Chapter 607: The approaching storm
As soon as Rain equipped Tame, he decided to test the technique… he started trying to Tame ants, and much to his surprise, just looking at them while thinking of the technique was enough to make them stop and look at him. Rain's wives frowned when they saw him looking at ants all of a sudden… it was rare for them to see Rain that bored.
In the end, Rain called them in order to let them see the ants doing a breakdance. Words couldn't describe the look on their faces. Regardless, Rain explained what he was doing.
"The technique didn't gain even one point of experience in taming ants… I should have known," Rain shrugged.

There were plenty of animals around that Rain could use, but he wondered if he could control the skeletons and the golems… it seemed worthy a try. When Rain tried that, it actually worked… but keeping the creatures under control was consuming more mana over time. When Rain used that on regular animals, that didn't happen.
"I guess the system treats even monsters like animals… what about humans?" Rain rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
Rain recalled Artisia's technique… it was similar to that, but unfortunately, Rain couldn't test that because he was too respected. If he talked with anyone, he would convince them to do what he wanted, and it would be impossible to tell if the skill was working or not. Even if he gains experience, it will be troublesome if some rumors spread around thanks to it, bad rumors.
"This might not be so bad," Rain thought as he watched some skeletons that he had tamed facing against others.
The skill Tame received 200 experience points.
The skill Tame received 200 experience points.
The skill Tame leveled up.
…
The cost of the mana being used over time decreased, and the same thing happened when Rain increased his dexterity. At that rate, maybe he can have an army of monsters that can obey his will with a minimal amount of mana as a price.
"This new path truly opened new… paths for me," Rain thought. "I can't even begin to imagine what the next skills will do."
Although he was using Mana inside the dungeon and he didn't want that, Rain decided to spend some time to gain experience using that skill and the path as well. He couldn't imagine that being a waste of time…
Still, that was something that would benefit him a lot, but Rain had to put to good use the knowledge that he obtained from Isa since that would increase the overall power of his troops.
In any case, it didn't seem like Rain would have much time for that… as soon as he returned home, he found his wives with some papers in their hands. Considering their expressions, Rain thought that someone sent him a love letter, but he decided not to say that out loud.
"What is wrong?" Rain asked.
"The guys at the border sent us some reports, they are feeling a lot of tremors there, it started three days ago and it seemed that it was getting more frequent," Terra said.
"It is on the magic people's side… Do you think that the dragons are back?" Seara asked.
Rain was already used to the fact that whenever he was making some serious progress, something had to happen to halt it, but he didn't think that they were the cause of it this time around…
"The magic people and the beast people have been quiet for long… it could be a trap to lure us in," Rain rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Geo is only watching the beast people side, and while they can be a problem in a fight, the magic people are more resourceful."
"They lost ten thousand people in the last battle… do you think that they are ready for more?" Terra asked. "They also lost a lot in the last two decades… they must have gone insane."
"Shouldn't we talk with Artisia again and see where we could find more refugees?" Seara asked. "They should have more people dissatisfied with those Politics."
That was possible… but in the end, they were only helping the other side avoid annihilation. The people that they rescued the last time lost all interest in fighting. They thought that they would become slaves, but they were living peacefully working on the farms… adding that to the fact that the enemies this time could be their former allies, they didn't have many seasons to do so.
They probably could help if the beast people tried to attack since they would lose the fruits of their hard work.
"We will just tell them to keep their guard up," Rain said after thinking for a short while. "They know how to find us if they are interested in that, it will be hard to miss them if they don't want to join the war."
With their successful completion of training for over two thousand new troops and another three thousand actively working throughout the kingdom, Rain felt that they had made a lot of progress. It seemed like a substantial force, and he believed it would be enough to meet any potential threats for now.
However, Rain was about to discover that their adversaries were equally dedicated and determined, if not more so.
Rain's initial assumption that their enemies couldn't possibly work harder was proven completely wrong as they soon as they heard of the news… the storm was approaching once again with full force after the calm
