Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 1405: Possibilities

"What do you expect?" Elisabetha asked. "The power of the aspects is being used by the machine gods and the overseer; they aren't beings of flesh and bones like you."

"I suppose so…" Rain said while he was healing his nose.

The bleeding was taking its time to close for some reason, even though Rain's healing skills were top shelf. He could only think that the reason for that was the overflow of information and Experience that he got thanks to analyzing those weapons… he should not overuse any of those.

The matter was pretty serious… because he essentially got damaged by absorbing data, even though his regeneration speed was also off the charts. The process wasn't natural, but...

"Sakaki wants to talk to you," Elisabetha said. "Don't worry, I didn't alert your wives."

"It would have been better if you hadn't alerted him either," Rain said and then teleported Sakaki to the area.

"It seems that you did something pretty recklessly," Sakaki said and then shocked Rain with his magic to analyze his body. "You are fine. You recovered from much worse, after all. Still, thanks to your well trained body, this kind of strain in moderation isn't a real problem. I think others wouldn't be so lucky."

"Nosebleed, headaches… he probably should slow down when it comes to using the aspects paths," Elisabetha said. "The spirit aspect didn't show any side effects, but who knows when it will happen? We can't discard the possibility that it might even affect his spirit, and how can we check that?"

Rain hadn't noticed anything off with his spirit lately, but that kind of thing would be truly hard to notice. In any case, while using the paths would be a bit more efficient to level up, leveling them up with mana was also possible. As one would expect, that cost a ton of mana, but at least it didn't have any annoying side effects.

The path of information leveled up.

Lvl 5: Object Analysis - Analyzes objects at a molecular level, discerning their composition, properties, and potential uses through data-driven analysis. Cost: 500 mana

Lvl 10: Data Encryption - Encrypts and secures sensitive information, safeguarding it from unauthorized access and manipulation through sophisticated cryptographic techniques. Cost: 1000 mana

Lvl 15: Information Extraction - Extracts pertinent data from complex sources of all types, distilling relevant information from vast datasets or encrypted data. Cost: 1500 mana.

"I guess Information Extraction will help me get rid of useless information… that should unburden my brain quite a bit," Rain thought.

"You never learn, do you?" Elisabetha asked.

"Rain, you might be a bit busy, but you also should check things with Elisabetha a bit," Sakaki said. "Her presence changed a lot in the last few days thanks to the essence of the dragon gods."

"... Come to think of it, she is the only one there in my mental landscape, huh?" Rain thought. "I didn't have any reason to go there recently."

Rain decided to check things with Elisabetha. After using the ominous sword for so long, it made sense that she would have gotten a bit better… but she got much worse. While furrowing his eyebrows, Rain studied the new form of Elisabetha… she still had that dark shadow covering everything of her body aside from her eyes, but now her aura behind her was taking the shape of a dark four legged beast.

It looked ominous as fuck…

"You didn't act any differently, so I didn't think that you would change… but I guess when your anger takes over again, things will get pretty nasty," Rain said. "I feel pretty good, though."

"I am sure a lion also feels good while ripping apart its prey," Rain said. "Obtaining the power to crush the only type of Enemy that you are interested in certainly would have improved your feelings."

Rain was a bit worried now… his job in the next mission would be to gather data, but will Elisabetha and her anger let him? Moreover, would things be fine if she kept letting her aura evolve like that?

"I have my own things to worry about, so I will leave this to you," Sakaki said.

In the end, Rain spent several days thinking of what he should do, but nothing came to his mind… and the approach of the mission decreased his free time even more. Elisabetha didn't seem worried, though. So maybe he was just thinking too much about it…

"Considering the location of the target, what are the chances of one of the machine gods intervening?" Sealyn asked.

"According to Sakaki, the weapon stored there is a bow, just like Victor. Her ability with long-ranged attacks was surreal, and she also developed some skills related to the moon and night since she took the role of Artemis in their cringy group," Rain said. "She was much better at fighting at night, and the circles of the moon made her stronger at full moon and new moon."

"But… is there a moon in that area?" Sealyn asked.

"The closest planet has 120 of them," Rain said.

"While Artemis was often associated with the moon in Greek mythology, she was not specifically considered the goddess of the moon. However, her brother Apollo was associated with the sun, and Artemis's realm included aspects of the night and the wilderness, which encompassed lunar associations.

So while she was not exclusively the goddess of the moon, her domain did overlap with lunar symbolism and cycles," Sakaki added. "Her power increased up to five hundred percent in those nights, so it seems that the machine gods are either studying that or making use of it. As for what kind of enemy would find that worth studying… it would be Rain, the machine god of information.

The machine god of spirituality also could be involved, though."

"If they are involved, we need to get rid of them before they can use their full power…" Sealyn said. "Any ideas of how we can do that now?"
