Ye.
The Tyrant, possessing some intelligence, saw itself as a hunter, and now it was showing off to its next prey.
Shen Ye guessed what it wanted to express, and he stopped shooting. Jill was still in its hand, and firing would risk injuring her.
"Damn it… I feel like I'm playing Resident Evil 5!"
A strange thought surfaced in Shen Ye's mind, then he shook his head, put away his pistol, drew his triangular military dagger, and charged forward.
Shen Ye's risky move made Jill scream in alarm, "Shen Ye, don't do that!"
Shen Ye had no time to mind her. He darted into the Tyrant's embrace like an agile monkey, then fiercely plunged the triangular military dagger into the Tyrant's exposed heart.
With a squelch, the triangular military dagger sank in, almost half the blade embedding itself. Then, thanks to the blood groove on the blade, a large amount of air rushed in, allowing him to effortlessly pull the dagger out again.
The moment he pulled out the dagger, a large amount of blood spurted from the wound in the Tyrant's heart. The bleeding was so profuse that even the heart's beating speed slowed by a beat.
However, this blow still didn't critically wound the Tyrant; instead, it enraged it. This easily uncontrollable bio-weapon roared, threw Jill from its hand, and backhanded Shen Ye, who had no time to dodge.
Shen Ye felt as if he had been hit by a speeding truck, flying directly through the air, spinning several times before crashing hard into a pile of equipment.
Fortunately, Shen Ye didn't die, but he was still gasping in pain. He struggled to sit up, then felt a sweetness in his throat and coughed up a mouthful of blood.
Shen Ye looked at the blood on the ground and saw that it was mixed with several small pieces of flesh. He suspected his internal organs had been crushed.
But the will to survive still made him get up from the ground, but he hadn't walked two steps before he lay back down again. His stamina was rapidly draining, and his strength was being sucked dry like water.
On the other side, Jill, who had escaped, noticed Shen Ye's condition. She wanted to go check on him but was blocked by the Tyrant. She could only continue firing, trying to attract the Tyrant's attention.
But the out-of-control Tyrant ignored her completely, walking step by step only towards Shen Ye.
Seeing the Tyrant about to reach Shen Ye, Jill steeled herself, drew her police bayonet, and charged forward with a shout, intending to use the same method Shen Ye had used to save her to save him.
But she hadn't run far when she suddenly heard a familiar male voice behind her.
"Jill, get out of the way."
Hearing the voice, Jill instinctively turned around and saw a person standing at the laboratory entrance. It was her teammate, Chris, and he was holding a grenade launcher.
Without time to think, Jill leaped to the side, and then Chris pulled the trigger.
With a dull thud, the grenade was propelled out by the barrel pressure, accurately hitting the Tyrant.
With a loud boom, the grenade exploded on the Tyrant's body, and the energy it generated directly blew a large hole in it, sending a large amount of blood and shattered flesh flying everywhere.
No matter what, the Tyrant was still a flesh-and-blood creature. Even if it could withstand small-caliber bullets, it still couldn't block a grenade attack.
The injured Tyrant knelt on the ground. Jill took the opportunity to run to Shen Ye's side, picked him up, and ran.
